Decided to try something a little off the beaten path between Dallas and Houston and detoured through downtown Corsicana for dinner. We stopped at the Fiesta Grill for some Mexican cuisine. The atmosphere was a mix of Tejas barrio and Fiesta Mart with linoleum on the floor, vinyl table cloths and enough Mexican style art to be an inch shy of campy. We ordered chicken strips for the kids, which while overly generous in portion size, were priced that way as well. In addition the chicken tenders were overcooked and dry. Obviously not made in restaurant. My wife had a margarita which she shrugged off as being satisfactory, and tortilla soup, which she said was excellent. We also ordered guacamole, which while incredibly fresh wasn’t seasoned beyond a hint of cilantro. No garlic, onion, or tomato, much less lime. I ordered the Monterey Pollo, a chicken breast grilled in a butter and garlic sauce, covered with sauteed onions and peppers. I didn’t think there was quite enough cheese, but the flavor was good. The rice was excellent.

We ate here while on a road trip, after not noticing in the search that the Across the Street Diner was closed.(This place is around the corner from the diner.) The service was exceptional from the host at the door to wait staff & helpers. Everyone had a smile & was most courteous & attentive without being intrusive. Have never been served quicker — you would have thought we’d called in our order ahead of time. We’re chips & salsa aficionados & both were good. We’re also iced tea snobs & the tea was fresh & excellent. I had the«Special Nachos,» ordered without beans. The order was served correctly & was just the right amount for lunch. My husband had brisket tacos made with chopped beef brisket, served with pico de gallo, rice, & charro beans. They were so moist the server brought extra napkins. All-in-all, a 5 star lunch!
