The Compound Salon

I just had an appointment with Amber, at The Compound, and it was the best salon experience I’ve had. Usually when it comes to my hair, I’m not too fussy and will get a basic trims and home coloring kits. The last coloring kit I had tho, I got a bit wild and did an all over blue/​green ombré color. After 2 months of fading and roots starting to show, I knew it would take a professional to fix it.
Amber worked tirelessly for almost 7 hours, lifting the blue out and getting my hair to one uniform color, before adding in some gorgeous highlights. She let me know each step she was doing and why, while also making sure it wasn’t too harsh on my hair. All the products she used smelled great, and no strong chemicals that made my scalp feel like it was on fire. I couldn’t be more pleased with the end result. Amber was a true miracle worker!
The salon itself is clean and welcoming. There’s plenty of seating if kids or friends are with you. All of the staff is friendly and keen on making sure you’re taken care of, offering snacks and drinks. I will definitely be returning in the future!

If you’re looking for a stylist on the west side, go see Amber! She’s amazing. I tried two other salons in Santa Monica and had two of the worst haircuts in my entire life. One left me crying for months. I found Amber through a friend and she saved my hair. She started me with a color and conditioning routine and knew how to cut my hair in a way that blended the terrible layers another stylist gave me. Now I see her everything 3 months or so and wouldn’t have it any other way!

I had my hair cut by Amber! The salon was very welcoming. Refreshments were great and the atmosphere is bright and artistic! I have long hair & I only get my hair cut a couple or few times a year. She was so sweet to work with and she thought of a way to adjust my previous cut to frame my face better. Couldn’t be happier with the results!:) Easy parking too!

I have been seeing Jason for more than a year now and I LOVE him. He gave me the most amazing pixie cut, rescuing me from a chop job bob I had done elsewhere, and he has been amazing through all the touch ups and cuts between then and now. I tell everyone to go here, and now my husband sees him too! Best salon I’ve ever been to.

First salon I went to in LA and it was wonderful. They offered me something to drink right when I walked in, and they had more choices than just water and coffee. The decorations and ambience were perfect. Amber gave me probably the best haircut I’ve ever had, and not only did she style it, but she taught me how to recreate the style. She was great conversation and just did an amazing job! ¹⁰⁄₁₀ will go back.

The Compound is super stylish and fun just like my favorite hair stylist, Kylene! Kylene is so amazing, creative, and talented and I love coming to get my hair done by her. She is super sweet and accommodating and gives wonderful insight and advice. Kylene has been my stylist for years and I’ve had so many different cuts and color done by her and she ALWAYS makes my hair look and feel great!

I was looking for a new spot to get a haircut and stumbled upon The Compound. Really cool spot and Amber did an amazing job on my curls. Highly recommend.

Kylene does the best blow outs ever and I have had a lot of them. She is also fantastic with color and cuts. I’ve been with her for the past 4 or 5 years and can’t imagine straying. Her new home at Compound Salon is fun, edgy and surprisingly comfy.

Cannot be more excited about The Compound. Followed my girl here because well, I’m loyal and I absolutely LOVE her. She’s talented, big-​hearted, talented, great mix of cool and chill and creative… and talented. She’s so incredibly nice and always, always, always works with you no matter how much you cannot explain the «change» you need! She’s so patient with me. And talented. Did I say that? She’s joined The Compound that seems to be an awesome team of stylists that match her fun personality!
Such a cool, lofty, artsy, relaxed ambiance the moment you walk in. Whether you’re here for few a few minutes or few hours, you get the same super friendly service. They take care of you here! Think «Cheers» but with some style. :)
Each stylist is works independently. But you would not guess that any time you come here. They are one family of artists. They all take their craft seriously but without the stuffiness that many salons across So Cal have. Want to stay conservative with a trim and single process? No problem. Want something funky or trendy? My girl will gladly oblige! Whatever you want, you won’t be pushed into a style you’re not ready for or isn’t «you». My fave, Allison, will get to know you so she can help you look as beautiful as she’ll want you to feel about yourself when you leave. Stop in and you’ll get what I’m Unilocalin about!

