Best restaurant in Crested Butte. Not my words but words from locals who have tried enough local places to know this is the best. All I know is that I throughly enjoyed my meal. We had the escargot, short rib, lamb rack, and a banana tarte tatin for dessert. Later in the meal, we were told the escargot and lamb rack are always on the menu, so I think our ordering game was top notch. Friendly service, great food, we would definitley come back next time we come to Crested Butte. It is expensive but am willing to pay for it.

We were able to snag a last minute reservation here on New Year’s Day. So grateful that another couple had cancelled because this was quite possibly the best meal I’ve ever had. The service was perfectly balanced, respectful, and timely. Atmosphere was absolutely adorable — the house is just as cute as mentioned in the directions listed on their website. Food was unbeatable, hands down delicious! Started with the soup and salad, split the elk, and finished with crème brûlée and decaf French press. Soupçon was the highlight of my trip to Crested Butte. 10 stars.

From start to finish, Soupçon was amazing. Dan, our server, perfectly executed our dining experience. He was funny, knowledgeable, patient with our kids-quite frankly one of the best in his profession I’ve ever seen. He thoughtfully described menu items. When we had decided what we wanted to eat, we asked him to select a bottle of wine for us. He returned with a beautiful bottle of Spanish wine, 100% Tempranillo. It was perfect. Chef Jason brought out a delicious pork belly amusè. My son actually ate them all, and he’s usually such a picky eater. For starters, my husband had the Foie Gras-gorgeous and perfectly prepared. I had the Gumbo. I hardly ever order Gumbo in restaurants, but had a feeling this dish would be good at Soupçon. It was hands down the best Gumbo I’ve ever had. Our entrees were works of art both visually and taste wise. We were practically in tears over how special the food was. I’ll never forget taking bites of my steak, dipping my fork into the porcini mushroom powder. For dessert, I was eyeballing the crème brûlée, but ordered a chocolate dessert for my daughters sake. My husband ordered the soufflé. Dan went ahead and brought me a crème brûlée anyway. How could I say no. From the quaint cabin dining room, to Chef Jason thoughtfully answering my questions about how to make the perfect gumbo– to Dan’s charming and wonderful service, we were just blown away. I spent many years working in fine dining in San Francisco, and I must say, this is one of the very best, elegant dining experiences I’ve ever had. World class! We will go back one day for sure.

This was our 3rd and best visit to Soupçon. Chef Jason wasn’t there, so much of our praise goes to this evening’s sous chef, but regardless, this meal was incroyable. Braised veal cheeks, scallops, calotte de boeuf, elk tenderloin, and an insane fois gras dessert —- all were astonishing. Add the impeccable service(thank you Dan!) and great wine and great company; this was a five-star experience sans doute.

I am probably a San Francisco food snob and as a result this is biased. For being in a small town, it was good, but overall I didn’t think it was worth the cost. Very expensive food and frankly not overly inventive. The menu is limited too, meaning there isn’t much on it.

Jason and his crew have outdone themselves — again! Their Saturday night tasting menu offered six superb courses, gloriously presented and delectable beyond belief. The stuffed quail and the kobia were particular highlights. The service: impeccable. The setting: delightful. We’ve never been disappointed!

We were so excited to try this restaurant since I saw so many great reviews about this place . The service was very good but The food actually was not all that and way over-priced. The only decent plate was foie gras, my elk tenderloin and my husband’s beef bourguignon were so so. Just Pan-seared with sauce on top. My elk tenderloin was tasteless because it wasn’t marinaded well. Overall Its not too terrible but not excellent either. After feeling so disappointed about the food, We ordered dessert hoping it would make up for it, but the grand marnier soufflé was too sweet like you were eating raw sugar. I didn’t taste grand marnier by the way… Our meal was over $ 200 and it was sure NOT the best.

Tiny Restaurant. Cozy. Reservations Required. Call Ahead to Confirm Menu Options(if you are looking for something specific like we were). Soupçon has a reputation around town and on the web. Naturally, we had to plan an outing to this establishment at least once during our honeymoon vacation. Many locals encouraged us to make a trip to this restaurant while visiting Crested Butte, Colorado. Upon initial arrival to the restaurant, our first impression was that the place was very cozy and cute. There was a little light on in a dark alleyway and a decorated entrance. I’ve heard that France is filled with small, hole-in-the-wall places and that even the hotels and elevators can appear cramped compared to what can be found in the U.S.A. — I suppose this was a great portrayal of the sort of experience one may find when visiting the country itself. The restaurant is located in a small house with just space enough for about 10 – 15 tables. Half of the house was devoted to the kitchen and bathroom areas and the other half for customer dining areas. Going in, I had high expectations for this place considering it was supposed to be number one in CB. The cuisine is hearty and delicious(perfect for the cold weather climate!). The bread was fresh and warm when served to the table — butter was ice cold and I preferred it to come to temperature before eating. We were not disappointed in our food choices: braised lamb and veggies and whole quail stuffed with foie gras and sweet potatoes. Everything was perfectly balanced(flavorful sauces/gravies to enhance the meat and the vegetables/starches were subtle as they complemented the overall entrée). Definitely a 5-star meal. We did however, check the menu online prior to arriving and expected to be able to order the Elk Tenderloin and to our dismay could not(as it was no longer being offered). Since we are traveling from Miami(and do not typically have access to a lot of the game meats found in other regions of the U.S.A.), it was quite the treat to be able to order Elk, Boar, and Venison throughout our trip. We hoped to have experienced the Elk Tenderloin(basically the filet mignon of game meat) at the highest ranked restaurant in Crested Butte. Unfortunately, we will have to save this for another visit. The rating I gave the restaurant lost 1-star due to the poor attitude we encountered from the waitstaff(particularly our main server). The server was not cordial and did not take an interest in offering any recommendations or small-talk. This negatively affected our time at Soupçon as I do believe service is a critical component to a 5-star dining experience.

