Yum yummyummmm! Halibut sashimi was high grade and fatty– just delicious! The spicy tuna roll is not so spicy(which is how I like it) and the rice they use is warm. They mix it with something and it’s excellent. The house cucumber roll is a mix of fish and it’s wonderful. The place is not cheap and the food artists take time as it is necessary but this is a must for sushi aficionados everywhere!

Been to almost every sushi place from Covina to upland and this has some of the best quality sushi here and the price resembles that. 1 – 2 premium rolls is 2 all you can eats at another place but the food is just that much better.

I went close to 10pm on a Wednesday night, and my expectations of a quiet, nearly empty restaurant were met. However, like all food, sushi is best when there is high turnover. I would love to come back on a weekend at dinner time to eat their sushi at its best! It tasted as good as raw food can by the end of a long day. The portions are generous, the presentation is appealing, the sashimi meal was well-balanced. The décor is comfortable and the hospitality is warm, kind, and personal. The woman who greeted and served me was very nice and the chef and staff cleaning up behind the sushi counter made me feel welcome. I don’t think this place is «$$$» like the Unilocal page says. Especially considering the portion size, the prices are on the low end of sushi spots around here. I would go back again. Like tacos hot off the grill, though, sushi might be best served when there’s high turnover, like on a weekend. The fish was kind of too cold, like it had just come out of a cold fridge, where it has to sit if nobody is going to immediately order it. Thank you!

Why did I find out about this place after I moved out of state??? The best sashimi I have ever had. Master sushi chef is the owner. He trained in Japan. Wish he could answer my question why Set up your restaurant in COVINA? People need to come here to taste the best. I will be telling everyone I know to come here. The sashimi was so fresh and we got so much food. It is well worth the price. The Master chef takes pride in his work so know you will receive the very best fish and presentation. So COVINA and surrounding cities, no need to travel to Japan for amazing Japanese cuisine just head over to Hayakawa! Enjoy! I know I will be back every time I visit!

This place has ruined me for other sushi restaurants. They have this awesome, buttery, halibut sashimi that really does melt in your mouth. If I lived any closer, I would go broke eating here.

Sushi is my favorite food and I’m very critical of the sushi I eat. However, my exposure to sushi has been limited to southern California. I don’t travel much. But I promise you, this is the best sushi I’ve ever had. Everything I thought I knew about sushi turned out to be a lie. T_T Enter Hayakawa. We ordered the New Style Sashimi, thin slices of(halibut? Don’t quote me) fish covered in a buttery veil of oil. The fish was delicate and it nearly melted in my mouth. We had several rolls. Tuna nigiri, soft shell crab, and peppered salmon to name a few. The soft shell crab was light, crispy, and not at all oily. The tuna nigiri was the most surprising because I never knew how much flavor could come of such a simple roll. The peppered salmon had to be one of my favorites, a lightly seared salmon sprinkled with pepper over the most perfect sushi rice I’ve ever had. Everything was fresh, the fish was velvety in texture, and I never asked for any kind of sauce because every roll was that flavorful. Bring your big kid wallet because this place is real fancy and real worth it. Oh, and the owners are TOOCUTE. You can tell they are proud of their establishment. GETCHUSOME

Hayakawa serves the best Toro steak sushi. It’s very juicy, flavorful and melts in your mouth. Sushi is always fresh here. Their salmon kelp roll is my another favorite. Chef’s original sauce is to die for!

The freshest and most delicious sushi I’ve ever eaten, without exception. And I’ve been eating sushi since 1979!

This was a nice little place. I got 3 rolls to go. California roll, was good, but I like some cucumber in it for texture. It was just mushy. Spicy tuna. not what I was used to. I’m used to some sesame oil, sriracha, texture? None. A little spice but mostly room temperature tuna. Tempura shrimp roll. Finally some texture! It was good. The wasabi was spice, maybe not the crappy generic stuff, All in all, 3 rolls $ 27 I won’t go there again, not worth it.

Delicious! The sushi here is amazing and the owners and staff are so friendly. By far the best sushi we’ve found in the area. We love it.

