Best coffee in corpus! I was new to town when I walked in this establishment, very unaware that it was cash only. The owner welcomed me to the city, told me to enjoy my free coffee and pastry and made me promise to come back again soon. I’ve been a loyal customer for over a year and I always tip. :)

Anyone who knows me can find me here. GREAT fresh coffee, mochas, Italian sodas, FRESH home made muffins(if you are early enough you can get them when they’re still warm) sandwiches and much more. Great and friendly staff with a relaxing atmosphere.

This is where my boyfriend and I get our coffee fix, we buy fresh roasted whole beans every week to make our mornings coffee. This is the best place to buy whole coffee beans in Corpus, if you are a true coffee drinker.

The coffee here is my favorite. I’m not sure what it is about this place, but every time I get a cup from here it tastes amazing! The little snacks to purchase are usually good, but I took a star away because it’s cash only. We all know that’s not convenient at times, and the ATM inside doesn’t always work; but when it does, the fee to use it is pretty high which is a turn off. Otherwise, I like the live music on the weekends. The inside could use a bit more updating as well.

Great little place. Love that they make everything from the muffins to the whipped cream and roast their own coffee. Warm, friendly staff. Good selection of drinks that you can customize. A local gem!

Drink local. The fact that it’s connected to Half Price Books is fantastic! Affordable pricing with excellent customer service. You can’t beat that! Cookies are homemade, coffee beans fresh, table area always so clean and welcoming! I could go on and on, but this is my go to on a Friday night, Tuesday night, any night of the week!

This place is seriously a diamond in the rough of coffee houses. My friend and I just needed our quick coffee fix for the night and decided to stop by at a café we’d never tried before. Upon entering the café, you just get this lived-in, effortless, carefree and light vibe from the café. The cashiers were really nice and efficient. I ordered a Large Americano with an extra shot and a little bit of room for cream and sugar. She gladly gave me the extra shot and even whipped out the half and half for me, which I really appreciated. My friend got some kind of blended iced coffee with whipped cream and chocolate chips. The people studying at that café seemed to be at ease and looked like regulars, not exactly distracted by any outside customers or live performers. Apparently on Saturdays they have live performances, and there was this one man who brought out his guitar and mic and started off his set playing a smooth and romantic Ed Sheeran«Thinking Out Loud» song. He was pretty good ! Overall, I loved this place. The Americano was really good, probably some of the best I’ve ever had. I believe it’s right next to Half Priced Books, which is convenient bc you can lounge around and look for books while getting your coffee. Pretty mod place, I have to say. Will def be going there again.

I eventually found this place after my GPS took me on a loop-de-loop looking for it. Anyway, when I walked in, the woman at the counter(one of the owners?) seemed friendly enough. I expected more food options so I was mildly disappointed. However I did get a piece of blueberry cheesecake. When I saw they had Vietnamese iced coffee, I ordered that immediately. I also saw a drink dispenser full of «Mocha Sorbetto» that sounded so good and that I wish I had tried, because I keep thinking about«what could have been.» Haha. The Vietnamese coffee was strong and sooo tasty. I loved it. The cheesecake was«ok.» I expected it to be better. The best part was the crust, which almost tasted carmelly like burnt sugar. Overall… A-OK as Unilocal says.

Yes. They have good coffee. However, their menu has changed very little except for the semi-new addition of desserts. Cakes are kept in the cooler which can give them a weird texture and the cookies/dried out brownies are not something to write home about. The sandwiches(ham/cheese and chicken salad) are fairly decent if you’re in a pinch. The Italian Sodas are sadly not very good either. There is on off putting aftertaste which I believe comes from the use of Club Soda. My thought on this would be to use a simple sparkling mineral water giving it a cleaner taste and letting the peach or raspberry syrup to shine. One good thing is the price of a bottle of water.

Best coffee in Corpus hands down! The staff is super sweet and friendly. Making for an great experience every visit. I get all my coffee beans here. They are freshly roasted every week making for delicious bright flavors. They also have great specialty coffees and desserts! Just got the malawi mzuzu beans, they are smooth with chocolaty notes, making my mornings that much better :)

Great little coffee house, I really loved the mocha I had here. It had yummy whipped cream and little chocolate chips. We sat at a table for awhile and chatted, though if I had to take away marks for anything it’s that there isn’t much ambience. However, I liked my mocha enough that I won’t deduct. Calypso is cash/check only, but they have an ATM onsite. Prices are coffee-house typical(aka not cheap). I’d write more, but I only had a coffee. I’ll try a dessert next time I’m in Corpus and report back.

