Barbec’s, what happened? The diners were sparse despite it being a holiday. We placed our order. I ordered two soft-boiled eggs. My husband ordered two eggs over easy. He got them, but they were cold. I got hard-boiled eggs. The waitress asked if I wanted poached eggs. I said, yeah, that’s it, that’ll work. She forgot the juice and no one came to refill coffee for too long. Then she disappeared. We noticed other diners weren’t getting served either. I ate the rest of my breakfast and asked the cashier to locate her. She came out and said the cook was still trying to peel the egg. We left. When we complained to the cashier about our experience, she deducted the eggs from the bill. That’s it. When your stock in trade is breakfast, you need to know eggs. Reminds me of a visit years ago to a popular chain Mexican restaurant. The waitress came back and said the bartender didn’t know how to make a margarita.

I have been eating at Barbecs for 35 years and the food and wait staff continually get worse and worse. It was HORRIBLE today including the waitress that was complaining that I wanted my food recooked since it was cold. We could hear her in the kitchen yelling that she didn’t know what I was complaining about. We got up and left. Just horrible. Won’t be returning.

I have tried to overlook and ignore some of the obvious things that take place here and brush it off to a business that is comfortable with doing just a enough business to keep the doors open. I kept going back it’s convenient, and when you catch them on the right day the food is better than mediocre(may be due to different cooks). Now keep in mind I only eat Breakfast here(and that is supposedly there strong serving) I always sit at the counter that is where I am the most comfortable. The things that irritate me, not just here but any service business, when the Employees are so comfortable that they talk about personal events and occurrences loud enough that everyone can hear, and one particular morning one of the wait staff was actually folding laundry behind the counter(a small amount but never the less Laundry) and they goo-goo over their regular customers and ignore anyone else poor training at best. My last, LAST venture here I ordered the ½ Ham steak and eggs the ham was still frozen in the middle, Oh well if you decide to eat here hope you catch them on a good cooks day and don’t sit at the counter you may be expected to roll silverware(which they are constantly doing at one end of their service counter for customers) or maybe even fold laundry and you will defiantly get all the latest updates to one of wait staff ‘s life and everyone else that she is involved with.

Went after hearing this place was amazing. The service is quick and amazing. The beer biscuits were great as well. I got the huevos Rancheros. Eggs and salsa were good, the beans were less than desirable. Migas were very tex-mex. The best meal that came to the table was the catfish. So damn good, great seasoning.

This place is so yummy! It is exactly what you want in a dinner: friendly servers, huge selection, fast service and delicious comfort food. You must try the beer biscuits, they come as an option with almost every breakfast. The food really sticks to you ribs and leaves you wanting to visit again soon. Heads up: they don’t take credit cards, only cash and checks. How cute right? Checks! It is like visiting Granny’s house in every possible way!

Delicious food, nice people, comfortable atmosphere. All I could ask in a breakfast place. The Chop steak with grilled onions and mushrooms is so good. Good luck getting in the door on the weekends, as it is always packed. I guess the fact that they only take cash, hasn’t effected the business one bit. I would recommend Barbec’s for a good big breakfast.

Great service! The Bear Biscuits are the best & so far I’ve NEVER had a Veggie Wrap as good as the one here.

Wish I hadn’t come here for breakfast yesterday — for many reasons. I sat up at the counter and was told, «I’ll be with you in a second.» Ten minutes later my order was taken and I finally got a cup of coffee. In another 15 minutes, I was served by one of the apparently rotating servers who alternated at the counter. The food was barely warm. The bacon was burned and very stale as if it had been precooked then put in layers of very old grease for a very long time. Does a customer need to ask for at least semi– freshly cooked bacon on a semi-cleaned griddle? I think this East Dallas institution must be about to close its doors, because there certainly is no effort made to motivate patrons to return. This one certainly won’t.

This is a great hidden gem … The cinnamon pancakes, Turkey sausage, cornbeef and hash, the list goes on… We’ll definitely be back.

We went to Barbec’s for brunch post-workout with our running group. Barbec’s is runner and biker friendly — always an excellent thing to find and even nicer when it’s located near White Rock Lake where we like to run. We had the BEST waitress. She even made a sign to hold our table(it was our birthdays — so it was even more special) and on our way out, she gave us a birthday card! How amazing and awesome is that? Totally unexpected and incredibly kind. For breakfast: The food was good, basic homestyle breakfast. The portions were very large(especially the biscuits). I wouldn’t rank Barbec’s as any better or worse than a litany of Dallas breakfast joints — Norma’s, the former Mecca, or Poor Richards. But it was tasty and the customer service was over the top!