I was in the area on business and had to come check out this spot. I got the lunch chirashi and was blown away by how much good food you et for only $ 18. You get a good sized green salad, an appetizer(ours was this super tasty noodle soup), miso soup, and chirashi. The chirashi has tons of great fish(salmon, albacore, octopus, shrimp, yellowtail, and more). The rice was really tasty and had extra seasoning in it than the normal sushi rice. I will definitely be back if I’m in the area. Lunch closes at 2.

What a wonderful restaurant! Not at all expected in this area. 3 of us ordered cooked fish, Rock Cod, Salmon and Scallops. Then we ordered a Nigiri Sushi Dinner and split it. The dinners came with miso soup, salad and a mini udon. I was already WOW’d at this point! Udon was perfect! Last but not least we ordered the famous Mille Crêpe dessert ~ whatever you do don’t miss out on this! We shared the Mille Crêpe, but we all admitted we could of ate the whole thing by ourselves! As we were leaving, we were already discussing what we want to try next time! That pretty much tells you how much we enjoyed the food.

One of my favorite on a budget lunch spots when at East San Gabriel Valley, Chirashi is the best in LADMA, great fresh fish on top of special rice that is mixed with fresh water eel and special seasoning + miso(very good) + green salad + special surprise small dish. all of this for only $ 18. The hand rolls are great as well with lots very fresh fish and special sauce, very impressed with sushi chef Kazu.

Best Omakase in the SGV, hands down. This place is quiet, secluded and a best kept secret. Fish quality is beyond some of the best around. The price reflects the quality, so do not expect to pay less than $ 80 per person, if you’re considering the Sushi Omakase. I let the fish speak for themselves.

Came here for a casual dinner with my hubby. Their sushi was amazing! A bit pricy but oh my was it perfect! We will definitely be coming back, but maybe not for a casual dinner since it is very pretty in there and their customer service is on point as well! It was all worth it will be coming back truly a hidden gem!

Hidden gem! We had sushi and cooked food. I’m glad we found this place because it’s expanded our food options quite a bit. This will probably be our go-to for Japanese cuisine. P. S. the sushi chef and the staff are SUPER friendly and kind.

Recommended by a fellow sushi connoisseur Unilocaler who gave it 5 stars in 2012 and again in 2014. Contrary to what this place is known for(their Japanese fusion 7 course Omakase for $ 80 per person or their designer rolls) their individually ordered sushi bar is just as good. The sushi chef was busy with table orders so we initially were slightly disappointed but when he had time for us, our experience exceeded our expectations. He was super friendly, nice and aware of our palettes. We ordered Aji, which was drenched in ponzu), but when the sushi chef realized that we wanted something a little more fresh, he made the Toro, Amaebi, Hotate, Hamachi belly, Tai, and Mirugai with a little bit of yuzu kosho with no soy sauce or ponzu. They’re known for their Uni Tempura and we were surprised by how something so simple as Uni, that is eaten raw, could still taste so fresh. You can definitely tell that they use fresh oil for deep frying as evidence with the Uni Tempura and Shrimp head from the Amaebi.

One of the best sushi places I’ve been to. They use real crab in their California rolls, which makes rolls that use the CA roll as a base phenomenal. For example, the rainbow roll, which is pricey at $ 18, but it’s not that bad when you consider there’s real crab on the inside and very generous cuts of tuna, salmon, and white fish on top. They don’t use avocado or shrimp on top of the rainbow roll like many other places. I’ve never been displeased with anything that I’ve ordered and their service is top notch. Can’t ask for much more in a restaurant.

Nigiri sushi lunch today was outstanding and for the freshness, quality and flavor, a real deal at $ 18.95. The meal included miso soup, salad, cooked fish, one tuna roll and seven delicious pieces of sushi. Ambiance offers peace and calm in a sense of beauty. All three of us agreed that this was excellent sushi in a wonderful atmosphere. Service was excellent. Arigato!

We came for the 6 courses omakase dinner and it pretty good for the price -$ 80 per person. Can’t believe there’s such a unique restaurant tucked in the middle of Covina. Service was good. Food was a fusion of Japanese and French food. I enjoyed it.
