The Chasm View Nature Trail is adjacent to the North Rim Campground — and a little ways past the North Rim Ranger Station. This trail is approximately 1⁄3 of a mile long — located at the end of the one-way campground loop. After a short distance, the trail breaks out of the Piñón/Juniper forest at the North Chasm View, some 1,800 feet above the river. Continuing near the rim, the trail reaches a second overlook with excellent views of Painted Wall and Serpent Point. I’m not a fan of heights — while there is a rail along the edge of the cliff where the trail follows the cliff side — it still is kind of scary. After the trail meanders away from the cliffside — I began to relax a bit. I stopped and grabbed pieces of Piñón, Juniper, and Sage — snapped them in half — and inhaled the pungent, fragrant aromas.
