The Outpost Kitchen is amazing! Exquisitely prepared food in a great atmosphere. It takes time to find it, but it is worth the adventure! Every detail was taken into consideration. One long communal table, with additional sealing along the wall. All foods are fresh sourced, non-GMO and prepared with love. We shared the Paleo lamb salad, with roasted tomatoes, fennel, broccoli and fingerlings over spinach. It simply could not have been better! We sat next to a delightful woman who had the Avocado Toast with an egg. She told us that it was the best breakfast she had ever had. Only open for breakfast and lunch.

Very hipster-ish. The food is top notch. Excellent flavor and presentation. Unique flavor combinations that mesh excellently together. The split pea avocado soup was so delish… without knowing what it was it was hard to indivudually distinguish the 2 flavor profiles but it worked together well. The baguette sandwich is perfectly toasted and very favorable. Will definitely come back again.

I literally saw this restaurant in my Westways magazine last night and determined that I would be eating there this morning and honestly that was an excellent way to start my day! This place is incredible!!! I was impressed with everything from the minute I walked in the door(and I would say from the minute I pulled up but the outside is completely non-descript), I was greeted from the counter, assisted with the questions I had regarding The Mongrul(chef’s special of they day), affirmed on my choice, and was thanked as I moved to my table. The décor is simple, clean and well done! The kitchen is exposed and you could see several chefs prepping food for the day… fresh food… real food! I have eaten paleo for over 4 years now and although some places«say» they get it, most miss the mark on ingredients and flavor… NOT Outpost Kitchen! Everything was wonderful… service, coffee(that makes or breaks a breakfast in my opinion) and the food was exceptional! I am a foodie and I loved every bite… portions were appropriate too! But don’t be in a hurry because making food fresh and having it taste as great as it does takes time! Enjoy conversation and relax a bit. I will be back often & can’t wait to get to know the owners and the staff better! Well done!

Does anyone else think the pics make the food look just okay? But don’t be deceived — this is tasty om noms. Because quality ingredients! Coffee is good. Flat white is not as good as the ones from Two Guns Espresso. Mostly because I can’t tell it’s a flat white. But they happened to have dark chocolate ganache that day and used it to make a mocha flat white! Moustache:chef ratio is high here. Signs of a quality hipster place. :P No beard nets though. The avocado toast with poached egg is amazing. In the back there’s a shelf/pantry filled with ingredients. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy about locally sourced shit. Loud but cool vibe.

I had a very nice brunch here and will definitely be coming back when I’m in this part of town again. I like the communal tables. I was slightly disappointed that they don’t serve bacon, but I gotta say that the sunny-side eggs are some of the most beautifully prepared that I’ve ever seen — kudos to the chef! 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.

I have been here twice for lunch. I had a Bahn Mi style sandwich the first time, the baguette was wonderful — crusty outside fluffy inside. The sandwich did not really seem like a Bahn Mi though, no spice like the pickled jalapeño I am used to, and the pickles were scarce. It was a good tasting sandwich regardless — just didn’t remind me of a Bahn Mi. The next time I came I had an Italian style sandwich, the meats were great, but the bread was over toasted and cut up the roof of my mouth. Again still tasty. I like the vibe of the place, very friendly, the service is very good. There is a Paleo Lamb dish that I have tried to order twice but they are always out. I actually think that is a good thing. They don’t order too much so everything that is served is fresh. I will keep going back, if the sandwiches were more consistent I would give 5 stars.

Everytime I come here, I walk out wondering why I don’t eat here everyday. Not your average breakfast spot. Ham and eggs aren’t on the menu. But the creations these chefs come up with are delicious, unique and EXTREMELYFLAVORFUL. It’s off the beaten path, but it’s worth it everytime I come in! Make sure to try the bangers(sausage), the Mongrel is chefs choice breakfast(always a favorite) and the aussie scramble is great. Don’t sleep on this place!

The ONLY thing wrong with this place– there could be more Gluten Free options.(Maybe just a bread option). This place is super cute, hip and delicious. LOVE the fact that they care about how they source their food. Super nice staff. Will definitely be back!

