Wonderful atmosphere with good old Southern comfort food. Would definitely go back again.

Good and Not so Good! 1st the Good: the food was excellent. The flash fried Oysters with spinach and Brie were perfect as was the Sheepshead entre’. My wife’s hamburger was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. The cocktails, too were very good. Now the Bad: This was on January 2 at 6pm, three tables eating and it took 15 minutes to get the cocktails. The chatter and dish banging in the kitchen was very noticeable. There is no bread service here, which is a mystery since they bake their own. Entire meal, cocktails, one app, and two entres took over an hour and ½ on very uncomfortable chairs. I am fully aware that good food takes time, I’m just happy the restaurant was not full, it may have taken over two hours. I suppose this is a pet peeve of ours, but if I’m going to a fine dining restaurant, like Lola, I expect to be pampered, especially when the entre’s are $ 25 and up. Is it too much to ask to sit in a comfy chair. I do very much enjoy there food and their hospitality, but not the chairs and long waits for simple things. Will go again, perhaps for lunch.

Wow! Best sandwiches ever! Scrumptious and delicious. I had the«Hot Mess» and felt like I died and went to heaven. My friend got the«The Depot» and in her words«it hit the spot and met every craving she has ever had! Ohh and Cauliflower blue Cheese soup… I’m officially dead and in heaven. Thanks Lola!

This review is for dinner only. My husband and I have been enjoying Lola on the weekend nights for several years. We always enjoyed the changing menu choices and were pleased by the creative and tasty specials also. I don’t know if the chef/owners have turned the kitchen over to someone else but it is boring. This is the kiss of death for a restaurant. The food lacks the creative and flavorful touches it used to have and I just don’t understand the lackluster menu. We waited out the season changes to see if it made a difference but it did not. There were months when we went every week but we will not be back for dinner again.

A great experience for my first time at Lola! Great food, great service, and great ambiance for dinner. And, my boyfriend proposed to me in the corner booth! It was so perfect!

Been there once. 4 star level food. Very good New Orleans hybrid fare. Fun atmosphere, great lighting. Tables are a little too close together. Drunk woman listened in on my wife & I’s conversation & was commenting on our topics.

Had a great lunch experience here! First time here, and had Friday seafood special which was shrimp and grits with mushrooms and sausage. Chose the cake over the side salad since it looked so good, and tasted amazing! All food was very good to excellent. 4.5 stars is an accurate rating, since I’ll probably give it 5 stars next time if the food and service is the same.

I am a big fan of cajun food — and when I asked what I should pick between the red beans and rice and the mufalatta — the bartender responded: they are both great, in fact I just had the red beans and rice for breakfast. .. I was sold — red beans and rice it was, and yes, it was THAT good. Great place to stop for a quick bite in Covington…

Hadn’t been to Lola’s in a long while and wanted to go for lunch, which I had heard worked from a different lunch menu, items geared toward working folk. So we stopped in a few weeks ago. It wasn’t immediately clear walking in whether you seated yourself or how orders were placed. Turns out you walk up to the bar and order there now – at least at lunchtime. The staff was unwelcoming, unhelpful, unsmiling, and the atmosphere decidedly cold. When I asked about menu options, the person taking orders silently pointed to a menu board on the side wall without suggesting anything or even a word. We have eaten in the best restaurants in New Orleans, yet for some reason this place on this day felt very awkward. I ordered the ½ sandwich and cup of soup option, specifically the chicken, bacon, avocado and cheese club sandwich and the chicken and wild rice soup. My husband ordered shrimp étouffée. I believe we ordered an appetizer, also, but cannot remember what it was. We enjoyed our appetizer. Both lunches came with a small salad of mixed greens and balsamic vinaigrette dressing. The greens were fresh and the salad flavorful. I was trying to order the less peppery options, but the soup, although having a nice flavor, was far too peppery. The taste was overwhelmed by black pepper and it was quite hot. My sandwich was on homemade focaccia, which was delicious and had tasty roasted chicken, bacon and some nice melted cheese on it. However, the first bite was very unpleasant. Opening the sandwich revealed most of the avocado was covered in thick black fuzzy mold, which accounted for the sharp, acrid taste. There wasn’t time to have them prepare another one, so I discarded the avocado and the slice of bread that was next to it, and ate the other parts of the sandwich separately. The rest of the sandwich was made of very tasty ingredients, but the unpleasant taste of the moldy avocado caused me to lose my appetite somewhat.(It wasn’t that the avocado had turned brown from the air. It was fresh and bright green, except for the areas with thick black mold.) My husband’s étouffée was tasty and he did enjoy it, but he mentioned that it was fairly bland. When I tried it, I was surprised to find it had no heat at all. The chicken and wild rice soup had much more heat(from pepper.) We both thought that odd. Maybe it was just a bad day. Every establishment has them. The food can be very good at Lola’s, but it needs to be more consistent and there needs to be better quality control. It would be more fair, I suppose, to try them again before posting another review, but after the waiter failed to ask how our food was, even though he saw the discarded moldy avocado on my plate, and the generally cold, unfriendly vibe we got from the place, neither of us felt like returning anytime soon.

I want to be clear — this review should be split in half. The overall experience deserves two stars, though the food was closer to four star worthy. The restaurant is housed in an old train depot and very cutely decorated; the kitchen is in a 1940s era caboose. Our group sat at the bar and were happy to chat with the delightful bartender for a while after placing our order. That«while» turned into 45 minutes before our appetizers came. Ok, no big deal, they were busy. Unfortunately only three of our group of seven had ordered appetizers. Also, they brought one dish in the wrong order, and the host was very rude when we informed him. Although we expected main courses to come quickly after that, it took another 45 minutes for them to arrive — a full 90 minutes after placing our order! Overall the food was quite good though. The fried green tomatoes caprese was great, the grilled octopus was fantastic, and the crawfish étouffée was amazing. The vegetarian options were a bit lacking, but I think that is to be expected in Cajun country. If you are looking for good food in Covington, this is a great option, but I would cross your fingers that my experience was an outlier.

