A couple of years ago my wife and I found this little hole in the Japanese food place called sushi box, we fell in love with it and for good reason for the price they had some very delicious food that would rival some of the more expensive dine in Japanese restaurants in surrounding towns. At that time we believe their focus was on making quality food more than the visual surroundings with the more high end restaurant. The last time we were there was about a year ago and the food was the same as all the other times we had gone. Well some things stay the same and then some things change and in the case of sushi box as of tonight they changed for the worst. We ordered our favorite chicken teriyaki plate that comes with miso soup, shrimp and vegetable tempura, steamed rice, California roll, and we got a side of egg rolls. The chicken teriyaki tasted horrible like it was boiled and just had some kind of honey that they tried to pass of as teriyaki sauce drissled over it, the egg rolls had no flavor and under cooked, shrimp and vegetable tempura, miso soup, tempura dipping sauce all just horrible. In their defense I did ask them if they changed ownership and the man at the counter said yes. This explains why a place that I would have given a 4 ½ a 5 star rating just a year ago has now fallen way off the scale to 1 star and that’s only because at least they were still very nice people. My only wish for them is that they get it figured out quickly and change the recipes or go get the recipes that the original owners had before they bought the place. All I can say is my wife and I will never go back to a place that we use to love and raved about to our friends. And I would not recommend it to you either. Very disappointing

Ordered a chicken bowl with extra chicken which I obviously paid more for and I asked to have my chicken in a separate container and the cashier insisted in charging extra for the container. I don’t understand why this business would do this knowing that if I came in and just asked for chicken it would have to come I a container anyways. I live very close and wanted to give my business to the local small business instead now I have to go give my daily $ 10 to waba grill. I don’t understand the reason for penny pinching to loyal customers. It’s not about the money it’s about the principal and the fact that yesterday I ordered the same thing and I was not asked to pay more. STAYCONSISTENT This is very unfortunate because they have a decent product.

I get lunch here for me and my coworkers once week every week and we love it! I usually call the order ahead of time and it is ready to be picked up 10 minutes later. The lady who are runs the front is such a sweetheart. Not once in the past year has my order been wrong. They are thorough and efficient. My favorites are the crunchy roll and the spicy tuna roll. Prices are good and the food is great! I definitely recommend this place to anyone who needs to pick up a quick and yummy meal!

Met a friend here for lunch. Didn’t realize it was a small hole-in-the-wall type place when I suggested we go there. This is a great place to grab a quick lunch, but didn’t have the atmosphere I was looking for to enjoy lunch with a friend. I ordered the Philadelphia roll, the salmon tasted too fishy, but the meal was still ok.

I used to frequent this spot when I stayed in Newport Beach. It was not far from home and you could get a lot of food for very little. I always got the Teriyaki Salmon lunch box… add an extra piece of salmon… and it came with shrimp tempura, a few veggie rolls, white rice, and fried veggies. Then, I’d add an order of CYO sushi(salmon, asparagus, and cream cheese)… all of this for $ 13. Would go regularly and they never disappointed.

Basically Japanese fast food but better than Yoshinoya. Decent prices, fast service and nice workers. There isn’t much seating inside, more of a grab and go kinda place for a quick lunch back to the office. The box lunch deal is pretty good! There’s teriyaki sauce next to the drink dispenser if you like extra sauce. I most likely would come back if I was in the mood for Japanese fast food. Parking can be a bit tough during the lunch hour as there’s a subway and 7⁄11 but people aren’t usually parked for too long.

I love coming here for a quick meal. It’s cheap and the food is decent. My usual is the chicken box lunch which is such a steal.(In my past visit, they did however raise their prices by $ 0.50) The croquettes are to die for. They’re my favorite and I can just eat a bunch of them. The rest of the meal doesn’t stand out to me but it fills my tummy. Definitely call in your order as sometimes it can take awhile as they make your food fresh. One con is that the portion size for the chicken teriyaki varies every time I go. Since I live 5 mins from this place, I come often. Not a place you would drive far for. But if you’re around the area, definitely drop by !

Easy parking, polite workers, solid menu & good pricing. I’m a fan! We always opt for the chicken box lunch. It comes with miso soup, steamed veggies [or salad], shrimp tempura [or croquette], 4 pieces of california roll, teriyaki chicken & rice for under $ 7 [you can get beef for an additional cost]. The food comes out quick, is filling and delicious. I haven’t tried any of the rolls or other items but I see other customers ordering and enjoying them all the time.

Where do I start? The freshness of the rice, or the amazing lunch special they have! For a lil Japanese restaurant, the food is very tasty and the service is fast. Yes the place is small but you can order Togo and take it home: D or if you are on a lunch break, perfect for taking back to the office! I highly recommend trying the croquettes. They’re lil potato cakes deep fried… need I say more!

Remember this is fast food Sushi, so don’t expect the quality to be as good as a sit-down sushi restaurant. Got a eel roll to go, cheap and fast. Quality was okay. Probably won’t make a special trip to this place.

