My wife and I where in West Covina visiting our daughter we stop at El Pavo bakery to pick up some bread and tamales and get on the Metrolink to go home to San Bernardino what a disappointment the tamales were horrible I mean the masa was dry the meat was old and tasted sour I’m so f***** pissed off I don’t understand why a business like this would sell garbage very disappointed bye the way the bread was good.

This place is great! You take in a picture of some type of cake idea you want and you best believe they can do it. We recently had a Wild Turkey bottle cake made. It wasn’t the flavor but the shape of the bottle and everything. Very detalied. I will be coming back if I need cakes made.

The conchas are bomb here… Nothing compares the bread from east la but this is close to it

Picked up the chocolate mousse cake on a Sunday! The cake was delicious, perfectly mousse-y and not to sweet as to overpower the moist chocolate cake. So convenient they’re open on Sunday’s, Definitely my new favorite local bakery.

I’ve used El Pavo on several occasions and never had a problem. However on the most important occasion, my daughters first baby shower, El Pavo bakery in Covina completely let me and my daughter down. I was hoping after several conversations with bakery employees and managers issues would be resolved however when it was time to pick up our cake it was nothing as we had been promised. Needless to say we will no longer use El Pavo for our events again.

This review is only about the tamales. I tried to find some serious tamales that are similar to ones that I’ve found in East LA. Of course, homemade is always 100% better! I tried the ones from El Pavo and was not really impressed. I ordered the chicken, pork and beef. All fell short and the comments on these are about the same… dry. The masa was way too much with very little meat. The beef was unusual. It didn’t taste bad, just not used to having beef tamales, so tread lightly with beef. Genuinely, the chicken and pork may have been good, but there wasn’t enough meat to give a fair review. The masa is not mixed with chile sauce, so don’t expect it to be flavorful. I haven’t had the baked bread or desserts here, so i’ll have to go back and give that a try. I really want to like the offerings here, so I’m willing to give another try. The customer service wasn’t bad when I went, so I have no complaints there.

Let me start out by saying the pan dulce here is delicious. It tastes great and it is definitely one of the best in the area. With that being said, my last 3 vista have had POOR customer service on the part of Jose Luis who I can only assume is the manager. I come in with my 3 kids in tow so they can pick out there bread. The ladies are very understanding but Jose Luis goes out of his way to scold them even though there are other kids doing the same thing. I would give this place 5 stars but will only give it 3 because of his HORRIBLE way with kids

I love El Pavo bakery I first went to El Pavo in San Gabriel and when I found out they opened on here in Covina I was excited I went in with my Fiancé and went to price a wedding cake the gentlemen at the front was so awesome. He was helpful and worked with us and made sure we felt comfortable being there. After we talked to him on what we wanted my wife seemed pleased with the price and what she was ordering. So we decided to get the cake we even told the that we would need it for a specific date and they made sure it was ready on that day. When the day came to get the cake I went and my wife was so pleased with the appearance and even more with the taste. It was awesome. They also have delicious mexican bread and some good coffee to go with it. Our experience was so good that I just yesterday went to place an order for my stepdaughter’s baby shower cake, cupcakes, and cookies.

I was excited to see an El Pavo open in Covina. We lived near the El Pavo in Temple City /San Gabriel and loved it. We purchased an assortment of sweet breads and found them to be tastless. I returned and bought more sweet bread and a burrito a few weeks later. Again they were poor quality and tasteless.

