I love Metromix and Citybeat free mags, they are full of tips on things to: do-eat-watch-and listen too! This week I kept seeing Flippin’ Jimmys burger notices and told Miss Mona«new place to go get my burger-on», went into my best Otis Day and told her let’s, «hit it» So today was my day… annnnnnnnnnnnd here’s the scoop: It’s a burger joint sandwiched between an old school boobies bar and an older school neighborhood bar(catch the old Weideman Beer sign). A large very vanilla room has high top tables for about 3 dozen. Burger menus abound and the joint has table service. Beverages are served in 20 ouncers straight from the bottle: no cups, no ice, and no cheer… adult libations are reserved for the joints that bookend this burger spot. Sirius radio jams and a few cool pics make up the atmosphere. In fact everything about FJ’s is pretty much as vanilla as the room, the décor, and the atmosphere. The spiciest it gets here is the boobies next door… The iphone gets zero signal at interior tables, but picks up so-so if you sit by the window. There are no offical Unilocal, FACEBOOK or any Internet check-in discounts. deals, or markers. Seriously? How can a place that wants to draw a clientele that will pay 9 bucks for a cheesburger, NOT have a web presence? No Google places, no facebook offical check-ins, no Unilocalers deals… and no free wi-fi? okaayyy… but… Burgers are pretty much straight forward offerings. No man vs food monstrosities, no free range, local produce, fresh baked, Ky grown, crowing going down in this place. Our burgers were ok. Not bad /not memorable… Ok. Which pretty much falls right in line with everything about the place(except for the price). Credit cards are welcome, and you might need one. 2 burgers, a half order of chicken chunx(white meat cut and grilled /fried with dipping sauces), waffle fries and frozen O-rings, 2 bottles of pepsi = 28 bucks… A little much for what you(don’t) get…

Located next door to the«Venus Lounge» on 5th street in Covington we find one of Northern Kentucky’s newest eateries, Flippin’ Jimmy’s. The menu is pretty straight forward, focusing mainly on burgers, chicken sandwiches, and wings. They have salads too, for the healthier eater, but I had to take try out their main dish, a 1/3lb burger. The wait was a little long, I think about 15 minutes from order time to delivery, but truthfully it’s worth it. The burgers are obviously hand pattied and served on a fresh seasme bun. Topped with Lettuce, Onion, Tomato and bacon is how mine was built. They didn’t ask how I’d like mine prepared and it was served well done, brown throughout. Next time I’m going to request a medium prep, but since I didn’t specify, we’ll give them a pass. Served alongside waffle fries, I found my lunch to be very satisfying and worth the price. My only real complaint, other than the well done-ness, is that they don’t serve water in a cup. All water is served in a bottle, and costs as much as a soda, which brought my total bill plus tip to $ 12. A bit higher than I’d like to pay, but it’s a locally owned business, and a good option for lunch or dinner!

I am never one to turn down a burger. Never. You say, «Hey Alex, would you like to get a hamburger,» and I am punching you in the face for asking me such a ridiculous question. Of course I want to get a hamburger! So when I heard Covington had a new burger spot, you know I was all about it. Flippin’ Jimmy’s is actually a little hard to find. It’s tucked down 5th and there’s no giant sign outside(there is one on the window, but unless you’re looking, you’re just going to drive right by — which indeed would be a shame.) I missed it the first time by but hit it the second. Everything at Flippin Jimmy’s is low-key. It’s a one room restaurant where you sit yourself and pay at the cash register after the meal. There’s very little atmosphere — white walls with some pretty photographs on them but nothing over-the-top or amazing. Simple, quiet burger joint. Even the burgers seem simple at first. You can have it with your basic toppings(lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, etc. Cheese, onions and bacon are extra) and they come with either waffle fries or onion rings. So you order, not sure what to expect. Mmm, and then the burgers come out and you know, friends, that you’ve made a good choice. The burger is delicious! Freshly cooked with love, meaty, full of flavor. All the vegetables are fresh and cooked well with the cheese. Damn, this is a solid burger. And big! It’s a lot of food on your plate. At Flippin Jimmy’s, they do bottles of soda instead of a soda fountain, which I actually don’t like as much(but many do, so to each his own.) My giant meal, complete with soda, came out to under $ 10, and I was stuffed and happy for the rest of the day. I actually got a parking ticket for going here(honestly, I thought it was later in the day for some reason and I didn’t need to put money in the meter. Ugh…), and I still think the trip was worth it! If that doesn’t say anything about the quality of the burger, I don’t know what does.

The anti-Terry’s Turf Club burger joint. Not fancy, only options are lettuce, onions, tomato and bacon. But, THEBESTBURGERINTOWN! I am a burger nut, and this is better than Bards, Thelma’s or any other I have had in town.‘ The drawbacks are the limited options, as you can only get waffle fries or onion rings as an accompaniment, and wings are the only other menu item. Been here 4 times already, every time I get the burger crave.
