Sleepy Hollow Cabins and Hotel

Stayed here with my boyfriend over the weekend for Valentine’s Day. This review is for a hotel room, not a cabin. Our hotel room was located on the second floor. I really like how nice and clean these rooms were. I give it 4 stars because my boyfriend purchased the romance package which included a bouquet of flowers, tea light candles, 2 fire burning gel cans, a box of chocolates, and a bottle of champagne. The package was nice but the bouquet of flowers we were given were carnations. The flowers on their website isn’t what they show. The tv is mounted on the wall with plenty of space to put a good size tv but a 32′ tv was mounted on there. Tv size is small especially since we stayed in a deluxe king with double bed. The hotel room also doesn’t have an ice maker which was difficult to drink an icy cold beverage. They do have a tiny ice cube tray that’s in the freezer but who wants to wait for it to freeze? Besides that the hotel is a great place to stay.

I’m not normally picky where I stay but do like to share my experience with others. This is one review I didn’t want to waste sharing.
When I got to the cabin I was pretty amazed. The cozy cabin was really nice inside and the people were friendly. Already this place rated 5 stars in my book. With an added bonus, the security deposit for my service dog was only $ 100.
The first night was really good. Everything was working well, there weren’t any loud noises out side so still 5 stars.
The next day my husband and I went a few stores down the road to get a facial and a pedicure. When we got back there was a lady who came up to us and asked us to see my dog who was inside the cabin. We showed her him and she commented on how beautiful he was. Still 5 stars.
We go inside and not even 2 minutes later, another woman had come up to the cabin and very rudely told us that we could not leave my dog alone in the cabin and that its stated in the paperwork that if we do then we were going to be fined $ 200. She then went on to say that if he was a service dog then he should be with me. She then asked me what made me need a service dog. I calmly told her that he only needs to be with me when I’m the one that is driving and I have paperwork from my doctors stating that fact. I know that I didn’t need to explain to her my disability but I was being attacked on why I needed a service dog. Normally I would only drop 1 star but that required 2 stars. So we are down to 3 stars now.
5 minutes later we get another knock at the door. It’s people that works there and they wanted to come in and take down Christmas decorations. In my eyes, that is something that should be done prior to someone occupying a place. Still 3 stars.
When we go to leave to head out for the day, we stop at the office and checked the paperwork to really see if there said anything in the contract about a $ 200 fine for leaving an animal in the cabin alone and there was nothing in there that stated that! I was furious because the lady that came to the cabin earlier that day said that it was written in the paperwork that we signed and it was not. The gentlemen said that he would get with her about it. For me that is another star gone so now we are at 2 stars.
Later on that night we had wanted to start a fire. We went step by step on starting a fire per their guidance. We made sure the vent was open and only used 2 logs at a time. When the fire was finally started and burning at a nice rate we noticed that the smoke was coming down and into the cottage. We couldn’t understand because we made sure that we opened the vent. We spent the next hour trying to clear out all the smoke in the cabin by turning on the fan and opening the doors and windows. We did end up stopping the fire and turned on the heat. With that I had taken another star away leaving the place with 1 star at this point.
By the time it was time for bed, all the smoke was gone and everything was shut but it was still really cold in the cabin. Here the heater stopped working. We tried everything to get it to work but still nothing. It was 51 degrees in the cabin when we went to bed and 47 degrees when we woke up. We were not happy. We had called the office about the chimney earlier that night and about the heater but the office was closed so with that, we had a rough nights sleep. If I could take away a star but Unilocal requires you to at least give 1 star.
The parking here is very limited and if you have a truck then parking can be very rough.
I hope that other people’s time here is more pleasant than ours because it was a nightmare.

I needed some rest and relaxation and found it here at Sleepy Hollow Cabins. We stayed in the Gray Squirrel and yes it’s small but it’s perfect for two people. We both fit very comfortably and even took advantage of the small deck off the bedroom. We had a roaring fire every night and just relaxed. I wish I didn’t have to go home. We had an earthquake last night and one of the managers even came out to check on us. Great little place.

Nothing like the photos… pics makes the cabins look huge and they actually quite small, not very much parking, no bbqs as they claim they have, the heaters don’t work very well and it’s about 200 a night!!! Highway robbery if you ask me! I could get a suite with a hot tub in it for that price…

Pictures on their website make rooms look much bigger then actually are. Cabins are in the middle of the hotel and not cozy or private at all. They mention BBQ behind cabins, but there is only two BBQ places and not behind, you must walk a maze to get to a GAS barbecue and they would not allow us to use our own grill we brought.
They had yellow tape around our cabin and it made it look even less inviting and more like a crime seen. See my pictures, am I right? Other picture showing behind the cabin where BBQ supposed to be,. More yellow tape and about it. One room heat did not work and we rented two «cabins» for two couples, asked for a refund after only about an hour of trying to get used to our new situation and they still charged us 200.00
That’s two hundred for less then one hour of us spending on their property!!!
Rooms are small, owner not so friendly when it comes to refunding to customers that are not happy and cabins are TINY.
We rented a huge home for the SAME cost these two small cabins just a bit down the road towards the big Bear. Look for a Home for rent before you book at sleepy hollow cabins who don’t care about customer satisfaction and will charge you for driving in.

