Cool little local town shop. Has all the typical souvenir stuff people don’t generally need but find a reason to buy. Prices are reasonable and there is some old school candy to buy if you are into that kind of thing. I didn’t purchase anything but just browsed around, if I am ever in need of a hand crafted back scratcher with a bear for a handle, I now know where to buy one!

BACKINTHEDAY! This is a cute little store with a wide selection of items. They have everything from books and memorabilia from the Civil War, to old school candy and moon pies, candles, food items, t-shirts, hats, walking sticks and more. If a photo of Robert E. Lee or General Longstreet offends you, avoid the upper level. If you don’t like images of little black dolls from back in the day, avoid the upper level,(and yes they have the white counterpart to this doll and neither image is flattering but probably true to the era in which these dolls were originally made). Yes, they have the Confederate flag for sell(not displayed but neatly folded on the table), but it too is on the second level. On the other hand, if you enjoy Civil War history, they have black and white prints of some of the key players, and battle sites and they also have framed and matted prints in color. You will also find a number of related books as well. Yes, they really do have 5 cent coffee on the honor system. You just drop your money in the jar and pour yourself a cup of coffee. My husband was able to grab a seat while I snooped around. The staff in this store was very warm and friendly and easily engaged. You could take everything out of this store and I would still be enamored because I love these old original structures. From the walls to the floors they hold so much history and so many secrets. Every small town needs a General Store and this one does not disappoint!

Fantastic old time store, a treasure chest of memorabilia at very reasonable prices. They sell hot coffee for five cents a cup, just like the old days. The employees are very friendly and courteous. Every time I go to Dahlonega I end up spending money here. There are just so many things of interest. The hate mongers are trying to rewrite Georgia and southern history, so I am glad that the owner here stands up to the bullies and continues to sell historical southern items. They have a great collection of reproductions of Civil War photos which are very reasonably priced. I have purchased numerous historical items here in support of the history lectures I give. Wife purchased a couple of lanterns, and when we got home, there was a piece missing. We called the store, and the owner sent out a replacement part the same day via express mail. Now that IS old time service! Thank you very much sir, for running a honest responsive business where customers are valued! Buy your Dahlonega gold items here. They are much cheaper here than if you buy them out at the gold mine gift stores.

Save your money and don’t visit here! This store sells a bit of racist things, mostly confederate things. There was an uneasiness about this whole atmosphere. Not everyone was friendly and I won’t be returning! I was there yesterday and it felt creepy and unwelcoming! Spend your money elsewhere!

Store sells racist memorabilia,(with images of Uncle Remus and a pickanniny character, for example) as is their right. I found it highly offensive and wanted to advise potential visitors, as is my right. Too bad, because they had a lot of cute stuff that was relevant to the area(Dahlonega gold, local jams and honeys), none of which I bought. Why even go there(to carry hateful, racist products), seriously? You can do better than that, Dahlonega General Store. I hope you’ll reconsider your product offerings to eliminate the hate.

A real gem. Don’t pass by thinking it’s a shop full of junk. It’s fun to browse in this store. There are a slew of old-timey mechanical ‘games’ scattered around the store. My favorite is the player piano — it’s worth the quarter. If you want a 25-cent piece of candy, a necklace, some Dahlonega gold flakes, toys for the kids, holiday decorations, a hilarious sign to hang in your garage, or local sauces, jams, and butters… this is your store! Something for everyone, friendly staff, this place has it all. You have to stop in if you’re in Dahlonega. It’s a must!

This is the coolest shop around. Lots of cute knick-knacks and other kitschy items. Stop in for a leisurely browse and enjoy!

The gem of Dahlonega! You cannot go to Dahlonega and not visit the General Store. The piano is worth every quarter you put in and the souvenirs are perfect for tourists.

Great old time general store full of great souvenirs and gifts from pottery to toys to stuffed flying jackalopes. It has a great selection of books and old-fashioned gifts. The store is very well maintained, organized and clean. The prices are reasonable considering it is a tourist shop and very reasonable compared to other General Stores in North Carolina. The people that work there are very friendly and helpful. I will be doing a lot of Christmas shopping there.

Dahlonega General Store… Simply put — I have to go in this place and spend some money when I’m in Dahlonega. I can’t resist. There are too many toys in this place. This is a REAL General Store.
