Wilkins C Gene, OD

I’ve been going to Doctor Wilkins for over 27 years! I found this office when I got my first vision coverage as a young adult. Turns out they were right behind where I was living at that time. I’ve since moved away from that area, but never searched for another optometrist because they just are all the best! Dr. Wilkins, Lee and the rest of the staff are friendly and make you feel like family whenever you walk through the door. They have basically watched me grow from a single, young adult, into a grown, married woman with children. And they have given our whole family great service! I’ve even recommended several friends to them often and they are equally impressed with the service! Thank you for all the great years! Hoping you always stay healthy and never retire!

I am so glad I stumbled on Dr. Wilkins’ office years ago. This place is absolutely wonderful! Dr. Wilkins takes the time to explain everything and his staff is helpful and understanding, not to mention how they do their best to work with your insurance so that you get the most for your money. I can’t say enough good about this office. I always feel like I’m part of the family there.

Amazing place to go to for all my optometric needs! This place is very quaint and the staffs are wonderful! It has a large parking lot out front, so parking is always available. It is also easily discernible because its next to a Walgreen.

I can’t believe Dr. Wilkins’ office only had one review, so here’s my two cents.
First of all, I write all kinds of Unilocal reviews, usually about restaurant, so if you’ve read my other reviews, you know I’m a huge fan of mom and pop stores, local joints, etc. over the chain crap that’s infested our society.
Dr. Wilkins is as about local and mom and pop as they come. His wife runs the front desk and he’s in his 70s. He really knows his stuff and has really taken care of my eyes as well as that of my family. He might be a little slower than these speedy rabbits who want to get you out of there to get to the next customer, but that’s because he wants to make sure you are getting the proper care for the instrument that is pretty much impossible to replace.
His wife, Lee is gracious, efficient and friendly. Their clerk who does all the eye glasses works (I can’t remember his name for the life of me right now) is also AMAZING. He really takes his time, too, to make sure your glasses fit EXACTLY the way they should.
I’ve gone to other places trying to save a few bucks, but they have never given me the professional and personal attention as they do at Dr. Wilkins’s office.
My only complaint is that he might not be around much longer for me to recommend him to a slew of people. I honestly think he’s wonderful and everyone who is looking for an optometrist should visit his office.

While my son was in 1^st grade, he was having a lot of difficulty in school and in sports. Dr. Wilkins determined that his eyes were focusing at different distances among other problems and recommended we start his vision therapy program.
It is hard to describe how much the vision therapy program changed my son’s life. Before it was a struggle to get his to read below grade level books for the minimum amount of time required by the school. In sports, he seemed to be uninterested but we found out later he was just frustrated that he could not follow what was happening.
Within a month of the program ending, he saw me reading the Harry Potter books and asked if he could read them as well. He spent his summer break reading the series for hours a day and has been an avid reader ever since. He has gone from my grass picker on the soccer field to making the all-​star team for the past 3 years.
I can’t thank Dr. Wilkins and the vision therapists enough!