Great stay, clean comfortable room, great location, definitely will stay there again.

A nice family hotel. Located within a few blocks from Lake Gregory. I would stay here again.

Stayed here while on location with a film … Very clean and cozy rooms. The staff was very nice and even worked with our crazy hours when it came to cleaning our rooms. It was so nice to be able to walk to everything!

Just a beautiful place… Newly remodeled rooms. Excellent staff from Carl at the front desk down to the maid service all very kind friendly and helpful. Perfectly located to tons of nice places to eat. Loved our stay and look forward to going back

We visited first time in Lake Gregory and happy to rent Sleepy Hollow Cabins and Hotel. The room was very clean and neat. We enjoyed the stay and also went walking around Lake Gregory. I would recommend to my friends and family.

Location:
I didn’t know how good this spot is until we walked to the lake. We were told it was «about 100 yards away». We couldn’t see it. So they were exaggerating, right? Wrong. It’s a 1 – 2 minute walk away. In early November, it’s a beautiful 50 – 60 degrees outside and perfect for a stroll around the lake! The locals are helpful and polite. Plus, everyone seems to have a husky!
The cottages are also easy to spot off the (only) road that cuts through town. You can’t miss it coming up the mountain. Parking was plentiful and good planning made sure that there was an overflow, which might be used only during the peak season (s).
Check-​in:
No hassle. We signed some stuff, filled out our car and reservation details, and were given keys. We even came more than an hour early and they checked us in without additional charges :)
Accommodations:
Very good. There was an odd smell of Lysol, which went away after a few hours. It was likely because the room was freshly scrubbed (we checked in over an hour early). Bathroom was very clean. Carpets were spotless. Lots of towels. They even left the heater on so it was nice and cozy by the time we checked in.
Wifi was a solid 6 mbps. This is enough to stream HD. Fair warning: you’re in the mountains and if all the rooms are on the wifi, there will be interruptions! Though these small gaps in internet connection can be easily remedied by hopping between the 4 wifi channels they have :) I would NOT recommend coming here if you have an online class or have large files to download for work. Besides, you shouldn’t be doing homework or any kind of work while on vacation anyway!
Pro tips:
1. Bring running shoes. You definitely WANT to do a loop or two around Lake Gregory. It’s gorgeous, especially in the fall and winter.
2. Walk around town. The restaurants are affordable and serve all kinds of delicious foods. Showing your room key will net you 10−15% off your check, too :)
3. Don’t bring your kids if you can avoid it. This is a perfect place for some R&R. But I don’t think most children enjoy the high altitude and quiet environment. There were a few families rooming next to us and we overheard the many, many noisy complaints about «being bored»

We’ve been coming here for years and we always enjoy our stay. Trina is the nicest person in Crestline, and because of her, we ended up buying a house there. I read all of the reviews on Unilocal about Sleepy Hollow. The only people who wrote a bad review, were the people who broke all the rules, and then wanted a full refund. I am so glad we never ran into people like that. Too bad there’s not a way for me to give them a bad review. Anywho, Sleepy Hollow is the only place for us to stay in the mountains! If everyone was as nice as Trina, the world would be a better place.

Went here for the night as a spur of the moment «adventure» with my husband and two small children. The customer service was so wonderful! They were so nice and even upgraded our room for free when we got there! The room was very clean and so quaint. Definitely a great room for the «mountain feel.» It was also in a great location and we walked to and from a restaurant we went to for dinner.
My only complaint would be the bed. Both my husband and I woke up feeling like we didn’t get a great sleep because the bed was not very comfortable at all. Both of our backs were very sore the day after.
We would stay here again but we would bring some kind of mattress pad or extra blankets to lay on!

Had a great time here bee stayed in the Pine Hut cabin and it was very nice. The I my hing that would have been better is that it needed either a/​c in the bedroom or a ceiling fan. It was hot!!! No air circulation in there. The front room of the cabin got very cool tho. Friendly staff and clean cabins. And only about a 5 minute walk to Lake Gregory. We wil be back for sure!

Too expensive. Only stayed here because I was at a wedding. It’s a motel on the main drag/​road in town. Room was clean and nice but still paid far too much. $ 189 for one night in mid-​June. Would not go back. Would not stay here unless it was much much cheaper.