The owner roasts the beans himself. You won’t find better coffee in Corpus Christi. The owner’s wife bakes all the amazing goodies herself from scratch. There is no comparison. The quiche is outstanding. Service is always good. The only thing this place lacks is coffeehouse ambiance. But everything else more than makes up for that. And they do have free wi-fi but you better have your device charged because they don’t have outlets.

I pretty much fall asleep during long car rides so the drive from San Antonio to Corpus Christi was no exception. Stopped by this place last minue and decided to grab their Vietnamese coffee. Oh wow! It was cold, yummy and strong! I downed it right after I got out the door. Soon after I found myself hyper and WIDE awake! My boyfriend was shocked that I stayed awake through the rest of the day. When I got back to San Antonio spent time Unilocaling somewhere to have Vietnamese coffee… sadly the closest shop would be 55 miles away. Man. Now I want coffee… Thank you guys for the awesome drinks!

The vanilla latte was just alright. I felt rushed when ordering and the menu is huge. I may had ventured out, but it felt like I was an inconvenience to the staff. The tea was from a bag. The cups were not served with sleeves and the drinks were really hot. Plus, you had to put a lid on them youself. Getting a drink was dangerous. Plus its cash only. What a bummer. I had a cookie that tasted like it was premade but cooked in the store. I was expecting more. I know its connected to a used book store, but it could be so much better.

After all the browsing I did at the bookstore and my large purchase of books I needed some coffee and dessert. I walked over from the bookstore which was super convienant. They also allow books from the bookstore there. Anyway, I got a Breve coffee(no idea what the coffee of the day was) with a splash of hazelnut syrup. For dessert I tried the German Chocolate cake. The coffee and dessert were both very good I had no complaints drinkable and edible. As for the selections on the menu for drinks there was a nice variety so I wil go back to try others out. The dessert were def interesting I am not adventerous when it comes to cakes and muffins etc. They had a pineapple yada yada cake that looks super most and nice icing but to fruity and citrusy for my liking. If you are more of a safe person they had the typical brownie. Sitting was limited maybe 8 tables there may have been more ranging from 4 sitters to two seaters. It was a typical small coffee house people drinking and reading. I will go back and try more items and given an update.

I came across this place while exploring CC and looking for a bookstore. It’s located right next door to Half Price Books. The café is large and bright, the coffee selections are plentiful. I had a café mocha along with a chicken salad on a bagel and some tomato basil soup. Everything was tasty, although I wish I had tried the Vietnamese coffee. The staff were very friendly. I was looking for a place to do some work, and was able to fenagle a plug along the side wall. The only thing it is lacking is wi-fi. Would’ve been 5 stars if it had wi-fi. Updated: I tried the Vietnamese coffee. I’m a bit of a snoot when it comes to Vietnamese coffee, but Café Calypso did a good job. A bit steep at $ 4 but then again, the usual $ 2.50 I pay in Houston is usually filled to the brim with ice. Definitely hit the spot. 4.5 stars.

STORYTIME! My senior year of high school, I decided to take a friend of mine to Café Calypso before school started to kick off her birthday bright and early. We went and chatted for a while over coffee and their delicious, amazing, oh-my-god-don’t-tell-anyone-but-I-just-ate-some-heaven muffins. After we had breakfast and coffee and maybe a cookie or two for later, the tab crossed $ 10. I said, «Happy Birthday!» and I slid my credit card over the counter. Calypso regulars will feel my pain. CASHONLY. I panicked. How could I make my friend pay for her own birthday breakfast?! But the day was saved, as the owner smiled and said, «We’re cash only, but you can come back later.» Are you kidding me? I was not a regular by any means, so I still have no idea what possessed him to trust me at the risk of losing out on something like $ 15 worth of product. It’s nice to know that there’s still a business out there that values its customers so much. You have a fan for life, Café Calypso.(Yes, I went back and paid.) All that aside, I’ve NEVER been displeased by any of their coffee, but I confess I’m not an aficionado. However, Café Calypso has THEBEST Italian sodas… anywhere. It’s the one place I can go and not have to say«half the syrup» or «extra syrup» or «no cream, no cream, I see you’re adding cream, really, please, no cream.»