This quaint eight table restaurant serves up some of the finest French cuisine in North America. Chef Jason is a master at his trade and I’m quite sure he could be a James Beard nominee if he lived in a larger city. His quaint restaurant fills up night after night with locals and tourists alike. With impeccable service and an exquisite menu, you’re sure to enjoy every last bite. The menu changes seasonally, but you’ll find a range of menu offerings from Seared Foie Gras to Colorado Filet Mignon with proscuitto wrapped asparagus and Brined Double Cut Pork Chop. And regardless of what you order or how stuffed you feel, do not skip dessert. Order the espresso soufflé and all your cares will melt away. Soupçon is a must try spot if you ever find yourself in Crested Butte.

This is a small reservation needed special occasion type place. I have been coming here for years and they always have an amazing chef. I even came for thanksgiving one year and had a blast. It’s expensive but that’s why we come when its special

Absolutely amazing. The food is extraordinary — the wine select and knowledge is phenomenal. I cannot say enough about the service. Be sure to make a reservation, Soupçon is small and provides a very intimate dining experience. The meal is worth every cent.

One of the best, most romantic and memorable dinners of my life! Everything here is perfect. Never rushed, never intimidating and always delicious. I’m not a big red meat eater, but the elk tenderloin is not to be overlooked. How often are you in the middle of a beautiful mountain town eating world class cuisine in a 2 room mining cabin? This place sets its own standard.

Top grade French restaurant. Superb service and creative cuisine. The chef is a character and he comes out to chat after you’ve eaten. He took our picture for us. You’ll spend some money here but feel like it was well spent afterwards. Go at least once!

One of the best meals of my life. Everything about this place is perfection and you’ve already been reading this for too long. Book a reservation and just go. There’s nothing like experience and the food here is Heaven on Earth. It’s been two weeks and I’m still thinking about it. Go, now!

The best meal I’ve had in Crested Butte, also the most expensive. In this case we got what we paid for. Our Saturday night dinner was at 6pm, when making reservations I discovered that they only offer two seating times 6pm &8:15pm, which was new to me but no big deal. I had the Elk tenderloin and It was to die for. I can’t think of a single thing that wasn’t ideal, food, service, everything was just great. If anybody has the 1982 Burgundy let me know how it was, @ $ 20k a bottle we decided to pass. I look forward to our next dinner there.

This unexpected gem is tucked away in an historic building in «downtown» Crested Butte and provides exactly the kind of dining experience that turns a ski trip into an outstanding, memorable vacation.(OK, so it was *lot* pricier than a burrito/beer dinner… but –we’re on vacation, right?) The salmon/blini/caviar appetizer was artfully presented and offered an interesting range of tastes, including traditional accessories — eggs, shallots, and chives. The crispy seared duck entrée was done just right. A touch of apricot in the demi-glacé complemented without dominating the flavors. A crème brûlée for dessert was perfect in every way. The knowledgeable and friendly staff enabled our table of four to relax with the finest food, wine, and conversation. Chef Jason clearly takes tremendous pride in creating a perfect experience. Avoid disappointment by making a reservation well in advance as Soupçon is a small restaurant and offers fixed seating times. Looking forward to our next visit!

I took my wife to Crested Butte for her 31st birthday and had planned to surprise her with a birthday dinner at Soupçon. A month or so in advance I personally spoke with someone at Soupçon and made the reservation over the phone. We arrive that night for dinner only to find the restaurant closed and a message on their voice mail stating that they decided to close early for the season and would be reopening after Thanksgiving. While I understand the decision to close early due to lack of customers, they could have at least had the decency to call and give me notice so I could have made other arrangements. Instead, I was left standing in a cold, dark parking lot apologizing to my wife for a surprise birthday dinner that was not to be…

This place was great. The servers were all very polite and professional. I had the braised short rib and it was perfect. My wife had the lamb which was equally great. Didn’t care for the cheese cake however. But that wouldn’t deter me from coming again. Fantastic place with a great staff!

Hands down the best«service» ever received. 5 stars for the waiter. The rest was pretty average, except for the prices. Mussells were on the average side and not very inspired. Lamb was okay, the sauces were not that great considering being on a French menu. The place is really cute(and small) you have to enter through the alley off of the street which is quaint.
