Colour Bar

I had a bought a Groupon for a blow dry at The Colour Bar and unfortunately was unable to find a mutually good time to book it before it expired. I finally was able to get a blow dry this weekend and wanted to apply the amount I paid for the Groupon towards the service (which is Groupon’s policy). The owner was rude about it and went off a long tangent about how Groupon is putting salons out of business (as is Airbnb) and his rant went on for an awkwardly long time. Long story short, he didn’t let me apply it because he said he wouldn’t make any money if he let everyone (like me) come in on the weekend and try to use their Groupons. (The owner is the one who has to agree to work with Groupon in the first place!!) I felt like this was tacky, bad business and that the entire experience was overpriced for what I got. My blow out was fine but nothing amazing and the services at local blow dry bars are better and a bit less expensive.

The worst experience of my life! Called to schedule an appointment for a blow out and the girl put me down for the wrong date. She proceeded to charge my card for a 30.00 deposit… That’s fine! I arrived 5 minutes late and sat for 20 min waiting! My hair looks terrible… She said it will be 50.00??? I said no it’s 40.00 and you charged my card 30.00 so I owe you 10.00! I was nice and left the girl a 8.00 tip.
48.00 dollars later… My hair looks terrible, I’m upset, late and I have to drive home and fix this mess!!!
This place knows nothing about blow outs nor styling. Never Ever Again!!!

I would never go anywhere else for color. I like a natural but bright red and that’s difficult to find. I have had my hair colored by many of the colorists at the bar and they have all been fantastic. No fumes at all and the color lasts as long as a regular semi-​permanent.

I had been looking for another Organic, not tested on animals hair place for awhile and thought I would try the Colour Bar. I was nervous about what my hair would end up looking like as I didn’t know anything about this place. It was so great. Jaimie listened to what I wanted and mixed the most beautiful color. Each day I would look at the color and just marvel. I really never felt this way about any other place or colorist before. Wasn’t expecting it to be so good. I went back and had Tony the owner cut my hair. Haven’t had it cut for over 10 years because I just didn’t know what to do with it and have hard time trusting someone isn’t going to do something I don’t like. He did a great job, looks lovely and the blow out was really nice. I am very happy. Organic, natural, no toxins and no animal suffering, relaxing place, nice people — If anyone tells you organic doesn’t work or doesn’t last it is a lie. Wonderful to not feel that awful tingling on the scalp after going to regular hair coloring place with all their toxic products.
The nice thing is once they figure out your color, anyone is able to help you so you don’t have to wait long if you are ready to get a touch up.

Tried it a few times because I liked the idea. I could never get my hair styled right and always walked out trying to convince myself it looked good.

Wonderful staff, friendly and humorous, and finally a place to get products that have no odor and no chemicals! Safe, reliable and my hair is recovering well from products from other high end salons. If you are looking for a chemical-​free alternative for hair smoothing, coloring etc, this is the place! My HS aged daughter also loved her new hair style from here and they have introduced us to great products to use to protect and repair the damage from being a swimmer! So come and meet Tony, Jamie, Krista and Heather; I think you will love your new hair! Try the Keragreen rather than the Keratin with chemicals.

Tony turned dry, gray, straw-​like hair into spun gold … So nice to leave a salon and not be dripping hair toxins!
The products are amazing; as is the service.
I highly recommend this place to anyone using the cheap, ineffective home hair color.

I purchased the Colour Bar 3 blow outs through Groupon and then called for a Sunday appointment as the coupon is good for new clients and Sunday –Thursday’s only. The man seemed reluctant to schedule one for me as that day was typical for working women he said. (Note I happen to be one). He said he’d call me if a Sunday «opened» up. He never called me. I called a month later and I was able to book 3 Sunday appointments back to back in June. I went this past Sunday for the 1^st appointment and the salon was closed. No heads up of any kind. So I left a message asking what happened and if the rest of the remaining appointments are now null and no call back after 2 days. *update. Got a call back after this review with an apology and offer to make right. I won’t be going back, but also understand that mistakes happen. I’ve updated the rating as a result.

Great service, great blow out, nice salon with large windows. Colour bar offers all hair services, from cuts to colors to blow outs. What is really unique is the color dye they use is organic. A different concept and safe choice.
I had the blow out service and Tony was very informational with the services the salon provides. During the blow out he also gave me tips and tricks on how to better blow dry my hair. I left the salon with smooth shiny hair and my hair didn’t have to suffer to get that.

Tony Cox, the owner of Colour –Bar has been cutting my hair for nearly 20 years. I found him because of an article in the Bön Air Shopping Center flyer which said he was an expert on curly hair — and he is that, an expert. He is a fantastic stylist, colorist, stays on top of products and knows what works and doesn’t work on my hair. And besides, he is a heartfelt and sincere man. He is a friend. I have recommended many folks to Tony & Colour-​Bar and none have been disappointed. I never am.