A former favorite spot of ours in Covington has slipped a notch or two, primarily due to the overwhelming sound level. I’m giving Lola a «3» instead of a «2» due to our multiple years of very enjoyable meals there. The service tonight, a busy Saturday night was very good, and I want to emphasize that the servers were 4+ star(Kelly and Reed). Our disappointment was in 2 areas; sound level and our formerly favorite drink. The sound level was exhausting, we couldn’t hear the specials from the server, and saw other tables cupping their hand over their ears so apparently we weren’t the only ones having trouble with the noise level. Our formerly all time favorite drink, the blackberry-basil martini either had a recipe switch or the bartender got his/her wires crossed,(a drink with basil needs to HAVEBASIL in it!) We have always recommended Lola in the past but they really need an acoustic«makeover» before we can take or send friends or our business meals there again.

Lola’s is so amazing. My husband, mom, and step dad ate here and of course had drinks. Everything was over the top fabulous. I had the oysters and my husband got the hamburger. I wish I got the hamburger. It was so good. Can’t wait to go back.

LOLA Never disappoints. From the Buffalo Oysters and Crawfish Balls to the Veal Lasagna and Cobia everything is excellent. Now, the addition of the fantastic bar makes it the go-to.

We are traveling and on our way to the French Quarter from a relatives house in Mississippi. We ordered the house meatballs and spaghetti and the hot mess sandwich. The kids each had a strawberry lemonade. The house salad with housemade cranberry vingarette was fantastic. The hot mess sandwich was great, both hubby and I enjoyed that. The kids preferred the spaghetti and meatballs. The strawberry lemonade was a big time win! All in all a great dining experience.

Lola is one of my favorite places on the Northshore because it not only has delicious food but also a great atmosphere. Who wouldn’t like dining in a former train depot? We love grabbing lunch here. They have wonderful sandwiches, soups, and daily specials for lunch. The dinner menu is a lot more diverse than the lunch menu. For dinner I have tried the drum, lamb shank, shrimp & grits, and gumbo. All were very good especially the lamb shank! Lola is a little on the small side and is always crowded but it is still definitely worth coming to!

This is the best lunch spot on the Northshore by far. I have visited three times for lunch and had the $ 9 lunch special and have not been dissapointed. Gourmet homemade food using fresh everything(including the bread for sandwiches) and local farmer’s market ingredients. Good food and good prices. Can’t beat that! On my first visit I had Shrimp Creole over parmesan risotto and my 8yr/old son had the grilled cheese sandwich. My food was delicious and my son said it was the best grilled cheese he’s ever had. He had the half sandwich(which was huge even for an adult) and the mixed green salad. The grilled cheese was on their homemade focaccia and had three different kinds of REAL cheese with sliced tomatoes. I ended up eating his salad which had a slightly sweet vinaigrette dressing with cranberries and I loved it. The $ 9 lunch special comes with that salad or a piece of their hummingbird cake. Don’t get me started on that cake. Each time I’ve been I have had the piece that comes with my lunch special and ordered another piece. It’s only $ 3, so who could pass that up? On my second visit I had the $ 9 lunch special which was butter beans and shrimp with parsley cream. I was hesitant about cream sauce with butter beans, but I had it anyway and was pleasantly surprised. You see, that cream sauce was bursting with real cream flavor that added extra richness of butter flavor to the butter beans. Pure genius, I say. I also had a cup of red bean soup and a cup of corn, blue crab and tasso soup. They were both delicious. I had heard about the red beans so this was my chance to try those. Better than my own, I hate to admit. There was the flavor of a whole pig in those beans and I love pig and pig fat. I am convinced the red bean soup had both. The cups of soup here would be a bowl at any other place. Makes me wonder how big the bowls are, and the cup is only $ 4. I returned on yesterday and placed my order to go and got the $ 9 lunch special again, which was red beans and rice. The portion is enough for me to have lunch for three days. I liked the consistency of the red bean soup better, but it was still really good. It had more beans and less bean broth than the soup. I had another cup of that corn, crab and tasso soup which is such a good flavor combination, as I’ve said– I love pork. It makes almost anything taste better. I almost forgot to mention their homemade strawberry lemonade, a must have to round out a wonderful meal there. I usually forgo caloried drinks for things like hummingbird cake, but I calorie splurged on this stuff. Lola’s is only open for lunch Monday through Friday and has dinner on Friday and Saturday. I just happened to be off the first day I went, and sick the last two times. Can’t wait until either happens again, so I can hit this spot up. Unfortunately, I work in New Orleans and cannot make it for lunch there except rarely. The dinner menu is not the bargain lunch is, but I may possibly try it one day and let you know.

Where to begin? This little gem has it all. Unbelievable cocktails, great ambiance, service, food… Get there early and grab a fresh and unique drink(or three) from the bar… Hopefully 2 of their 6 seats will be open for you. I’m kind of a steak snob; I usually don’t get steaks at restaurants because I’m rarely impressed and feel i can do a far better job at home. However the Hanger steak had me intrigued, and I was not disappointed. I’ve never had this cut of meat before, but i will surely have it again. Outside charred just right while the inside cooked to a PERFECT medium rare. Not often does a restaurant nail a steak for me, but Lola without a doubt did it.