I love to go here for their avocado toast! You can add bacon and egg to it too. The inside is super clean and I like the communal bar/tables, plus the staff is great. My cousin loves the coffee, I like their teas and juices. You can even stock up on juice with their packaged ones. Basically I have nothing but good things to say, just that I wish they were open on Sunday :)

A hidden gem in Costa Mesa! Organic, non GMO farm raised food. Cosy and hip(the music is played via a vintage record player near the register!) The food is soooo good, they’ve only been open for less than a year so my fear is they will need to put tables and chairs in the parking lot. Give it a try, you’ll love it.

Tried this place out after a vegan friend of mine recommended it. We got there around 9am on December 29th and there were no other patrons at the time but within 30 minutes the place quickly started to fill. I was happy because there is apparently no heating system in this place and it was a frigid morning. So we bundled up and enjoyed various hot beverages in cute little paper cups with fun messages on them. I ordered the mango fried rice breakfast which was really good. A bit too sweet for me for breakfast but that was me not really thinking«mango=sweet» duh. But I didn’t leave one rice kernel in the bowl. We also tried the smoked salmon and poached eggs which did not disappoint And the Mongrel. I found it quite good although since it appears that this dish changes since its a «chefs choice» meal… this one had a spicy sauce drizzled on it which was too spicy for my friend(who doesn’t do spicy) but I liked it. The seating is high top tables with a community style approach. This never bothers me as I enjoy meeting and chatting with new people. I really like concept here and not having to think too hard about what I’m putting in my body since its a all high quality organic nonGMO farm fresh mostly gluten free menu. I will most definitely be returning here to try other menu items both breakfast and lunch!

Came here today with a friend it was the closet place to eat in the area that we were in. Very cool industrial feeling with a open kitchen that you can watch your food being made and prepped. We ordered a tropical muffin it was gluten free, the avocado toast with scrambled eggs with a broiled tomato and poached eggs with salmon it came with a small side of kale salad. The food was very good and flavorful. I enjoyed everything that we ordered. I think its very awesome that the food is organic, gmo free and no other junk just REAL good food. Its communal style seating with high bar chairs. Great space great food.

This was an unexpected place for good food. It’s easy to miss if you’re driving by. I ordered the salmon and poached eggs. Everything tasted fresh and healthy. The serving of salmon was generous compared to most places that serve smoked salmon with eggs. It came with a portion of kale salad which had a nice lemon-y dressing. They have their own hot sauce which wasn’t very spicy at all, but was kind of sour to me. Ambience: had a lot more space that I expected. Expect to share a table with strangers or sit at the bar. It is not a good place to read or get any work done. It can get loud if there are a lot of people eating. Would definitely come back to try some other dishes.

****A New«Spin» on Brunch in the OC!**** 4.5 Stars! An unassuming store front leads the way to a culinary experience that must be had. Open the door and a cashier spins records while taking orders. There is a small menu with five or so breakfast and five or so lunch choices. Portion sizes are small. However, these guys aren’t just spinning records… but spinning artistic creations with fresh ingredients and new styles of taste. ~Aussie Scramble-5 Stars! Prosciutto, Prosciutto, Prosciutto! Prosciutto is an Italian style cured ham that is served as very thin slices. Here it was paired with flavorful moist scrambled eggs, baked sweet tomato and a bed of fresh uncooked spinach. The dish was amazing but the portion size was lacking. Two servings would be a more appropriate portion. I was starving and felt as though I was merely teased with a small appetizer. ~Orange Walnut Muffin-5 Stars! The guy told me that it was gluten free. Who cares? I told him I didn’t care what was in it. I would eat this no matter what ingredients it had. It was a delicious treat that went well with the tiny Americano. ~Service-5 Stars! Everyone here was super nice and courteous and we had a very classy experience. They treat customers like they want their business and especially want return business. ~Overall, Almost a Perfect Experience Appetizer size portions had my little one and me wishing we had ordered more. A little«something» is missing to give that satisfied feeling for hunger. However, nothing… nothing is missing from taste! Outpost Kitchen in the outback part of Costa Mesa… another reason the OC is the best place to live!

Enjoyed the avo toast with poached eggs. Roasted tomato is delicious by all accounts. A bit on the pricey side but flavorful, fresh amd healthy. 4 barrels coffee is legit. Staff is friendly, look for the matching knife tattoos on a couple of the chefs.

