Stopped for lunch and the food was really good… however I was hoping to eat with real silverware… my plastic fork was bending every which way as I tried to eat the broccoli in my dish… other than that… I loved the food

Love this place. This is the only asian food place I will even attempt to order from. It is the last decent place in town. Food is always awesome and the service is welcoming. No matter what I order it is hot, right, and easy on the pocketbook. My ONLY complaint is they do not deliver.

My family and I decided to read a few reviews when searching for the «best» Chinese in Council Bluffs, and gave a Taste of China a shot. We were some what impressed.
Feeding a family of four, ordering water for all but with an appetizer, we were able to keep the tab under $ 25; which is remarkable. They give you so much food everyone was full, and we took some home.
The cheap food comes at a small cost; the ac was turned off (front door wide open) in the middle of August. And plastic forks, spoons, and glasses were substituted.
If none of that bothers you, then great, id rather have a cheaper meal too.
The food was filling and a hit n miss. My shrimp fried rice tasted rushed. The rice wasn’t given enough time to recool and fry, but the shrimp they used were enormous. The taste was a little bland as well. The crab rangoons were house made, but no taste. Pure cream cheese filling and very bland.
My daughter’s broccoli and shrimp was amazing! I should have ordered some to go. My wife’s chicken lo mein was delicious. We’d never eaten any like it. The hot soup that came with was great too.
We’d probably stop by again if we’re in the area.

Honestly, if I could visit this place on a daily basis, I would. I moved away from Council Bluffs almost 8 years ago, and I still make it a point to eat here every single time I am in town. Right now, I am sitting at home, in California, 1,600 miles away, and I STILL crave this every day. The lady in the front, I wish I knew what her name is, she ALWAYS remembers me. She always asks how life is, and even remembers my order. Gosh, what I would do for some of their General Tso’s, EXTRA spicy, with chow mein noodles (instead of rice– a recent change, may I add. Wasn’t an option back in ’06) right about now… add the Won Ton soup with crab rangoons, and I’d probably accept a marriage proposal. *sighhh*

Bad customer service, slow service and a very unclean appearance. The woman taking the order seems to speak and understand english yet jacked my order up. Correcting it was like talking to a cardboard box… Won’t be back.

This place is great. I love their general’s chicken, it’s totally ‘to die for’. Such a radical place. Perfect for ordering take out and spending a nice night in with your girlfriend watching movie.
As I’m writing this review I realize that I want to actually order some take out from them tonight. Their crab Rangoons are also very good. Possibly the best Chinese food that I’ve had since moving to council bluffs.

This is the only Chinese food place in Omaha worth eating at. The food is excellent, and the wait is never too long. The staff are pretty friendly most if the time. It does seem like more of a «to-​go» restaurant than a place to eat in, although it is an option.

2.5 stars if I could.
Stopped in because I want to be as proactive as I can about trying the local Council Bluffs restaurants. For some reason Chinese restaurants strike fear in me – probably because of a few truly awful experiences when I was living in Florida.
But I want to give these guys a fair shake. They’ve got all the standard Chinese restaurant items and they also offer pint and quart sizes. They deserve a shot.
So, the good:
Fresh veggies & mushrooms.
You get A LOT in a pint.
Steamed rice was well cooked.
And the «meh»:
Service.
Flavor.
I asked the gentlemen at the counter what he’d recommend — I actually asked him, «What would you order?» And he pointed to the most expensive item on the menu.
Ha. Ha.
So I decided to go with the Chicken & Mushrooms with steamed rice.
Took it to go. It was all of $ 5.30 with tax.
Inspected the veggies and chicken — pea pods, carrot, mushrooms and bamboo shoots (I think they were bamboo shoots) were all fresh, which was a relief, except for maybe the bamboo shoots. Those have to be canned, right?
Chicken — which is what I was most afraid of – was tender, thin and cooked thoroughly. Best of all, it was all white meat. So that’s good.
But the flavor. Or complete lack thereof. Bland, bland, bland. Added soy sauce and some Sriracha to try to give it some life and it basically just made it a bit saltier.
There was no flavor WHATSOEVER to the brown sauce. None.
Too bad.
Would I go back? Maybe.
I’d like to give a breaded chicken dish a try, but is Sesame Chicken for almost $ 9 worth it if it’s just frozen breaded chicken chunks heated up in some bland sauce and served with some broccoli? I dunno. Are fried from frozen crab rangoon worth it? Perhaps. Does anyone serve them homemade at these prices? Probably not.
I need FLAVOR. Taste of China didn’t taste like anything.

I have been eating here for years and the food is made to order, always hot, and always delicious.
The service is also always cheerful and fast.

I had been trying to find some decent Chinese food since we moved here. Great Wall on Woodbury was very disappointing – just not tasty. Panda Express is, well, Panda Express (i.e. not terrible, but the stuff sits out all day and is overpriced for what it is). Taste of China has been SO much better than either of those. The place is dated, but the food is good and always very hot (cooked fresh). Large portions and low prices, especially the lunch specials – under $ 5 for a bowl of soup and a large portion of entrée and rice (for me it’s enough for 2 lunches). Even at dinner, we spent only $ 14 for both my husband and I. I particularly want to recommend the crab rangoons. I am usually extremely disappointed at the lack of filling in most restaurants’ rangoons. The rangoons here are more of a wonton shape and are chock full of cream cheese. Yum!

I have eaten their food for years, and truly like it and the service. Their lunch specials are great, and no matter what you order you get a lot of great food. I particularly like the hot & sour soup and General Tso’s chicken.

This was a suggestion from a friend and she was spot on!
The hot sour soup is very good (not as sour as most). The Singapore Style Rice Noodles were fantastic. My gf ordered the crab rangoon and beef fried rice and loved them both.
It appears that most of their business is take out but the have a dining area. The service was great and the food was outstanding.

I really wouldn’t even give this 1 star if I didn’t have to. The food here is horrible. Not very tasty at all. I tried everything I could in order to find something here that had flavor. To my surprise the only thing I tasted that was some what edible were the french fries. Not joking. The dining area is not very clean. Carpets need cleaned very badly. Restrooms are not the cleanest either. I will NOT be visiting here again.

Nothing particularly good or special about this place, other then the fact its like the only Chinese food in town. Can’t comprehend the 4.5 star rating, the food looks and tastes just like it does at a mall food court. This is the 3^rd consecutive disappointment I fell into because of Unilocal.Seriously, some of you deserve to have your accounts deleted.
Decided to go for the szechuan chicken initially, but when it came out as a pile of vegatables swimming in oil with little actual chicken, I decided to order something else, so an order of general Tso’s chicken was dispatched. It was equally disappointing as the first dish, not sure how much of it was actually chicken. See for yourself — check out my pics.
If there’s one good thing I can say, its that the portions are generous, and the prices very reasonable. You shouldn’t leave hungry, as long as you like what you’re eating.
In short, if you don’t live here or aren’t from here, go to PF Changs instead.

Quick service on decent Chinese take-​out. Nothing amazing, but that doesn’t mean it was terrible either. Good place to go when in a hurry and wanting something to take out. Dining in leaves a lot to be desired.

Semi impressive, I will state it is best to go when busy due to the availability of hot food getting replenished regularly, I have been going here for 8 years now at least once a month, like the Rangoon’s.

This place is very good! You get a ton of food and the prices are very reasonable. This comes close to being the best chinese restaurants in the Omaha/​CB area, I really can’t think of another place that has better food or better prices. This is a casual place so not really a place for a first date or any formal/​semi formal occasion. If you want a nice trendy place that charges you up the ass for «chinese» food then go to PF Changs, if you want great food you know where to go!
