Depot Country Station

A regular «Sunday after church» lunch stop for us! Home cooked food, great atmosphere and friendly people make this a must-​try if one is in Covington!

As you all know, I am a huge fan of The Vampire Diaries and recently visited Covington for my very own self guided tour :). We were feeling hungry so we stopped in this place where TVD is occasionally filmed and hoped for the best. Outside its a run down train depot but inside it’s a hot mess. We walked in at 12pm on a Saturday to find a handful of day drinkers loudly cutting it up at the bar. We took a seat at the bar and I took one look at their kitchen and I instantly decided I wasn’t hungry anymore. We ordered beers, took pictures like tourists, I even sat in the same place Damon did in one of the episodes! Don’t get me wrong this would be a great bar to visit at night with pool tables and lots of memorabilia hung on the bar. And even the patrons beside us were relatively nice but if you’re itching for some delicious lunch fare skip this place for sure :).

This place has a very fun atmosphere, decent food and reasonably priced drinks!
My only problem…
I think the staff should inform you (if they know your from out of state) when they stop serving and also if you order food, they should warn you if they are about to close.
I went there on a Sunday night around 11:30 (new to town and unaware of the insane alcohol laws from county to county)
We ordered food and drinks, the moment we received our food last call was announced, when I asked the bartender for one last drink (last call usually means order your last drink and you have about 15 – 30 mins to finish before they close), she said they couldn’t serve anymore and proceeded to kick every person out of the bar and I mean LITERALLY kicking people out! I have never seen anything like it in my life!
Steer clear of the «Cheese Dip» more like milk in a bowl.
I would go there again with a group of friends and family to play pool and laugh and listen while drunk people sing karaōke. I will for sure make myself aware of closing time :)

For a buffet it’s not bad at all, foods pretty good and the staff are friendly and attentive. I go there 3 or 4 times a month there are a couple of outstanding items on the Buffett Chicken livers & fried chicken are awesome and the corn muffins are outstanding These three items are good enough to make up for any other lackluster menu items. I’d reccommend the Depot to anyone, If you are in the neighborhood I’d say give them a shot