The ONLY reason I ordered from this bakery was because the flavors offered looked promising and the bakery I wanted to try was closed for 3 consecutive days. BIGMISTAKE! The gal worked with me patiently as I asked about flavors, etc. I specifically asked if their buttercream was a homemade one or commercial type. She assured me it was homemade quality. WRONG! I ordered a yellow cake with rum syrup, pineapple mousse and buttercream icing with fresh coconut flakes. When I saw my cake it looked very pretty and appealing… HOWEVER, the icing was the cheap, commercial, overbearingly sweet stuff! Uggh…1 inch of frosting over two layers of 1 inch cake with 1 ½ inch of pineapple mousse filling. WHAT A DISASTER. Should have been 2 inch layers of cake and ½ inch of Mousse and Icing. I removed the excess icing down to less than ¼ inch. Whipped cream icing would’ve been a better choice, however, the filling was still too thick. It didn’t taste of rum, but the syrup was visible. FYI ¼ sheet cake was $ 46 and less than half was eaten. Such a waste. Thank God for my daughter’s boyfriend who surprised me with a home baked chocolate cake which saved the day! Tropicana bakery in Downey has a delicious Pina Coloda cake, which we’ve previously ordered from. Next time, I’ll take the drive!

I’m glad this bakery came to Covina. Excellent customer service and beautiful bakery nice and clean. So far I got two different cakes for different occasions both of the cakes were wonderful!!! Good taste and very moist. Their prices are good considering the quality of the cakes and also the Pan Dulce. I want to thank El Pavo Bakery for coming to Covina and making a difference. I will continue coming on Saturdays for my delicious Menudo and my chapurrado and why Not my pan Dulce.

BESTBIRTHDAYCAKEEVER! El Pavo Bakery in Covina gave me exactly what I wanted for my 21st birthday cake. I originally went in with a two tier cake in mind but when I saw the alcohol shaped cakes I couldn’t say no. I decided on a patron bottle cake and I was so happy with. I have to admit I was quite nervous going to pick it up thinking I was going to be disappointed but it was the complete opposite. My red velvet patron silver cake was PERFECT! Looked and tasted amazing! Best cake I’ve ever had! Thank you so much El Pavo for making my 21st cake my friends and family will never forget!

One great experience can be a fluke, but two deserves a grateful head nod. My experience with the customer service here has been top notch. We have ordered two different cakes and both times they were excellent, moist, visually appealing and not overly sweet. We also really like their tamales. So glad this place is in Covina!

I forgot to update this after my wedding. I did, indeed use El Pavo for my wedding cake. They were awesome about everything, from the cake tasting to delivery. They DO deliver, but it costs extra, but I figured it was the price I would pay to have peace of mind that my cake would arrive intact. We got a three layer cake, with three different flavors. It looked EXACTLY like the picture I gave them, and it was delicious. Moist and sweet, and I chose the whipped buttercream option. My wedding location changed a bit, and they were still able to deliver it to the correct location and we’re completely awesome about it. By far, this cake saved my wedding presentation, as all my other decorations were terrible. Now I buy other birthday cakes here, too!

I can’t say how excited I am to see that there is an El Pavo nearby! I grew up with bakery items from this place when I lived in East L.A. I moved away as an adult, and luckily, found them close enough in San Gabriel. And then I moved away again! This time I’m in San Dimas and trekking to San Gabriel is just too much and there aren’t that many great mexican bakery nearby. I had no idea about El Pavo in Covina until now! I can’t wait to swing by and pick up some pan dulce!

HORRID!!! I asked for pink champagne colored cake and I got HOTPINK!!! And the manager offered no apology and basically blamed me for not leaving an example. I told him I showed his employee and she said they coukd do it and never asked for an example! He offered no discount, no refund, not ever complimentary fucking candles!!! NEVERAGAIN!!!

Overpriced pan dulce. Bought a $ 30 cake and the owner wrote the wrong name on it 3 times after I wrote down exactly what I wanted for him on paper. No discount or apology. Seriously disappointed.

H O R R I B L E!!! i didn’t write a review before because i didnt know about this review app. Any who in March 2014. A couple months ago I went to go get a cake for my sons Birthday party. I asked for a nice buttercream 8″ inch batman cake and they said they could do it. so of course I was excited so when I asked how much it was they said $ 100.00 .I was like ehh ok it’s for my son and I taught it was going to be nice. So I pick it up OMG!!! I was so MAD that cake looked like shit. I didn’t trow it at the girls face because I have manners. I paid and left I know I could of left it their. But I was like no I order it so I’m taking it but for sure not going back to that crappy place!!!
