Stopped in for breakfast. The café is cute. The waitress was fine. The coffee and juice were weak. The food was definitely average. I wouldn’t make this my regular breakfast place but for the location in was A-OK.

This place is an oasis in the middle of the nothingness that is Mount st Helens. The owner has made a real effort here with the bar and menu and it shows. It is worth the extra cost for food, drink and desert to have some civilization in the the middle of the forest. Good job!

Great service good food. After hiking ape caves it was the best place ever. The Tempranillo was the best $ 15 bottle I have ever had.

Wonderful nights stay. Much nicer and safer than the rv park right next door. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Just a short drive up the road to the ape caves. Nice little rec room and play set too.

Two stars seems low, but by Unilocal standards it means«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» which is pretty accurate. Everyone here was very kind and helpful which really made up for a lot. However… I ordered a grilled cheese at the restaurant but the cheese wasn’t melted all the way through, which is really the only requirement for making grilled cheese. There were cobwebs and a spider in the shower stall. We rented the tent site but the ground was too hard and we couldn’t get the tent spikes in which left our waterproof cover to flap against our tent for most of the night. Our tent neighbors had a smoky fire going on that blew into our site. There was zero privacy which was a little awkward — though I am ignorant about tent sites that are not in WA state parks and recreational sites where there is a little more privacy. Pitching a tent here was like pitching a tent in the middle of a city. We were next to cabins where people were quite loud and there were children and babies crying. Our tent was right next to a gravel road so the cars driving by were really loud because the tires were right next to our heads. After an exhaustive hike up St. Helen’s we got the worst possible sleep. If we stayed here again, we would get a cabin and bring ear plugs. For $ 22 I didn’t really feel like anything was offered besides a patch of land and a bathroom.

My husband and I chose this local spot as a resting area after we hiked the Ape Caves which are about 12 miles up the road. We’d made previous reservations for a tent spot and the folks on the phone were fantastic and the reservation went off without a hitch. $ 22 dollars a night. Only 3 tent sights.

Stayed for 4th of July night. Place was packed, RV’s, tent camping everywhere, cabins and motel rooms. Less than desirable room, No washcloths, no shampoo or conditioner, no coffee cups and mice droppings in the bed. Not trying to sound picky, but come on… for 95 bucks I excepted more. Can’t say I have the slightest desire to be back. 4th of July evening, the people of cougar line the streets hours before dark and set up their spots to watch fireworks. Everyone had their own displays to set off that went late, late into the evening. Never seen anything like it before. Fireworks just going nuts with cars trying to get through the street. Interesting to say the least. The evening was fun, but the lodging was terrible.

A group of 5 of us stayed here so that we could play on Helens. Lone Fir met our most basic needs perfectly: a bed, toilet and shower. Discover is an accepted credit card. My wife and I stayed in 3D: Queen bed, small refrigerator, microwave and in-room coffee maker(4 cups). Check-In is at 3pm and check-out is at 11:00am. We arrived a couple of hours early and the staff had no problem letting us check in earlier than the stated 3pm. Loved that :) There is no cell phone service and the Wi-Fi is spotty at best. We all hiked to the Ape Caves(11 miles from our lodging) Saturday. Very neat hike. After our hike we all came back to camp and visited a bit before heading to the Pizza Café for dinner. The pizza tastes delish after a day of hiking and the brews(Dead Guy on draft — Yes!) go down quite smoothly. It was nice to see this place fill up with hungry and thirsty adventure seekers. Sunday morning we checked out at 8:30am to hike Lave Canyon(amazing). Thank you Lone Fir for the hospitality and allowing us to play in your back yard. We will be back!
