Sub-par sushi restaurant. The waitress I had as rude and angry despite me trying to be nice and cheerful. They didn’t serve me miso soup that came with my meal. I asked very kindly, if my meal came with miso soup(even though I knew it did) and the waitress just walked away and brought some back, slamming it in front of me. She never even said a word to me, or sorry, or I’ll gov get it, or anything. Ive never been treated so poorly for asking a question. My food was not fresh and one of the slices of sashimi was hard(yuck!) also my California roll had a giant hair on it. I didn’t even complain about anything or send it back. Most of the food was flavorless and bland. The service was terrible enough… But without good food, this restaurant is not worth it. There’s a lot of good sushi in the area. I suggest you go elsewhere.

Great place for take out. I recently came here and realized that I’ve actually been here years ago. I remember it was the same nice lady who I think owns the place. The place is a hole in the wall with limited seating, but the food is awesome. They have a variety of rolls and bento boxes. I got the spicy pork bento and the portions were insane. It came miso soup, rice, veggies, cali rolls, and tempura. So much good for about 10 bucks. If you want some place casual, quick, and reliable come here.

I ate here once before and really liked the food. But I came here today and was truly disappointed because the food was egregious. I ordered a spider roll and a spicy pork entrée«to go.» The spider roll was not flavorful, but it was still decent. The spicy pork was the huge disappointment, however. The spicy pork DIDNOT look like the picture! In the picture, you are given a ton of slices of pork. I had only about 7TINY pieces of pork and almost every piece had gristle on it. I felt like they served me the unwanted table scraps that you discard when you are trimming the fat off a piece of meat before cooking. In addition, the pork was not spicy even though it is advertised as spicy, it did not taste fresh, and the entrée was packaged to contain mostly filler vegetables(ya know, tons of shredded cabbage that is used as a garnish and tons of onions). This dish cost $ 8.50, but for $ 5-$ 8 you can get far better quality entrees from Flame Broiler. When I called the manager to complain, she said she would only give me a 50% refund for that entrée and wanted me to return it. I told her the entrée was so disgusting and substandard that I threw it away; but I should have told her that the real reasons for throwing it away were that I felt it wasn’t safe to eat and I didn’t want that contamination anywhere in my house. When I told her I thought I should get 100% of my money back, she insisted she could only give me 50% back when I returned the next time. Normally, I would have accepted the 50% refund, but in this instance I just couldn’t because I felt her 50% refund meant she only half believed me… and that felt more insulting. I guess she doesn’t follow the business practice that«the customer is always right.» So I told her that if that is all she could give me, then I wouldn’t be coming back. This place does have some good dishes. Unfortunately, it is hit or miss and after my experience today, I am not willing to invest the time nor money to patronize their establishment again.

I’ve been here a few times now and have been pleased every time. The rolls are great and chicken teriyaki bowl was great too. The first time we picked it up for the office, she threw in free salads for everyone. Good prices and the rolls were all ready quick enough to pick up during the short lunch break.

A little mom and pop shop with good quality food. Fair prices, good portions, friendly staff. The place looks like it can fill up fast. I take my lunch after 1PM and have got lucky both times. If you call it in your golden. Im still getting used to the menu, they have many options but each add some and take some so make sure your getting all you want. The lady that runs the front always seems happy and pleasant.

You get what you pay for. It’s fast, it’s cheap, and it’s also not worth it in my opinion. Fish is not fresh, service is whatever and the whole place just made me want to stand up and go. I had baked mussels and a rainbow roll. The mussels had some type of sand in them so it crunched every time I bit down. Also the rainbow roll I ordered was one of the saddest I’ve ever seen. I will go back however to give them another chance but my expectations are low. I would pass.

This is my second review of Maki Yaki. The best. Had lunch there today with coworkers and we all enjoyed our food. Clean and fast service. The best at this price point.

Close to my work so i regularly call in a to go order for myself and coworkers. They def cook to order. They have anti raw rolls like the baked salmon roll which i highly recommend. I always get the bristol roll and its fresh and filling. Its small and has about 5 tables, and an eating area outside as well, i like that they always leave their door open, the breeze is always nice while i wait for my to go order… if you know what i mean. Extra ginger? Too bad.

Came to eat by myself for a quick dinner. Ordered the California roll(which ame with a miso soup) and an order of salmon sushi, as well as a cold Asahi. The rolls and salmon looked great and the fish tasted very fresh. Thought the value at the price point was excellent. Restaurant itself was very clean. They had some top 40 jamming on the sound system as background music. I live close by and will definitely come back.

Food was ok & that’s about it. Maybe this place is better for take out. Had lunch there yesterday & it took 40 mins to get our cut roll. When we asked where our food was, the lady snapped at us & said«THISISNOTFASTFOOD». She was rude & unfriendly. She even charged us for ginger. Instead of relaxing at lunch we left more stressed & angry. I will NEVER go back.

