Grew up in the area. For casual family events this place is great. Family own, basic cuisines, drinks are on point. All creates a great atmosphere. Recommend the sliced steak sandwich. 10⁄10 would recommend to a friend

Gone a few times to hang at the bar while waiting for our sons two hour wrestling practice to be over! The place is tucked away and The bar is cozy! They have daily great specials that always seems to include a suggestion on a nice wine too! However… Griffins Famous Slices Steak so good just try it! Bartender Don on Mondays is a super friendly cool guy too!

The place looks outdated on the inside and had a weird smell. The food was average and the service was slow. I probably wouldn’t go back.

Food can be good at times, especially the filet mignon tacos and fried calamari. The service leaves a lot to be desired. Nearly every time I am there the bar is full but the tables are empty. It seems that ownership has stopped trying to make it a success.

Very poor service last time I went here for dinner. Waited over 40 minutes for a table even though there were several empty tables large enough to accommodate my group in the other room. We waited another 15 minutes before a waitress came to the table to take our drink orders. The food took a long time to come out and was not as great as I expected it to be. The waitress seemed annoyed when we asked for our check immediately after being served, even though we told her more than once that we had a time constraint. It’s only redeeming quality is Friday night karaōke once a month. I’ll keep coming for karaōke but I doubt I’ll come for dinner again.

Reviews are spot on re: sliced steak sandwich, hanger steak, sole francese and zucchini fries. Friendly service in an outdoor setting along with Radeberger draft makes this place a winner in my book. only suggestion is to add string lights around the patio. Highly recommended.

Might have been the best fried calamari I’ve ever had(my two companions agreed). So tender, not even one tough one, in a nice light and tasty crust. Sliced steak was served over garlic bread and I didn’t stop until the plate was empty. Oddly, they brought the side salad with the main meal(the salad plate actually sat on the dinner plate). Service was slow; they seem to be down a server, but our waitress was friendly and accommodating. A new favorite for us!

Wish it were better, went twice. Food is nothing to write home about. There are far better alternatives. The salads are borderline, the hamburgers are nothing special. No compelling reason to come back.

My husband and I have been there several times and the food can be so so depending on what you order. I ordered a burger and asked for it to be medium rare and sent it back and the second burger came back the same and was over cooked. My husband orders the sliced steak and is happy with his order each time. Service is good. Dinner can be noisy if there is a big bar crowd.

Like some other reviews here, I have to make mention of the poor service and«so so» food. Arrived with my family and stood waiting to be seated for a real long time. Finally we get seated and we wait another eternity for menus. After another eternity someone finally comes back to our table with the intention to take our order — apparently no one was going to ask us if we wanted a drink order first, so I asked. When I inquired what beer was on tap, she told me to walk over to the bar and look! Strike One. So we get our food and I would describe everything with the exception of my Salmon as mediocre. My Salmon was overcooked, dry and had a strong fishy taste. Strike two. I would have mentioned my dissapointment with the Salmon, that is, if I had someone to actually tell that too — our server was absentee our entire meal. We would have ordered Dessert had someone came back, but that was not in the cards tonight. Finally, I got up and tracked the server down and asked for our check. Strike Three. JB

I have been back here, twice this trip and both times…“really good”. Service was great. I ate the steak sandwich which was perfect, second time the sole francese, perfect. Starter salad was with spinach, brie, apples and walnuts… perfect vinagrette. I am a fan.

I was looking for places to provide entertainment. I’ve never read so many discouraging reviews about a place. Fail. Don’t think I would WANT to work at this place.

Griffins is a great place. Went here a few times when it was the Roadhouse and it was terrrible. These owners have figured it out. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The bartender was funny and entertaining. Watched a Yankee game here and had a great time. Will go back!

Griffin’s serves excellent food and excellent drinks. I enjoyed there both regular menu items and specials, from a bar burger or a club sandwich to sword fish or pork chops, the food is just great. If you’re lucky and they serve corned beef that day, don’t miss it! You’ll enjoy the food, the atmosphere and the full bar. I highly recommend.

