Rooms are clean and spacious. They have Bath and Body Works amenities which I always love! Room has fridge, microwave and coffee maker, large flat screen. I flew into Roanoke, and entered address in GPS, my first mistake… DONOTDOTHAT! I repeat, don’t gps this hotel(or anything in Covington) if you’re coming from Roanoke. There apparently is some Bermuda Triangle-Off the Radar type thing that goes on and you will be in a strange state, In pitch blackness and it will have you turn at «Craig’s Creek» this will bring you to your destination by way of a windy paved road thru the mountains! Where there are few houses, and no other vehicles, on the road. Unnerving, at best. The clerk at hotel is fully aware of this phenomenon, I just wish the rental car places at the airport were, and would warn you.

The two guys at the front desk(Richard and his twin) were snarky, condescending and acted like they were doing me a favor when I asked for a quiet room. They don’t seem to have a plan for separating business guests from families with children like most other better run hotels in which I have stayed«this is a hotel you know, not your home» they said in my question as to whether there were lots of kids on the floor. The room, when I got there, smelled musty and stale, the air conditioner was noisy, sounded like parts were rubbing together and needed repair. The bedding was fine. The bathroom too is old and needs some work. The breakfast area is tiny and cramped. The price was way too high at $ 165/night. Unfortunately there aren’t many hotels in this area which I suppose is why this sub par HIE can get away with it. I’ll ask not to work in this area again just so I don’t have to stay here again.

By far the most expensive place in town. In fact, if you want to drive a bit, you can stay at the Historic Hotel Roanoke(4 Unilocal Stars) for less than a room here. A simple pre arrival phone call to the front desk was rude, belligerent, and unprofessional. Have not even checked in and already regretting it… should have done my homework. Stay tuned… I know it only gets worse.

Our overall stay was OK but the hotel is very pricey for what you get($ 145; an even nicer HIE in Hagerstown was $ 83) Probably would not go back even though it looked to be the best hotel in the area. I asked why it was so high compared to all the other HIE ‘s and the clerk said it is privately owned. The entrance to the hotel and lobby area did not make a good impression and when we left this morning loud rock music was being piped over the speaker at the entrance doors. Not something I like to wake up to. Halls were dark but once you got to the room it was very modern, clean and nice. The pool and hot tub were clean and with the right temperatures. The female clerk, Katie?, was very personable and helpful as we checked in. The breakfast this morning was ample and typical for HIE, but the apples were shriveled and soft and the muffins were stale and hard as a brick. When I brought it to the attention to the elder man who was in charge of the buffet he didn’t seem to care much. In fact most of the bread items except for the cinnamon roll were a bit stale. The check in clerk recommended an Italian restaurant, Cuccis, which was good and close to the hotel.

The choices are rather limited and we were put off by the price. However the room was very comfortable and we were happy to get off the dark and wet roads. We saved some money because breakfast was included. It was a full breakfast with fresh pancakes, eggs, sausage and biscuits and gravy. They also had lighter fare such as yogurt fruit and hot cinnamon buns. Next time I’ll try to avoid small towns. But if you are here– go for it. The others look scary.

best place to stay while you’re in Covington.(if you pay their rate). On the highway, 5 minutes outside the main city — closer to the ‘better’ places to get a bite in this town. the other motel type establishments are also in the vicinity — but if you want a hotel* experience — THIS is it! It get’s booked wayyyy to quickly — so it’s a lot more expensive than other HIE’s in larger cities.(Supply/demand). I’ve paid from $ 99 to $ 240 per night for the same exact room depending on the time of the year. The hotel isn’t bad — clean modern rooms /standard included breakfast in the morning(HI never has a good breakfast), cookies in the evening. They have treadmills in their gym, a hot tub, and a small pool. very conveniently located within walking distance to everything you could possibly get in covington… Some of the fancier rooms have Jacuzzis as well.

I agree! This is a totally standard(maybe even 10% better) HI Express. Totally clean, totally friendly/helpful staff, great pool, easy to find… But I was here during a PGA event and the rooms are $ 270 !!! But this is beyond illegal — it’s highway robbery while the second guy steals your pants and socks and the third guy repeatedly punches your Mom in the face while stealing your hubcaps and then they force you to film it all being done to you on a crappy Samsung flip-phone. Then you file the police report, go home and the guys are waiting in your family room, hold you at gun point again, and force you to watch yourself get jacked in the comfort of your own home — to re-live the humiliation again and again by plugging your flip-phone into your brand new HDTV. Eventually, they grow tired of your sobbing and begging, so they flip you off as they drive away with your hubcaps AND your HDTV. And you know what, they didn’t even WANT your crappy flip-phone, but they take it anyway — just to be dicks. So now you’re pants-less, socks-less, phone-less and TV-less, your Moms has a black eye and a bloody lip, and you just paid $ 270FOR A HOLIDAYINNEXPRESS. It’s just dirty, really dirty, and I SUSPECT highly illegal… You could stay at a REAL4 star hotel in NEWYORKCITY for this price. I find this to be one of those moments where I sit back and wonder how(or if,) we are really all the same species… This is good old fashioned price fixing, and the greedy owners of this hotel should be ashamed of themselves — but I guess that’s what it takes to get ahead in America, right? Just step on anyone in your way and keep moving upward — just keep in mind that Covington, VA ain’t exactly the shining city-on-a-hill we’re all shoving each other out of the way for. So I doubt $ 270 is worth it…
