Hot dogs, chicken tenders and fries. That’s all you need to order. The burgers and other sandwiches are not that great. The dogs are very good as they are full of flavor and come in big fluffy buns. Everything is made somewhat fresh to order. So don’t expect to be in and out like a fast food place. People are pleasent, dogs, tenders and fries are good and it won’t break the bank.

I’ve gone to Spike’s since it opened, food was always great. My problem recently I had with an employee with a pink streak in her hair. I had put an order in for a Chicken Ranger(Bacon, cheddar, lettuce, BBQ sauce). The cashier asked me if I wanted the chicken fried, and I responded yes, the woman goes and starts grilling chicken for my sandwich the cashier tells her that its supposed to be fried and she got bothered by that. When my food was up, I grabbed the bag and walked out… I looked in it to see that by sandwich was on a circular Kaiser roll when I had asked for it to be on a Spikes roll. I told her I asked for a Spikes roll and she kind of rolled her eyes at me. She then took it back and«fixed» it. When I finally got to where I was going to, I opened my food and begun to eat it only to find out that she didn’t put the bacon on the sandwich(which is really the whole reason of ordering a Ranger) …just really annoyed about this

It would be fantastic if you offered the RI grinder sauce at this location :)

Worse customer service out of all locations. I live in Cranston and would drive to the Providence location because it’s so bad there.

You might say, «Whatever, it’s just a hot dog.» There are many ways to a hot dog, and Spike’s is good. There are a ton of toppings you have the option of putting on! In addition, you should try their wings– spicy stuff. I wouldn’t say this is the best hot dog place ever, but the prices are great and they’re open late! Some say call this drunk food, but it’s better than that.

Like I always say cheap food isn’t good and good food isn’t cheap. I have gone here 30+ times and never an issue. It’s the only place where I can say I didn’t mind a dog walking around behind the counter where I would normally call the health department. More of a Rhode Island staple than Del’s lemonade. Yes I said it and I stand by it. A+

I’m one of those folks who is not a big fan of hot weiners, so a place like Spike’s fits the bill for me. The hot dogs are good sized, on a nice sized toasted roll. There are many different types of dogs available, my favorite would probably be the Buffalo Dog. The fries and wings are also good. For the last several years they’ve had burgers under the Lulu’s name, but I have yet to try one. I have been a regular since it first opened in 1999. The prices have crept up a little and the service can be hit or miss at times. Also they close a bit earlier than they used to. That’s why I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5.

Good dogs with lots of varieties to choose from. Dogs are made fresh so it’s not super fast but worth the wait. Service was friendly and helpful. Get a hubcap cookie too. As big as your head!

3.8 stars. A quirky, kitschy local joint that thrives on word of mouth and good food. A nice niche eatery, this place has very good hotdogs and a great vibe. The rating is what it is for several reasons. While the food is good and the menu is expansive, in my opinion a few things lacked. The curly fries were bland, no seasoning to speak of unless I misunderstood and did not order the«seasoned curlies.» A fellow Unilocaler explained how tasty they were but I found they were mushy and tasteless. The cheese sauce we ordered was also bland, a neon yellow sauce that by look promised much salty, piquant taste, I was disappointed by their combined lack of flavor. The chicken wings, while clearly being fried out of a frozen bag, were exactly the fatty, greasy style I was looking for and suspected they served. Ditto for the bleu cheese, you just know theres a TUB of this stuff kicking around back there. Again, exactly what you’d expect from a hotdog joint. The hotdogs were great. Big and juicy, they had a good casing but not the Sabretts(NYC«dirty water dogs. The best!) style snap casing. You get a good bite but I didn’t feel the snap like I wanted too. The bun is unique; like a light, fresh french bread crust with a fluffy, bunny inside, I quite enjoyed it. The signature mustard was good but nothing exceptional. I recommend the German Shepard but there are tons of other choices. On The wall to the right of the counter is an additional hotdog menu I didnt see until after ordering.

I really wanted this place to be better. I don’t mind divey, but there is a difference between divey and just filth. This place is definitely closer to the filth end of the spectrum than the divey end. It was a little scary as I peeked over the counter to see how and where they were preparing my food, and the tables in the dining area were no better. The mustard dispenser had hardened mustard on the nozzle that had been there for God knows how long, making the mustard squirt out sideways. It’s those little things that show you how devoted a restaurant is to cleanliness. If that’s how it is where customers are, how clean do you think it is where customers can’t see? The dogs themselves were ok, big enough to fill you up, but the same quality of dog that they sell at BJs after you check out. The staff while friendly, did not necessarily seem motivated to take pride in preparing the food with care or in a timely manner. All of this was capped off by explosive diarrhea 1 hour after eating. I am not 100% it was Spikes, but when you eat at a filthy place and the people preparing your food don’t seem to care that much, it’s hard to come to a different conclusion.