My relatives have been going to Griffins for years, but I had not been until a couple of weeks ago. I ate at a cozy booth in the bar area. Right away, I appreciated the ambiance. My mom and brother always get the steak sandwich. I didn’t try, because I don’t eat red meat, but the portion was huge. I had the pizza, which was fantastic. Super thin crust, right amount of greasiness, right amount of flavor. I just wish they offered more toppings. The servers were friendly, beer/wine selection was broader than I expected, and the prices were moderate(having a coupon helped). The food was good, and I think it presents a solid casual alternative to the glut of chain restaurants and diners in Bergen County. Note: there’s also a dining room, a bit more formal looking, separate from the bar, so Griffins has two separate atmospheres for whatever mood you’re in.

Been here a couple times and it seems to get worse and worse. Last week was my final visit. What’s the gripe Tony? Glad you asked. Walked in with a couple people on a Tuesday. There is 1 person at the bar and 1 table of 2 people. We sit down and place our order(soup as an appetizer, Kobe burger medium rare, steak sandwich, grilled cheese with bacon and tomato). Get up to use the restroom and the bartender is just staring at me without a smile or anything. Okay, creepy and a little rude. Cheer up buddy! Waiting and waiting for the soup to come but does not until our entrees are served. Um, this was an appetizer, not a side dish. Waiter plops our plates down and is trying to scurry away. I call out for him and explained that my Kobe burger was suppose to come with bacon and a couple other things. It was just lettuce, bun, and burger. I paid like $ 3 extra for bacon. So he says he will get it right away. He comes back one final time to bring the check. So no bacon but he was nice enough to include it on my bill. Thanks! The Kobe burger was gross. Medium rare was absent but pale gray throughout was constant. It was frozen first and not fresh at all. The grilled cheese was only partially cooked so it was cold in some spots. My friend, who literally eats everything, could not take more than two bites because it was disgusting. The famous steak sandwich was nothing to write home about for $ 15– well maybe that the bread was a soggy mushy mess before it even arrived. But at least the soup was okay! So as I mentioned, the waiter was no where to be found throughout the whole meal, which is strange because there was only 3 other people in the entire place. No refills, no bacon, no ‘how is everything?’. He shows up with the check and stands there until I sign it. Are you kidding me? You are no where to be found, there is no one in your place and now you are rushing me to sign the bill? Experience from hell.

Much better than your average«local» spot! My boyfriend and I are the types that will travel anywhere for food, but when we want good local food at a fair price, we go to Griffins. Good food with nice portions and friendly wait staff. Definitely try the Kobe burger. It is so good that I have trouble trying other things. Lively bar crowd on the weekends but has a nice quiet dining room on the other side if you don’t want the chatter.

Good food with large portions. The sole franchaise was my favorite. The restaurant was dark but a good place for friends and families to come and sit in a corner by themselves.

Disappointing to say the least. I’ve been here a couple of times, and each time I go it seems like the people forgot to take their anti-depressant meds or something. What a downer! The bartenders greet you with barely a smirk on their faces. I asked the bartender for a beer, and without even giving it much thought, she poured me the wrong beer because the keg was switched out to a different beer. If you’re working behind a bar, know your beer and booze. The food is average at best. The place had a nasty dank smell to it, like cleaning products and mold put together… gross! Cheer up people, it’s 2012, the end is near. It’ll all be over soon. Hahaha Best part about this place is its a Giants bar.

I wanted to like Griffins more than I wound up liking it. Pub on one side, dining room on the other, beamed ceiling, fireplace, very nice space. A fairly traditional, non-threatening menu. The appetizers were all around very good. The blue point oysters were FANTASTIC — they have an excellent supplier. Huge, meaty, sparking fresh. Fried zucchini was excellent, and so were the dumplings. Entrees were sort of uninspired. My wife didn’t like her sole very much at all. The other choices all seemed… fine. Nothing to write home about, but nothing that was bad, either. The meal certainly wasn’t bad, but I think I would describe the food as unmemorable. Service was basic — unoffensive but not especially polished either.