I LOVE The Compound Salon. I am grateful for Kat — not only do I love her ambitious and entrepreneurial spirit for creating the salon with her partners, but I also love how very talented she is when it comes to color, cuts, and overall style. She always knows exactly what to do and has a keen eye for knowing what will work. I always know that I am going to leave feeling GREAT and you cannot put a price tag on such a thing! Their new salon is so beautiful and in a perfect location in the heart of Culver City. I always feel well taken care of and pampered and would highly recommend Kat and The Compound team to all of my friends!

I LOVE this place and Kat! I luckily stumbled upon The Compound Salon when it first opened as its down the street from my office.
My first appointment with Kat was for my Brazilian blowout. My appointment started right on time and Kat did a phenomenal job and took her time. She was not in a rush at all and made me feel very comfortable. Months later my hair still looks amazing and the Brazilian hasn’t washed out at all.
Today Kat cut and colored my hair. It was extremely dry and brassy when I went in. When I came out it was the perfect length, color and cut. I am a very picky person, and for me to say something is perfect is very rare. My hair looks so shiny and healthy! The day is not over and I’ve already received multiple compliments! :)
I highly recommend Kat and this salon!

Kat and her team are amazeballs! I started seeing Kat over a year and half ago (maybe 2 years, I’m not sure) because I had damaged ends and was in drastic need of some help. She actually came highly recommended from a co-​worker of mine, and seeing as how her hair was gorgeous, I figured, yea, that could be my future with the right hair stylist.
And it is! My hair has never been healthier, shinnier (I don’t think that’s a word, but whatevs), and just plain beautiful. Every time I get my hair done at The Compound, I walk away feeling like a super model. Plus, I get constant compliments at work from people, which always makes my day.
Now, it did take a while for me to get there. I had Kat chop my hair off into a cute bob, close to my collar bone and grew it out from there. Now it’s just past my shoulder blades and I couldn’t be happier. We’re also in the process of gradually lightening my hair so that it doesn’t get damaged and she does a beautiful job of painting in my highlights.
So overall, GO SEE KAT AND TEAM. They’re amazing, kind, caring and just have this positive energy to them. And the salon has the best natural lighting. You won’t regret it. ;)

I followed my hairstylist, Julie, here from another salon. Why, you ask? Because Julie is a goddess and total professional with lots of experience.
I have fine, soft, thin hair and Julie does a great job with figuring out how to cut my hair so that it has body and texture. I get compliments about my cut often & throughout the whole life cycle of the cut — like pretty much right up until it’s time to get a cut again. I go about every six weeks for my hair & it doesn’t lose its shape at all in that time.
I also really appreciate that Julie is (gently!) frank about what my particular hair type of hair will do (i.e., it’s probably not realistic to expect my hair to ever look like Jessica Biel’s, alas) while at the same time being really positive about what my hair WILL do.
She also gives great product recommendations & steers me away from stuff that is not worth the money or right for my hair — she has a lot of integrity, which I appreciate!
And lastly — I’m growing out hair color (reddish auburn) with the goal of going back to my natural color (ashy brown) and I’ve been see-​sawing about it for like 6 months. I keep asking to have it dyed to the same color as my roots, which is like not really possible — Julie has patiently explained to me that because my natural color is lighter than the color I’ve been dyeing it AND that as my color is fading out, it’s actually leveling out fairly subtly (like I don’t have a harsh stripe of roots going on) it makes more sense and is better for my hair to just grin and bear it. Adding more color is *not* the solution. I SO appreciate that she’s been straightforward and stuck to her professional assessment, rather than just taking my money & doing something that will not satisfy my ultimate objective of not having to dye my hair. Did that make sense?
Bottom line — Julie rocks. She’s talented, knows her stuff and is very honest.

Julie rocks! Just stopped in tonight for a trim and color refresh and she knocked it out of the park!!! Balayage? Ombré? Highlights? New look? She can handle that too and make it better than you imagined!

Dina has been my hair dresser for years. I think she has a great eye and trust her completely. I would give my highest recommendation to anyone that is in search of an amazing hair stylist. 11 out of 10… Seriously she really is something special.