This is literally a small box of a sushi spot. Very limited indoor seating. We came here because we couldn’t decide on where to eat and thought that sushi would be a good way for us to build up some energy for an upcoming event that we were participating in. Boy, was this a horrible choice… We ordered the Sushi Box(salad, edamame, 4 piece California roll, 5 piece sushi) as well as the Crunchy Roll and Teriyaki Chicken Roll. All of which was less than mediocre. It didn’t seem fresh to us at all. We left feeling dissatisfied, unhappy, and wishing we had eaten anywhere else. Perhaps we ordered the wrong items or were there on a bad night, but we will not be coming back here again. …We hate leaving bad reviews, but… we just had to on this one.

This is a tiny Japanese bento box place in a small strip mall. There isn’t a whole lot of parking as this place shares the lot with a 7 – 11 and a Subway. For the most part this is a to go place. There are however about 6 tables inside with seating for 2 at each table. One orders and pays at the front and in a few minutes the order is ready! Service is fast and friendly. It’s perfect for when you don’t really have time for lunch and need to get back to work. The really sweet deal here is the BOXLUNCH. It starts at $ 6.48 for teriyaki chicken. BBQ beef or teriyaki salmon is priced at $ 6.98. Each box lunch comes with 3 sides as follows: Side 1: Choice of Tempura(1 shrimp and some veggies) or Croquette Side 2: Choice of 4 piece California roll or 4 piece vegetable roll Side 3: Green salad or steamed vegetables All the lunch boxes come with rice and miso soup. The best part about the BOXLUNCH is that it is served ALL day!!! This is a steal. Taste wise the food is decent. It’s not high quality Japanese food, but it tastes good and the friendly service and pricing make it an incredible VALUE! On my initial visit I went with the teriyaki chicken, tempura, 4 piece California roll, and steamed vegetables. The chicken was all dark meat and was tender. I’m definitely looking to come back again when I need cheap, fast, and good food! They do offer some sushi items, add-ons to the box lunch, as well as some extras. Stick with the box lunch as it is extremely satisfying and filling!

For this being a fast food sushi place, it’s actually decent fish. I’ve only been once on a recommendation from a co worker and I wasn’t disappointed. I got the salmon bento box which comes with California roll, salmon, rice, tempura and salad. It gets pretty filling. It’s close to my main office so if I ever needed a quick, cheap bite I’d be back! Don’t expect anything amaze balls though. Also, super small place I’d recommend taking it to go. Parking is also a B cus it’s a small complex but there is more parking in the back.

Super happy with the food and service here. The people at the front at super nice! It’s a perfect place for a delicious quick meal at a great price! Can’t beat the deal on the lunch boxes, and they have a bunch of options too.

Very small place with just a few tables. I got sashimi box for $ 11.50. It came with 3 tuna, 3 yellowtail, 3 white fish and 3 salmon. It was surprisingly fresh. It came with a side of salad and edamame. My order came out fast. Perfect portion for lunch.

Not the best sushi but pretty good. The prices are insanely affordable. Got a sushi plate for under $ 10. Consisted of 5 pieces of sushi, 4 cal roll pieces, salad, and edemame. They also sell Asahi for under $ 3 too. Saw sake and plum wine but I didn’t get the prices on it. I’m sure it’s affordable too. So glad I tried this place. You low on funds but need Sushi, go here

If you’re looking for cheap and fast Japanese food, Sushi Box is the way to go. I read on Unilocal that this is a popular spot for a convenient grab-and-go lunch if you’re in the area, but I met a friend there for dinner after a quick IKEA trip. There was only one other family dining in Sushi Box during our entire time there. I can see why it’s a convenient spot for take-out Japanese food, but not really for dine-in … especially if you have a large party. There are only a few tables of two inside, with another table for two outside. But on a Saturday night around 5:30 p.m., the place definitely was not busy. There are various rolls on the menu, but I decided on one of the«Lunch Box Specials.» There are several different types, but I chose the combo featuring chopped teriyaki chicken. With each combo, you get your choice of three sides — I chose green salad(which I ended up not eating because I was full), the four-piece California roll and the croquette patties(I was tempted to get tempura, but I do love a good croquette). The combos come with a small bowl of miso soup on the side. In essence, all that good food for $ 7. My friend ordered an avocado roll and the assorted veggie tempura. Her husband got one of the«Lunch Box Specials» as well, but with beef(or some other meat). Our meals were ready in no time because we were one of the only parties there. My teriyaki chicken was flavorful, tender and generously coated with teriyaki sauce. The meal came with an ample amount of rice — I think I only ate half of it. The four-piece California roll was standard – just your typical California roll – but the croquette patties were amazing. They were soft(full of potato and I think some veggies, almost like a hash brown) and nicely breaded on the outside. And, the meal came with two of them. The miso soup was good, albeit a bit salty, but it was good to drink the hot soup on a rather cool night in the OC. Although this is probably considered fast food-style Japanese cuisine, Sushi Box satisfied. I know at other places, you wouldn’t be able to get all that food at that cheap price! If I were ever in the area again and needed a quick meal, I would definitely stop by Sushi Box again. There is a small parking lot, but I imagine that it can get quite busy around lunch time(and the parking spaces are limited). But if you’re in the area around dinner and are looking for a quick spot to dine at(or get take-out from), Sushi Box won’t disappoint.
