Simply the best hot wieners in Rhode Island. I stop in three or four times a month, or whenever I drive by their billboard on route 10 which makes my mouth water(pictures of hot wieners 20 feet tall). The staff is always attentive and efficient no matter what time of the day or night. I always grab a window seat and watch the world go by. I’ve been taking my grandson here since he was 3, he’s 9 now and likes them«all the way». I’m a proud Papa. For me it’s tree all da way and a burnt fry.

Can you give a place just one star? Yes you can when the food is overrated, the restaurant dirty, and the staff downright apathetic. For some reason I keeping going back, hoping next time will be better, it has not been. The wieners are just not good. The dining area is gross and probably was wiped down in 2001, just once though. The food is overpriced, outrageous to serve wieners for close to $ 2.50 each. The staff working here have no volition. I have seen employees leave to sleep in their cars in the parking lot, @ least that’s what they grumbled as they walked out.

Delicious. Love the onion rings and usually follow it up with 2 all the way! The people working there are always super friendly. Might not be the healthiest but that’s not what I’m looking for when I walk in.

Employees are nice but have very bad hygiene and the dining area is beyond filthy. Food was just okay — I felt like the wieners themselves had been sitting all day long but they were tasty enough. Coffee milk was good. Probably not worth the risk of food poisoning though.

It’s an institution. An old school taste of RI. If you aren’t going there for ambiance or healthy dining, you will probably be satisfied. The place has not changed one bit(except getting more run down, I suppose) since I was a kid going there 30 years ago, and there’s a certain comfort in that while getting some RI comfort food. The staff are a sort of gruffly friendly sort, nice with just a little edge and a side of politics and the«oppression of the middle class» conversation while you wait for your food. It’s a local place and if you aren’t local, I could see it being slightly off-putting. But again, you aren’t there for the atmosphere. It’s all about the hot wieners. They are the best in RI. Get 2 – 3 and some nice, hot, crispy, greasy fries. For the full experience, make sure you get them«all the way»(with chopped onions) and a coffee milk.

Favorite late night spot! The woman who runs it is awesome too! Food is always delicious and comes out in the perfect amount of time. Don’t pass this place up the next time you’re heading home from the bar, club, casino, etc

It’s a «dirty» wiener joint. Decent New York System«gagga’s but, kinda nasty inside.

Sad to say this location has lost it for me. The fries are awful and the wieners are just OK. The Providence location is worth the ride. So much better! Plus the Cranston location is dirty inside, and the walls were filthy and disgusting. Sad!

I hate hot dogs… I have never understood the fascination with them. However, this places hot weiners are mind blowingly fantastic. I am thoroughly addicted to them. Yes, it may seem gruff inside but I don’t want the Ritz when I want fast food. The owners have an incredible franchise here that they should be expanding in the same manner as In and Out Burger!

Oh my… These guys have just lost it… these dogs were just nasty… the staff just sucks here also. i paid 40 bucks for 8 dogs and fries. these guys think that now that they were on food network. The building is falling apart but it is just nASTY… little bit of paint and better quality employees create better food.

As on outsider, this place seems like the sort of thing that drunk locals grew up on in high school and now love because it tastes like nostalgia and youth. That said, it wasn’t as bad as non-sausage-eating sister thought it looked. The onions and mustard sort of reminded me of what a Krystal burger tastes like. Seeing hot dogs that look cheaper than those served to me in the school cafeterias of my youth rolling around in a puddle of oil on the griddle is truly not appetizing. It’s also the case the food is wildly overpriced for what it is which, again, can only be attributed to the fact that the popularity outstrips the food itself. It was just under $ 10 for 2 hot dogs, a coffee milk, and fries. Also, the fries are soggy. Gross.

What’s not to love about a fattening food that tastes amazing even tho every bite you take you know is bad for you! Lol. If you travel to ri this is the place to try! It’s a tradition to eat this, especially if you were out late at a party! Great weiners as long as you eat here in moderation like once every 6 months!

This place looks like a whole in the wall and haven’t been updated inside since I was in high school I feel like 10−12yrs ago. Same yellow/brown color booth and stool feel in dining area. You order, grab your food(maybe a 3−5min wait) about 3feet down on counter and sit in area to eat. Wieners here have a good snap and cooked to perfection with that nice pink color. Saltiness just right and meat sauce not runny with good amount of chuck. The fries are nothing to write home about and rarely cooked all the way. Sometimes I put cheese sauce on them, why because I can’t have wieners without fries lol. Service is usually fast as the wieners are lined up on grill waiting for orders. Sometimes the guys line up their arms with a few. They always have some sort of deal like today 2 wieners, small fry and small drink for $ 8.99. I say overall everything was decent today but they are better maybe just an off day for them.

