First time there, as I was recommended by a friend and was very impressed with the place, even wanted to buy some bread so I was looking around this morning. Behind the counter there was this younger girl and this tall guy that looked like he was talking to her about something important. Soon enough I could hear him saying to her that he made a mistake by hiring an American and learned his lesson. I started recording the audio conversation on my phone. He also said that he will not hire anymore American employees, he was only going to hire Chinese employees and that Americans were going to ruin the store’s image. His name was Ryan. Personally, that is the rudest thing to say to someone. You made a «mistake» by hiring someone who could speak English?(because when I got to the counter it sounded as if he did not speak that well of English to begin with). She was trying to plead her case and she was also telling him that it was wrong to say that to her but he just kept cutting her off. I went up to the counter while she was still there and they stopped talking and Ryan rang me up for my items. As soon as I got home I put the Duke Bakery products in the trash. Why would I eat something from a place who is going to say«Americans ruin their image»? I hope that girl finds a better job and you all come to realize how awful your views are. How are you going to discriminate against Americans when your store is in AMERICA? Completely outraged by this and will be telling my friends from now on to STAYAWAYFROMTHISBAKERY. If anyone knows this girl send her my deepest apologies that I did not step in when I should have. She deserves an apology from that company.

First time here and unfortunately will probably be my last, even though the food is great. I parked in their 15 minute spot knowing I wouldn’t be long, just picking out some baked goods and lunch that I already ordered next door. As I was walking back to my car, a worker came out to tell me that the parking was only 15 minutes and that it didn’t matter that I had bought food from them. She went on to say her manager had called the towing company on me. This happened at 1:00pm. I looked at my receipt and it was 12:53pm. I spent maybe 5 minutes before my purchase. So 12 minutes total. Right after I went next door to pick up my lunch that I already ordered, which took one minute. Such a shame because the worker at the counter was extremely nice. Unlike the one who came out to chase me down and threaten me. Terrible customer service and way to make a first impression. Oh and this was on a Tuesday at lunch too so not busy at all!

A small, cute bakery with really interesting pastries. I got a strawberry one and a blueberry scone for my friend. I was worried the strawberry one would end up being hard as it sat out for a while in my car, but it was still very fluffy and soft. The service was very nice, making sure to greet us and wrapped my things separately because of my allergies.

Very cute little bakery, but the options are pretty limited and the prices higher than other Asian bakery chains. $ 3+ per item is a bit steep and everything was very similar. Really loved the service and the free chocolate bun with check in a nice touch. The pizza bread was ok, not a huge fan of sweet bread mixed with savory toppings, but both were fresh and soft. I hope they expand with more of a variety and I might come back and try more next time.

Once again, Duke Bakery came through with some delicious snacks-breads! Chocolate bun was top notch. They make a nice iced caramel macchiato too! POLITESTAFF!

Pros: Absolutely wonderful bread. Some unusual flavors. Cons: Bread in large portions. Carry out only, no seating. Parking lot is crowded. Uh oh. I’ve found a bakery, and their bread was heavenly. Super fresh, nice and fluffy, tears apart in long threads, indicating they’ve kneaded it forever. You could taste the yeast in it. I had the caramel bun and another with parmesan cheese. The caramel was nice, it was just tiny bit sweet from glaze and not the sugary mess most are. The parmesan had a nice, moderate cheesy tang, but I think the best thing about both the items was the freshness. There was even a sign that warning you not to cut or tear your bread until ready because the instant you do, the freshness clock starts ticking downward faster. Very interesting selection, with some unique flavors like truffle(limited time special). I shared the caramel bun at the office, and both of us had a sheepish look on our faces. We both knew what the other was thinking. «Oh, no! It tastes so good, we’re going to have to exercise über control or our wallets will be too thin and our figures will be too fat.» Duke Bakery is pretty much strictly a bakery meaning everything is take out, no seating. They do have a selection of coffees and some refrigerated cake/pastry desserts. Prices were moderate, from $ 3-$ 5 for huge servings. Parking is crowded, I had to drive through the parking lot twice.

How have I never heard about this bakery before!!! There’s apparently a ton of them all over the place. It’s a Taiwanese Japanese French bakery and the place is so cute! They have little shopping cart baskets and the décor is really nice. The breads are so big! I wish they were a bit smaller so that I’m not tempted to eat the whole thing in one sitting. They have a lot of flavors that range from sweet to neutral to salty. They also have special flavors that are limited. I love love love the texture and softness of the bread. It’s my favorite type– super soft and chewy.