Last night around 10 pm I left my wallet with around 600 $ in cash in it at this location by accident. I didn’t realize until today that it was missing and never in a million years expected someone to find it and turn it in. But I called spikes just in case and to my surprise the staff did find it while cleaning and were Honest enough to put it in the safe!!! I retrieved my wallet and not a single dollar was missing. I am so grateful to the staff here. Thank you for your honesty

Stopped by spikes while passing through Providence one night. I’ve been around Spikes for ages but never went. It was pretty classy for a hot dog joint! The server behind the counter was friendly and a pleasure to speak with. Chili was fresh made but seemed like it could have been a bit more exciting. The flavors and textures of the cheese, chili, dog and bun didn’t meld as anticipated. Overall, a good spot for a classy weiner.

I admit, it’s been a while since I ventured into Spikes — so I was happy to find out that, aside from adding burgers, not much has changed. Their buns are super fresh and their dogs don’t have that nasty, lingering air of god-knows-what. And the fries. Heavenly. Grab a Rootbeer to wash it all down and a hubcap for dessert. I wish I was in the area more often — especially late night because it’s always good eats.

The best veggie dog I have ever had in my life. The veggie dog is so good, that I get freaked while I am eating it because I am so reminded of the real thing! Spikes has been a late night institution for quite a few years now. Hungry after a late night of partying? Spikes it is! I love that I don’t have to go into the bathroom to wash my hands, as the sink is right there out in the open for you. I also love the décor, it’s whimsical, with spike the dog in pictures all over the place and polaroids of the idiots that tried the spikes challenge(eat as many hot dogs as you can) on the walls. Let me explain why these people are idiots… the hot dogs are freaking huge! Enormous I tell ya! One is more than enough for me, I think two would be enough for a large man, that was really hungry. It’s not just a hot dog roll, it’s and entire half of a french bread loaf. The toppings are numerous, with everything from chili to jalapenos that you can put on your hot dog or burger. I wish I was more adventurous sometimes :-(. The prices however are little bit high. I paid over $ 7 for a hot dog fries and a small fountain drink. But then again, the amount of food and the quality can’t be beat. I was disappointed in the fries however, and for the first time I think in my life I put salt on my fries. They were just that bland! I think also, they could have cleaned a little more. The tables were dirty, but while I was there, there was an employee cleaning the ketchup station. One last thing… This is not a place to go to if you are trying to impress someone. There is just no way of eating one of these hot dogs delicately. I REPEATPEOPLE, this is NOT a date night dining establishment! Having said that, you should definitely try it for lunch one of these days!

First off let me say, I am NOT a hotdog person. You will NEVER see my buy hotdogs at the grocery, or at any other restaurant for that matter. However, Spike’s is AMAZING. They have a crazy menu of combos you would never think of. Best off they are super filling. The dogs are huge and the bun is a grinder roll. Two of these and you’ll be stuffed! :)

I most remember Spike’s as the place that caused one the few heated debates I’ve had w/my bf, a native Rhode Islander. I had taken him on a Chicago foodie tour one year, and he was in heaven, swearing up and down that every single place I took him to was the BEST of this and that and whatever that he had ever had, with the noted exception of the Chicago Hot Dog. He not only said he didn’t like the Chicago Hot Dog(a wonder of invention), he told others to skip eating one altogether b/c he thought the steamed poppy seed bun resembled Wonder Bread(No.) and that the chargrilled to perfection 100% beef Vienna hot dog with the natural snap casing tasted just the same as any other hot dog(NO!) and that furthermore, he much preferred Spike’s mainly b/c of the bun. At that time, I was so disturbed and offended by his obvious lack of judgment that I almost broke up w/the guy right then and there, because holding that opinion of Chicago Hot Dogs in general pointed to a lowly character, a profound lack of taste, as well as possible mental illness. However, I stuck it out despite his crazy wrongheaded opinion and decided to give Spike’s another try after not having one in a few years. My take on Spike’s: 1. Spike’s hot dog tastes like a hot dog, but the casing lacks the pleasant snap of a Chicago Hot Dog 2. The bread to me is too bready, which makes the Spike’s dog not really a dog but more like a sausage sandwich not resembling a comparable ballpark hot dog. The bun tastes fine though, and definitely not Wonder Bread. 3. Spike’s overall tastes pretty good, though I’d prefer a more grilled flavor and more options for toppings. Also, ketchup on a hot dog is always wrong in my book, though I can’t dock Spike’s for that one. So, is Spike’s the best dog I’ve ever had? No. Is Spike’s good enough to satisfy a sudden pang for hot dogs? Yes. Will I come back? Sure why not. 3.5 for the food overall, rounded up to 4 b/c it doesn’t break the bank and the workers are nice. They do need to clean up the dining room a little better though.

Never has $ 20 gone this far for me at any non-fast food restaurant in New England! And the food was awesome. For my kids to sit still and eat in peace without trying to go and help the cook prepare food tells me they are doing something right! Simple hot dogs with different toppings to spice up the normal routine, chili with just enough pepper and cheese to soak but not drench my fries, and a SPIKEBEER to wash it down. Next time I am nearby I am going to do the 6 hot dogs in 1.5 hour challenge. Its a win for me, good food and my picture on the wall!!!