Very iffy. Went there once, it was a perfectly fine diner. Went back today, asked if they could do a bleu cheese scrambled egg. The server sighs and sits down at the booth to look up in the air to think. So I said, «Or an omelette? Just something egg-y with bleu cheese?» And she says she can do it. The omelette arrives, and it tastes super weird. There is bleu cheese, but it’s kind of slimy. I get a distinct texture/taste of something vinaigrette-y. When she returns to check on us, she asks how it is. I lie and say it’s fine, since I asked for something seemingly kind of specific and off-menu and can I really complain in that case? But I can in this case, because, she explains that they don’t have bleu cheese crumbles not in a dressing form, so she just scooped the cheese out of the dressing. Listen, I would’ve just said«no» if I’d have known the cheese was going to be salad-dressing-y. Who wants an omelette with bleu cheese DRESSING? It was so oily and off-putting. Just tell me you can’t do bleu cheese crumbles in that case. So, go if you want a basic, American, fried breakfast experience. Seriously, it’s fine for that. Just don’t ask for anything specific or the server may get stressed and have to sit down to think and then Macygver some terrible creation instead of just saying there isn’t a tasty way to make your request.

It took me about 45 minutes to search out this place because I was really in the mood for biscuits and gravy. upon entering, the attitude of what I’m assuming was the manager or owner was absolutely terrible. Never in my entire life have I been approached with someone yelling at me upon my first visit to a restaurant because I was attempting to charge my phone for business purposes. Also, they only accept cash so the waitress told me I would need to go down the street a mile to pull cash out. I don’t care how old of an establishment you are, but that is simply ignorant and stubborn. It’s 2015 people. I haven’t had cash on me since I was 17 years old. We pay with PHONES now… the least you could do is invest in a credit card machine. Pathetic. I will NEVER go back.

This place is not good. I’ve been there twice at the request of my grandmother, who swears by this place, but I think it’s about what it used to be. First time I was there, the food was edible– at least everything was prepared properly. I tried the pancakes which tasted weird and too dense. Today I had a sandwich with potato chips that tasted like they had been left out for a very long time and were a little soggy. Someone else had a poached egg that was hardboiled, I’ve never seen a poached egg cooked that long. The place is gross, buckets sitting out for rain coming through the ceiling, everything sticky, gross bathroom, and the lady wiping down the table dropped a towel and came back 5 minutes later to pick it up and use it to «clean» tables. I really hope my grandma doesn’t ask me to join her here again.

Barbec’s is one of those gems that you will only hear about via word of mouth. It’s a great little comfort food heaven in Lakewood. The food is homestyle and delicious. The staff is diner friendly, and I’ve never waited too long for anything. Barbec’s is famous for their Beer Biscuits. This is because, well, they are delicious! And when you throw some gravy on the, well, you’ve hit carbohydrate nirvana! The only drawback to Barbec’s is they only accept cash. I am someone who RARELY carries cash. But the food and atmosphere are good enough, that I don’t mind the quick stop at the ATM. Breakfast is fantastic here, but there may be a bit of a wait if you show up during prime breakfast time on Saturday and Sunday. Still worth it, though!

This was my first time here and ITSUUUUUUCKED! The Pancakes were way too thick and my grits were a cold mess. The table was dirty, the floors were dirty and the place smelled like they use dirty mops. Or they were using dirty old rags to wipe tables down with. My husbands omelet was overwhelmed by cheese. He didn’t taste the mushrooms, onions or bell pepper :(All he tasted was cheese, cheese, cheese. The wait staff was friendly though. I will give them 1 star for the friendly staff.

BEERBISCUITS! Yup! The only responsible way to have beer for breakfast! Home style cooking done right! Friendly service too! I recommend all the breakfast food and their taco salad!!! Frankly haven’t tried much else — and there is LOTS more to try! Please though — whatever you do — have a beer biscuit!!! And enjoy your flash back in time to a real«diner»! Warning: you are likely to be called honey, hun or sweetie by a waitress — these are southern terms and they are not flirting with you!

This place is downright awful. The waitress we had was snooty and scoffed at us. The food was horrendous I don’t know why you would offer a peach waffle and use fruit cup peaches. Bacon was undercooked. Not only that but it’s cash only. You’d think that since they advertise on both their menus and mugs they could provide the convenience of using a card. The ambiance was that of gas station bathroom. Overall I will never be back to this establishment.

I really wish they would clean all the debris under the counters that looks like it’s been there for years. I sat at the bar and noticed the incredible amount if old crud decaying underneath the counters in front of the bar. There was old cups, pieces of food, creamer that looked like it was left there in 1985. It was unbelievable, unsanitary and completely disgusting. This is all I could think about while I was eating my food, which was actually very good, but my mind kept thinking about what the conditions in the kitchen were like. It’s sad that this is what my review has to be about but cleanliness is the most important factor about a restaurant — it makes the food taste better. Dear Barbec’s clean your restaurant! From top to BOTTOM.

Barbec’s rocks, the best breakfast diner in town: — high character — al fresco dining on the deck for temperate days — best biscuits and gravy in Dallas — killer enormous breakfast special for $ 5 — supreme people watching– everything from sweaty lake exercisers to church folk Go there and enjoy it, okay?

This is a great local breakfast spot. It’s cash only so be prepared. We didn’t have much cash on us but there was a 7-eleven nearby if you forget. They have about every breakfast option. I settled with eggs, the highly recommended bicuits and gravy, and some hashbrowns. The hashbrowns were lacking something. not good enough to keep eating. The biscuits were good but they have a sweetness to them that I wasn’t expecting in a biscuit or a flavor I really enjoyed. The eggs were just great though and you get a ton for ordering a side of eggs. I’d give it another try with other options that better meet my tastes.
