Very nice and clean with friendly staff and phenomenal views. The bathrooms are not flush toilets. There are some pretty short hikes right from the visitors center.

The South Rim Visitor’s Center of the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park is a really neat place to visit. They carry a really nice selection of books on the area, including books on history, geology, wildlife, water, recreation, and a whole lot more. They also carry some touristy trinkets like stuffed animals and such. There are a number of interesting environmental interpretive exhibits, as well as a theater where one can watch a movie on the Park and it’s resources. Several National Park Service personnel were on hand working the Visitor’s Center during my visit — very friendly and helpful. I selected a soft cover book on the history of the area entitled: «The Ute Indians of Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico,» by Virginia McConnell Simmons. The Visitor’s Center does accept Visa and Mastercard. Great place to stop in and visit — check it out!
