So I drove out there on a Wednesday night to check out the drum circle that everyone speaks so highly of, just to find out that the place isn’t in business anymore. I thought maybe it was closed just for the night, so I called and the phone is disconnected. It would be nice if someone took down the website

I don’t know if it was because I went on Halloween… Once I got my ID checked… I had to walk around the establishment to get inside instead of go directly in. More walking but I just thought it was odd. Fun times though.

Generally mediocre. They offer a Wednesday night drum jam, and although its not my kind of thing, some folks may enjoy that offering. They’re prices are alright. I do once recall a few years ago the doorman being a touch of a smart ass with my friend. I do like the look, its very old-school.

I haven’t been here since I hit the legal drinking age, but used to have a blast at this place every weekend in high school. I always went in a group and rarely drove, which is a damn good thing. My name was Mike Hunt and I was from Little Rock, AK. My boys had similar ridiculous names like Craven Morehead and one chick friend– you know that cheerleader girl that could out drink most of the football players and was fine as hell– her name was Anita Dick. We all got our fake ID’s at Vikon Village and they said novelty item right there on the back. I guess the bouncer who kicked me out three times in one night didn’t give a damn. Well, Mike Hunt is dead now and Douglas S. probably won’t be back. Four stars for good friends, hot chicks and underage drinking. Thanks ATSB for providing the venue.

I used to hit the drum jams on Wednesday 13+ years ago in college. I’m so glad this is still going on! It’s still a cinder block & tin-roofed dive. I smell urine upon entry but am greeted with friendly, tatted up ladies at the counter. The bartender is friendly enough but not necessarily Mr. Congeniality either. The bathrooms are kinda gross — but I’ve seen worse. Just like the days of yesteryear, children(from toddlers — 12+) run amok WAY past their bedtimes. Who am I to judge? That’s not what you really come here for anyway. It’s THEVIBE outside. If you’ve been to Burning Man, want to go or want to experience something outside of your usual comfort zone… Across the Street Bar on Wednesday is KING. Usually hundreds of people show up. Several dozens play the drums(and some extremely gifted ones too!) in unison or other assorted instruments — from trumpet, trombone, flute, harmonica etc. They just JAM! I love it. Added bonuses are the fire performers, hula hoopers, guerilla performance artists and plentiful dancers. The patrons range from stereotypical hippies, SMU students, musicians, school teacher-looking types, 9 – 5 suits, Rastafarians, people in their golden years(and none of these are mutually exclusive BTW). Everyone I have brought here is completely hooked and wants to come back NEXT Wednesday! It doesn’t get going good until 11pm or so. I say check it out.

$ 2 Beers!!! and a friendly dog to greet you. Across the street bar is definitely WYSIWYG. It a shed with a bar in it. Oodles of open concrete floors space must make hosing it out a breeze, a stage implies that it could have music in there. Pools table are provided for sleeping on — or eating pizza. A great patio out the front, for enjoying the weather when it is there to be enjoyed. Drinking here makes you feel bad arse. walk in wearing sunglasses black leather humming George Thorogood«Bad to the bone» Definate yes for wheel chair access but i think it works for Harleys as well. Definitely a BYO chick establishment. Cougars are with ZZ Top impersonators Oh did I mention… $ 2 Beers!!! and a friendly dog to greet you.

Man I used to get fubared at this bar when I was underage. Now-a-days it’s cougar heaven, or at least it should be. The crowd is still predominately possible underage kids and early 20s preppies. However, don’t let the average age of the crowd stop you from going there. Go and see if the cougars have discovered the place yet. Across the Street Bar is great for people watching. There is a big patio area, and you can easily find a table and observe the youth of today to find out what’s hip and happening. On Wednesday nights they have a hippie drum circle. So, put on your Grateful Dead t-shirt, grab your drum, and come drum your little heart out. Or go to the Barley House across the street and sit on their patio and point and laugh at all the dirty hippies. Either way, it’s good entertainment. Aside from the people watching, the beer is cheap and nasty and the bartenders act like they hate their job. It’s not that great of a bar, but I’m a little fond of it because I could get in here before I was 21 and I had a pretty phenomenal projectile vomit here when I was home for Christmas my sophomore year of college. Hey, at least I made it to the bathroom, my friend puked on one of the picnic tables on the patio.

Well the owner of this place owns Ice House that’s right next to it and that’s where I went tonight. ATSB it pretty spacious and lots of pool tables and several bars open during certain weekends for special events. The whole place is open to the outside as in all the windows, doors, and huge«garage door» are open. Smoke really isn’t too bad. Ice house, where I went tonight, has an ok patio and a small 3 seater bar inside. It looks a little shady, but for $ 5 pitchers from 8PM to 2AM? How can you complain? Back in the day it used to be $ 2 pitchers until TABC got on them for some rule about selling beer for cheap… damn«the man.»