QUALITY is definitely the hallmark for this restaurant! I’ve come here twice for breakfast and both times they have exceeded my expectations. Its surprising since the dishes all seem relatively simple(scrambled eggs, avocado, etc.) but the seasoning and the flavors are all so rich. Their ability to make simple sounding dishes taste so qualitatively delicious is beyond my understanding, but I’m definitely not complaining! I’ve tried their Nut granola($ 7) and Australian Style Scrambled Eggs($ 9) which were both honestly really good. Nut Granola — really liked the nuttiness of the dish. It usually comes with yogurt but they ran out, and instead served it with almond milk(which I actually might prefer after eating it). Super light and yummy! Australian Style Scrambled Eggs — may look simple but packed with so much flavor! the pairing of eggs with arugula(drizzled with pesto and olive oil), sautéed sliced tomatoes, and bread(with tomato sauce that tasted like pizza) was perfection! Love the atmosphere and minimalistic feel of the restaurant. I also really like how they consistently change or add things to the menu. Next time I come here, I definitely want to try their coffees.

The place is really cool. The vibe is hipster like yet the menu is clean and fresh. I ordered the break sandwich and it’s really good. I love prosciutto and fried egg. And the coffee mocha with there home made vanilla bean syrup is delicious. A hard to find place but a real gem in the neighborhood.

Wow. Blown away. I came here because they buy from Electric City Butcher and I wanted to support them. In my experience, people who promote that they use GMO, Organic, etc. usually don’t do a great job with food preparation. Let me tell you this place is the exception. Ham sandwich. Really delicious. Almost scarfed the whole thing. Sliced ham, piled high, delicious. Chicken salad. Perfectly cooked chicken. So moist. Perfectly balanced with seasonings that complimented but did not overwhelm the chicken. Potato salad with lamb. This was the best potato salad I’ve ever had. Awesome, perfectly seasoned fingerling potatoes. Really tasted like just great potatoes. Instead of overwhelming them with mustard, they were accentuated with mustard seeds. Some shallots. Really, really good. Worth a trip for this. The portions are not the normal American eat till you are ready to drop — they are fair but not huge. So if you want to stuff yourself sick, go to Arbys. Prices are somewhat high($ 9 for the ham sandwich) but not outrageous especially considering that they are paying 2 – 3 times as much for the top top quality ingredients as most similar restaurants do. I think that the food is a value given the quality.

Love this place. Kinda hidden and located next to warehouses makes finding it a scavenger hunt. The food is farm fresh, organic and simple. Highly recommend the poached organic eggs and sourdough and avocado toast. If you love coffee, I would suggest their iced almond milk latte with their house made vanilla syrup. Also, ask the chef for his secret home made hot sauce if you want a bit of kick in the buns.

I was putting off writing a review, but I come to see 50+ reviews already for it, so I guess Costa Mesa’s best kept secret is out! Located in the«less hip» sector of CM, Outpost Kitchen is nestled between other businesses and some apartment buildings — not where you’d typically find a restaurant of this caliber. The menu is simple — about 5 – 6 items for breakfast, and similarly for lunch. I’ve been here about 5x and have eaten off both the breakfast and lunch menus. Everything is organic, non-GMO, pesticide-free and most importantly, sourced from local farms. There is nothing sexier than chefs and restaurateurs who are mindful of the carbon footprint and the quality of products they put on their plates to present to customers. Sure, menu items may be a couple of bucks more than other restaurants, but I’d gladly pay that knowing that everything I’m eating is responsibly sourced and prepared. Try the house-made granola with yogurt, or a simple avocado on toast. If you’re hungry, then the plate with the bangers is the way to go. It’s enough to tie you over for a long time. During lunch, the wild salmon salad is perfection! This is the type of food I find whenever I go home to Australia — clean, fresh food that’s not bogged down by unnecessary additives. So I wasn’t really surprised that the chef/owners are from Down Under. Everything from poached eggs to salads and sandwiches are simple and uses seasonings which aren’t going to mess with the natural flavor of the top notch products used. This is also the place where I know I will be able to get a dab of Vegemite on my toast if I want it. If you haven’t yet visited Outpost Kitchen, you must. Just don’t go during the morning or lunch rush because it does get busy. My favorite times to visit are around 10am or after 1.30pm.
