Yankee Lounge Canteen located in Bass Lake Road is now closed, I wasn’t surprised because when they used to be open, I had eaten there some few times and I seemed to be the only customer they serve, their selection was not very much, and their food prices were steep, don’t let the name fool you, this was an ethnic African restaurant that specialized on Nigerian dishes.

I drove by this place 3 times before I actually made the stop. I had high hopes in getting the great African meal I have been searching for. I walked in, there was 2 men eating in the place. The lady in the back asked me to give her a minute. No biggie so I waited. After a while she came and took my order. I ordered the Dodo(plantain) with jollof rice and chicken. I waited for my order it took a little while, I assumed because ot was being made to order. She brought it to me I paid, thanked her and left. I got home ready to dig in… smh. I was very disappointed in what was before me. The rice tasted like rice a roni from a box with added seasoning, the plantains was good, but the CHICKEN… it was like an after thought. It was SO dry! Like it was made some days ago and then thrown in some sauce or seasoning. When I say it was hard I mean it was crazy tough. The only time I seen chicken like that was when my kids leave the chicken from dinner on the table and it sits a LONG time. I couldn’t eat it. It turned me off. For the meal costing my $ 12.00 all i got out of it was plantain and rice a roni African style. I really wonder how they did not notice the state of the chicken? I am not sure at all about going back.