I got beef udon, plain udon & a California roll for take-out. I was expecting the same as everywhere else. Was I ever wrong! Fresh veggies, Super-fresh beef with a really awesome taste and nice broth. The roll was also good. I definately got more than I expected. It seemed like a family resturaunt and the chefs I saw were all speaking Japanese. This is a good one. I am glad I found this place on Unilocal

Okay sushi, but worse is they charged for dining in. They didn’t even tell us we were getting charged. Got home and took the receipt out of my pocket and noticed it. I can’t trust sneaky people like this. Too bad I’m close by and they’re so convenient for me during lunch.

I get take out from here probably close to once a week. I typically always do the number 88 combo which is Shrimp Tempura Udon with a Crunch Roll. Basic, easy. The place is a little spot within a strip mall, always kept very clean on the inside. You can see through into the kitchen and watch your food being prepared, which also looks sparkling. The interior has a few tables but I would consider it more of a to-go spot or quick lunch, although each night I am there I do see one or two people sitting solo. I call ahead for my order and my food is always ready within about five minutes of me getting there; which I like because that way I know it was hot and fresh. The woman who always works the register and front area is super friendly. They separate all the aspects of the udon meal(tempura from udon, udon from broth) I really appreciate this as I’ve gone to other places that do not and everything gets soggy and not appetizing. Food is consistent and what keeps me going back.

A-OK is a good way to describe this place, thanks, Unilocal :) Nothing special, but I’ll give it 4 stars, because the owner is trying and putting a lot of thought into the place. A small place, perfect for getting quick lunch. You can sit down and order or you can order to go. Either way, the owner(lady at the register, I’m assuming she’s the owner) is pretty nice(and VERY skinny). I was happy with the quality of the food, but this isn’t the place to go to satisfy your sushi craving. I’ll post their most recent menu(July 31, 2013), so take a look at the pictures, what you see on the menu is exactly what you get. I like how the rolls are classified under fresh,(probably not the best name choice, since to me it implies that only that column is fresh fish, but what they meant is that the rolls under that category are different or mixed type of fish), tuna, salmon, and cooked. a very-well planned menu, you can see that she’s really trying and doing a good job of up-keeping the restaurant. You can see that she puts thought in what she does.

Service was awful. 30 min wait for my lunch. came out to be wrong order. I would not go this place for lunch unless I would waste my lunch time for just waiting.

I always drive by during my lunches as I frequent every place around this but them. Today, I went with my co-workers and we didn’t know what we wanted to eat but didn’t want what we’ve had a dozen times so we decided to give it a try. This location is TINY… I mean like MAXIMUM10 people total. The owner was a really nice lady and had a nice guy that waited on us. He was young and seemed to be her son. We ordered the following dishes: 01. Rainbow Roll — $ 8.95 — 3 Stars Tuna, Salmon, White Fish, Shrimp, Albacore & Avocado. — The sushi was fresh but didn’t have much taste to it. For fast food sushi, it was decent. Of course this isn’t what I would normally want to eat for sushi but for lunch, I was satisfied. 02. Spicy Pork Bento — $ 9.50 — 3 Stars Served with salad, 5 California Rolls, Steamed Rice, Mixed Tempura and Miso Soup. — The pork was NOT spicy at all. Don’t let the color scare you, it really isn’t spicy at all. I was not impress with this dish. 03. Bulgogi — $ 7.95 — 3 Stars Thinly sliced Beef served with Steamed Rice, Salad and Miso Soup. — Not the most tasty Bulgogi but it was filling. Maybe I wouldn’t come here on my lunch rotation but maybe every other month, it might make the quarterly rotation but not the weekly one. Just wasn’t exciting enough for us. PLUS — Great Service and clean place. PARKING — Really bad plaza to find parking. Come at noon and it might take awhile to find a spot. Just come a lil later and you’ll find parking.

Maki Yaki is somewhere in my lunch rotation because of convenience and the decent sushi. The menu consists of standard Americanized sushi rolls, bento boxes, sashimi, etc. They have fantastic combinations and I’m usually content with a $ 10-$ 15 combination of tempura, rice, salad, and nigiri. It definitely isn’t the best sushi I’ve ever had but it’s fresh and service is quick so those two factors keeps me coming back. That, and the fact that it doesn’t induce a severe food coma. The dining area is smaller than my living room. The atmosphere is non-existent and they’re usually showing the news or a baseball game on the flat screen. The sweet lady who runs the front of the house knows me by name(and I’m known as the girl in scrubs) so she’s very warm and welcoming. I would never want to come here for a date or a Saturday night dinner but it does the job when I’m working.