I love Tony and everyone at Colour Bar. I found the salon after reading a very favorable article about Tony in Marin magazine. And when I read that he uses only organic hair color and products I was hooked. I’ve stayed with Tony for the last two years because of his great service and pleasant salon. He knows exactly what my hair needs in terms of cut and color and how to make it turn out soft, manageable and stylish. And, I definitely don’t miss the terrible smell and the stinging scalp of my old hair color! Also, when Tony is busy and I am in need of something right away, I call on Jamie, Jessica and Adriana to work their magic. All of the stylists are extremely knowledgeable, talented and caring and they truly work together as a team. I will never trust my hair to anyone else!

I have been with Tony for a while now and it was hard to go from my very best friend who owns a successful salon in the South Bay to an unknown in the North Bay. I was very critical for about 6 months until I found Tony. He is masterful in his cut and color. I have watched these one star Unilocal come and go and if Tony doesn’t make them look prettier than they can be, they seem to give him a bad rap on Unilocal.If you want a hair cut and color that goes with your face and lifestyle then go to Tony. If you want a hairdresser to make you magically appear a movie star… don’t waste Tony’s time and patience… he is far to creative and genius to make pig look good with just lipstick

I have been going to Colour Bar and Tony for years. I have consistently received great service and feel like I am visiting friends when I am there. I love the hot tea they serve and everyone who works there is friendly and helpful.
I like to change my style frequently and let Tony decide how he wants to color and cut my hair so that I get a different look each time. He is very creative and I receive consistent compliments on my hair which keeps me coming back. The color looks very natural and I like that they use organic products. I highly recommend Colour Bar!

Giving this salon three starts just because I got a great blowout by Jaime (?) my first time there about a month ago. I went in today for a haircut and I told her and gave my stylist Jessica pictures of what I wanted. I really liked the cut she gave me but when it came time for my blow dry all she did was put a texturizing hairspray ALL OVER my hair. I thought that was just a pre blow dry thing she did. But all se did was tousle my hair around with the blow dry. She never once touched a brush to my hair while blow drying. I left the salon having paid $ 93, for a service that I was not happy with at all. My hair was extremely hard and crunchy from the spray she put on it.
I ended up going to a different hair salon just to make myself feel more confident. I got exactly what I wanted at this salon, a straight blowout. And my stylist even fixed my ends by thinning them out, which I asked Jessica for but she did not do.
Overall I was not happy to have paid $ 93 for only ²⁄₃ of the service.

I had the KaraGreen treatment done by the fabulous Jamie! I have super thick curly hair and I straighten it everyday. I have had so many straightening and smoothing treatments done and by far the KaraGreen is my new favorite! It makes your hair so silky and shiny without the harsh chemicals. 4 weeks later and my hair still looks and feels amazing. A huge thanks to the Colour Bar and Jamie! I’ll be back soon!

If you want your hair to look like you’re an old man from Palm Springs who colors his hair with a drug store product, then this is the place for you! And I’m a woman who expects better when going to a salon that specializes in coloring hair.
After a color treatment at Colour Bar my hair now is monochromatic, dull and the wrong color for my complexion. It was supposed to be semi-​permanent, but nothing I’ve used to wash it out is working.
I spent $ 250 at a salon in the city to have a balayague color treatment to give my hair highlights and life. This will remediate the mess that Colour Bar created.

This is a review for the KeraGreen service, which is, so far, 2 weeks and 2 washes later, still FABULOUS! Salt water, sun and just unfortunate genetics put me in the fine, curly perpetually destroyed hair population. Every few years, I’ve ventured out to try whatever was purportedly the «newest» best solution, only to find some issue that prevented a repeat .
On this foray, I found Colour Bar, and this treatment, and because I’m no newbie at this kind of thing, I can tell I’m hooked.
Supposedly it gets better every time you do it, so it’s good build up, which if true is something I am looking forward to.
Kudos to Colour Bar and everyone there, great service, forward thinking, and fun folks as well.

Wonderful experience meeting Tony after watching his interview on KPIX/​CBS TV featuring Colour Bar, the organic and clean salon. So glad I immediately made an appointment for my virgin scalp. I love the new color and hair do. Tony gave me a very modern and chic hair style– as is the atmosphere you will find in Colour Bar salon. First time ever I did not feel a tingling or chemical feeling after coloring. The other stylists too were gracious and made an effort to make you feel comfortable

I LOVE Tony! I started to come to Colour Bar as a blow-​out client because they ran a LivingSocial deal and have become a full fledge color client of Tony. During my first blow-​out he was so sweet and took the time to explain how their product line works and what was the best way for me to style my hair. I love that the products used to color and style hair are good for you are free of all the nasty chemicals most other products have.
Only negative is most of the other people in the salon. It feels like Tony and his salon manager, Jamie are the only two who truly care about the place and are cleaning or doing things to help out. If the ladies who work there do not have a client or are not told to do a specific thing, they are just sitting around on their phones or eating. Not professional or appropriate at all.
So, Tony and Jamie are the only two worth interacting with. Love them!!!