I grew up on wieners. That sounds dirty. But anyway, I had a friend visiting from the west coast so after taking her out on the town I brought her here for a typical RI wiener. I had never had them here before but had heard good things. These were so greasy that it was dripping out of the bag at the bottom. I was so hungry that I indeed got through 2. After handing out the rest we did realize that they shorted us one as well. The flavor of the wiener itself was off too. Not impressed. Woke up all night with the worst stomach ache. Maybe since I was the driver tonight, I was not drunk enough to enjoy you Olneyville. Never again.

I don’t eat wieners but I do eat grilled cheeses. They do a good job with them. They aren’t too greasy. They aren’t too cheesy. They are a little salty from the griddle. The staff is interesting. During my last visit two employees were yelling at each other and airing some personal business. One person was on the verge of being fired or quitting… Seemed like it could go either way. After a solid 5 minutes of arguing they took it out back… Which once outside the building I could still hear. Clearly this isn’t the most professional staff but then it’s a wiener place so I feel like the expectations aren’t too high to begin with.

As a whole, Olneyville is a 4-star stop, but this location in particular has 5 star customer service! And along with your weiner, order the burger… You will be happy you did! Inside, this Olneyville location is spacious with a retro vibe, and not in a trying too hard way. Oh, and the underdog here is their BURGER. Meaty, juicy, and cheap – around $ 3! Don’t get me wrong – I love a good weiner. But the burgers are underrated! Plus, the handful of times I’ve stopped at this Cranston location, I’ve received the sweetest customer service. Either friendly ladies who relate to my California/west coast homesickness(she was from Hawaii/has fam in CA) or nice men who asked us how our meal was after we ate and obviously had tons of pride in their food(as they should!).

Eating a hot weiner is a commitment. Its not an instantaneous purchase. You will not forget it. You will remember having it even if you are black out drunk at 2 in the morning. No one wakes up the morning after eating hot weiners going«did I?» because you KNOW you definitely did. I’ve had friends transport them in trunks of cars… refusing to let them spend a second on the main cabin. I went to an open house for a home and the realtors were outside eating them by the car at a distance that even Planned Parenthood protestors aren’t required to stay back at. Is the«morning after» taste worth it? Can one live with the smell that may saturate your very being for a solid 24 to 72 hours? You better believe it! When ordering don’t make any mistakes. It’s very simple. «3 all the way». I always get mine to go because theres some kind of magic that happens in that wax paper and white bag on the 4 minute drive home. The buns steam to a chewy goodness and the meat and onions condense to a solid mound over the weiner. The bag has port holes of transparent grease already soaked into it by the time you hit the parking lot. Another few minutes and the bag would be permisable to carry at a stadium event or even the Boston Marathon since its damn near see through. We can joke about how«disgusting» a gaggah is like we joke about how bad reality television is but deep down its a craving that must be met. So strap on your big boy pants… order 3 all the way, a small fry and a coffee milk and have at it! (note: I’ve had burgers from here and they are pretty righteous as well… nothing beats a flat top burger at 2am while you watch some girl snap her ankle while trying to negotiate a sidewalk in 8 inch heels she has NO business being in).

When contemplating eating a New York System hot wiener in the State of Rhode Island, it is most important to know where to go to get them because not all NY System hot wieners are created equal! I grew up in RI and spent my teenage years(my parents would not buy them for me when I was a child, but as soon as I had my own cash… it was a different story entirely) test-tasting them all over the State. I’ve had many hot wieners. But in all the hot wiener joints in all the cities and all the towns, you gotta walk into this one: Olneyville New York System Hot Wieners! The one that is actually located IN Olneyville is reputed to be the very very best — but I’ve only been to the one they own in Cranston on Reservoir Avenue. It is everything you could want in a hot wiener(or hot wienie, as some RI’ers like to call them) restaurant! It is clean(but not TOO clean), the guys that make the food are nice and playful in their conversation, they cook the fries to order and I like mine brown and crispy, so that’s exactly how they make mine. If you are reading this review, I assume you already know what a hot wiener is. But just in case you don’t, it is a short hot dog, cut from a long, long length of hot dog, so each side is chopped off at each end. Each dog is placed on a warm freshly steamed hot dog bun(slightly shorter than the norm) and slathered with a very special secret recipe sauce that appears to have finely minced cooked hamburger and spices in it — and if you want it ALLTHEWAY, there will be fresh raw finely chopped onions scattered on top and a really huge shake of celery salt. Extra flavor is reputed to be added from the sweat on the arms of the veteran wiener makers who would lay them out at least a dozen at a time from their forearm to their wrist cuz when you order hot wieners, no one gets just one. I get two and my friend gets three, and some guys I know get FIVE at a time. So for a group, you might be seeing the wiener chef with the wieners lined up all the way along his left arm, with the celery salt shaker in the right hand liberally sprinkling away! I really try to eat healthfully most of the time, but besides candy, these puppies are my #1 weakness, so you can bet I get them — well… every ONCE in a while! Olneyville N Y System(«the System») hot wieners are highly recommended — my favorite wienie joint to date, from the many, many, many wienie joints I have tried! So, as my friends at Slater Junior High School used to say back in the day, «hey — see ya afta school at da Siss-tum!!»