This is definitely not a Japanese bakery, but I think it is nice. Instead of trays and tongs, they have miniature shopping carts with detachable baskets and tongs. The variety of offerings were somewhat limited(it is a small bakery), but I found a few items(including a free scone thanks to Unilocal check-in). I just tried a couple of different items and froze a loaf of Hokkaido Azuki Milk bread or some sort so that I can make French toast later. I will be back for more.

Duke bakery is the only bakery store in this plaza and seeing their cute Duke logo. I couldn’t help but swing in to check out their buns. What love about this store is that there are samples — so, you can try before committing to buying. Everything tasted light, delicious and crispy. I had to buy a few home! I highly recommend this bakery. Don’t forget to get their drinks too, especially their Matcha Machiato!!!

We popped in before a late lunch next door and the shelves were unsurprisingly sparse. However, they had plenty for us to sample and we ended up buying way too much bread, considering we’ve been trying to be as low-carb as possible.(Total fail.) Hubby picked out a round coconut one which he really enjoyed but I thought was too sweet, even though the label said it was«low sugar». Onion bread was ok, a little light and not enough substance to it. Strangely enough, their bread didn’t seem very Asian. So this onion bread was styled as some Italian or French thingamabob. We bought a chocolate loaf which was probably my favorite thing. It had a crust on the bottom that was like crush Oreo cookies and the loaf was studded with choco chips. Yum! Whole wheat toast was good too but a little pricey for what you get. We tried the raisin and walnut bread and liked it so we grabbed one. At the register one of the guys(who seemed more experienced) told the cashier oh that’s the cheese bread. Me: No? That is the raisin and walnut bread. The guy conceded, saying that sometimes he gets confused. Well, he was right — it was the cheese bread. And I think someone put the bread behind the wrong label. The cheese bread was ok… the cheese was stretchy like moz but tasted like blue cheese. The guys working there were nice though the one helping us at the register was a little clueless. He didn’t automatically offer the VIP card for us buying 3 items so I had to remind him. It was kind of odd. He had to count up our purchases and took the trouble to explain back to me «Ok so you bought 3 or more breads so you can get the VIP card.» Umm… ok, I knew that, that’s why I asked. He was polite nonetheless. Nice bread place but we hope to come back when they have more of a selection.

I came wondering in here since it was close to Halal Guys. There was a lot of samples put out which is great. You don’t see sampling in bread places. I recommend getting the Truffle bread and the Durian. They are very unique, can’t find them anywhere else(so far), and it was pretty good. Bad part is that they are super expensive. The Durian Bread was $ 5.00! Holy crap. The smell alone was very stinky and potent but the taste itself wasn’t strong. Truffle bread was very potent and good. Nothing else was worth mentioning.

I was in the plaza and came across this place after lunch. I figure I’d stop by and check it out, maybe even pick up some goodies for my family later. There wasn’t much of a selection to choose from and the pastries are a bit pricey compared to 85 Degrees Bakery. My favorites would probably have to be the tarts. They’re perfectly baked soft in the center and crunchy, but not too hard on the outside crust. The custard roll was pretty good as well! Check in for a free chocolate bun or scone. I got a scone and thought it tasted really good! Other than that, everything else was so-so for me.

Ah I miss Chinatown where you can get most of these pastries for close to a dollar. Tried their sweet custard pastry($ 1.70) and cinnamon bread($ 3.50). Loved the custard pastry. Plenty of filling inside. Good for a quick grab of pastry and coffee.

I like Duke Bakery more than 85C Bakery. Duke has a better taste and texture. Although the store is smaller and much less in variety, I still think Duke is better. They are currently offering 10% discount. One negative thing about here is that pastries and breads are all made from their Rowland Heights location and they’re brought to this store daily. Well I still think they’re fresh and taste great! Give them a try.

Just found out they are opening a new location in Costa Mesa couple days ago. So awesome! This is my favorite bakery in OC so far, I love all their breads with very healthy ingredients, especially the shredded pork bread and pineapple bread. Now I can go there after shopping at SCP, sooo convenient!!! PS. Grand opening is this Friday~ 2/26, can’t wait to visit!!!