Used a Groupon for a 2 day weekday May stay. First off, if you book full price with them, you get to choose which cabin you want. If you use a voucher like Groupon, you cannot reserve what you want and you only get what is available on the day of. Secondly, the property is right on the highway and is not the relaxing haven depicted on the website. Some of the cabins are very noisy as a result (like ours), though a few in the back of the property are probably quiet. Thirdly, they advertise wood burning fireplaces, but they do not give you any firewood. Fourthly, you should expect to sleep on the couch in any room that features a «memory foam mattress top»…it is terrible. My pregnant wife could not get herself out of the 6 inch crater she found herself in.
The biggest problem with our stay was the dishonest, inflexible staff member we dealt with. We arrived and were greeted by a very friendly young man at the front desk. When given our «Pine Hut» cabin, which is about 30 feet from the highway, we were alarmed by the noise. Being a mountain highway, there are a lot of trucks and loud vehicles that vibrate every room. We asked the young man about switching rooms. He was a little standoffish but still friendly about switching a room, and assured us that it becomes a ghost town at 6pm and it does not pick up again until 8 or 9am. He did say that if it remains an issue we can look into making a change. By 8pm the traffic was less but hardly a ghost town. The young man who made the promise was gone for the day, and so we figured we would try it for one night. After a terrible night’s rest on the futon (the bed was awful), the truck traffic picked up sharply at 6am. We went to talk to the young man when the office opened and told them about how his times we quite off and how terrible the night was. He informed us that he only had one cabin available tonight. According to their website (checked right before we went to the office), they had several other cabins available… but we went along with his story. He showed us the 2 bedroom «Lazy Owl» cabin and it was very nice and quiet. He then told us that the cabin was $ 165, which is about how much the website said it was for that night. So I asked him how much we would have to spend (figuring we would get credit for the second night we already paid for from our other room). He seemed confused. He said that the room is normally $ 299 and after credit from our other room, would have to pay $ 165 extra. At that point I called him out on the different information on their website. The claim he stuck to was that the website doesn’t always update to the current information. That may explain the available rooms (though we ended up seeing plenty of empty cabins that night), but not the price gouging. Not only was he not accommodating, but he lied to our face more than once. Wow.
We ended up staying in our noisy cabin one more night. My conclusion is that if you book what you want, and don’t end up having any issues, you should have a 5 star experience as the rooms are as nice as depicted on the website. If however you have any issues or any special requests and have to deal with the staff, expect a 1 star experience.

My husband and I decided at the last minute on a Saturday afternoon that we «needed» fresh air and decided to head to the mountains from Los Angeles. I quickly booked a room at Sleepy Hollow Cabins & Hotel.
We’ve been looking for our «go to» getaway hotel/cabin/BnB…somewhere we can visit every month or so to recharge our batteries. I love being spontaneous and having adventures… but this didn’t work out to be so magical.
My first mistake was booking the wrong date on the hotels website. I mistakenly booked for Sunday rather than Saturday. So when we arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night we were greeted with a huge price difference! I know, I know it’s my fault. However, I wish things would have been handled friendlier. The desk attendant spent zero time welcoming us and most of his time explaining what rooms/​cabins we COULDN“T have and all the things we COULDN“T DO along with describing all the amenities that were no longer avail to us… BBQ, hot tub, pool, no pets…

Saturday night room $ 145 (2 night stay, but if you are only staying for 1 night you pay $ 165)
EXTRA BILLS that could have been «overlooked» during our very first stay at this «hotel»:
$ 20 for booking only one night
$ 8 for flames for your fireplace– you have to buy 2 gel cans at the desk… otherwise no fire!
$ 10 for late check out. Check out was 11AM… we had to pay $ 10 extra dollars to stay till noon for the «extra» hour.
If our final bill had been adjusted… we would have found our oasis away from the city and booked our next stay before we had a chance to leave our first… Instead, they will need to continue to do the whole GROUPON thing to TRY for repeat business. P. S. SOOOO wish I had seen them on GROUPON… it would have instantly warned me that something must be wrong… and saved me a few bucks in the end.
The room was nice enough. New bedding and flooring. The complimentary toiletries were very low grade.
Interaction was mostly negative and snobby. «Yeah, I wish I could help you out… but we can’t…(snobby smile).
We will visit Crestline again… but we won’t be patronizing Sleep Hollow… sure to be a ghost town very soon if they don’t change their ways.

My husband and I stayed at Sleepy Hollow Cabins for a second time this weekend. We rented a single room the last time, and opted for a private cabin this time around (grey squirrel). We couldn’t be more impressed with the customer service and cleanliness of these cabins. They are so cozy! We also bought discounted snow valley lift tickets through the cabins which saved us money and helped us avoid the lines. Keep in mind though these cabins are in Crestline and both snow valley and big bear are a bit of a drive. We couldn’t be more impressed with these cozy affordable cabins and recommend to all in the area. And can’t beat free wifi — no restrictions!

I stumbled across the Sleepy Hollow cabins by accident and I’m so happy I ended up making reservations. We stayed in the «Lazy Owl» cabin, which has a full kitchen (including pots/​pans, plates, cups, utensils), a full bath, and two bedrooms (one king bed and one full bed). The cabin is equipped with a t.v., DVD player, and a wood burning fireplace. Sleepy Hollow has parking, a pool and spa, and gas burning grill on site. The owners are very friendly and accommodating, and were more than willing to answer questions. In fact, Trina (the owner) made it a point to walk clean BBQ utensils over to our cabin after I called to inquire about the grill.
Aside from the cabins, there’s lots to do in Crestline. There is a bowling alley next door and shops (including a grocery store) within walking distance. Lake Gregory is also a few minutes away.
Overall, I had a great time at Sleepy Hollow and would highly recommend staying there.
