The food is OK but not really German, more«German inspired». They serve red cabbage and sauerkraut as a condiment, not really as a side. You get French fries or soupy potato salad as a side, not Spätzle. And their dipping sauces for the pretzel were… odd. In our case, we also had pretty bad service but I think that was more an issue with a specific server who I hope will either learn quickly or recognize he has no talent for this and get out. And the only reason I say that is because the chef(?!?) behind the counter kept pulling a Ramsey and chewing him out for making mistakes. To be fair to him, given the few patrons in there at the time of day we were there, it seemed like a pretty convoluted process for getting food out to people. We got our food in reverse order from what it was ordered, though I can’t tell why. We were there at the end of a convention after most had gone and decided to try this place. We will be back for the con next year but this probably won’t be on our list to visit unless we have no other options.

I can’t speak for the beer, but as a restaurant this place is lacking. Ambiance is pretty good but I think I was charged for the side which was supposed to come with the sandwich. The sandwich was okay, but I was really disappointed with the potato salad which has nothing to it. As for the service, I really wasn’t impressed; I asked for a water which I never received a glass for and the guy who dropped off the food never said a word to me. Also pretty overpriced for fast-casual food.

My notes after a second visit. Pretty great selection of German biers on tap. The food was adequate, but really not much more than bar food(they kinda dialed it in). The view of downtown is amazing, and worth having a bier on their patio, if only for that. The staff was efficient, I promptly got my drinks and food, but with a grumpy«hipster» attitude. The German themed atmosphere is well done, but I would have liked to hear German music(maybe even a live band) at a place called«The Biergarten», instead I got Hootie and the Blowfish on Pandora(weird). And ok… What’s the deal with every bar in Dallas having to have BSESPN American football raging on their monitors always always? Nobody was watching it, and it killed the German vibe they were striving to achieve. Unless it’s Super Bowl weekend, how about scenes of Bavaria, Germany/Austria, or maybe anything remotely related to Europe in general? If you MUST show sports, at least make it a German Soccer match. WTH!!!

Horrible service, mediocre food. Avoid this place at all costs. There’s a reason it’s not busy on a Friday night. An hour waiting on a bratwurst to come out is ridiculous. That was after I had already waited 45 minutes for her to take the order because she«can’t get drink and food orders at the same time.» Awful!

Great service, delicious Pfefferwurst, and our waitress was so kind and helpful. When the bar ran out of wine, she made us an amazing drink as a replacement. This was my second time coming here and it did not disappoint! When I’m around this area again, I’m definitely coming back.

Great concept and space but poorly executed. Mustard in packets? Really? Bartenders really don’t care. The owners should go to Munich to get a clue.

Who know if this place is open now. Our friends took us here and they were very disappointed with the way it had gone downhill as far as food, bar selection and service. It was like they were ready to close the doors forever that night. Slow and no one cared who worked there. Food was poor. I’ll skip the next time and go around he corner and get Mexican.

That was unexpected, a «german» restaurant in Dallas and they serve Bratwurst. :) Anyhow, we had to try it. So we had the normal Bratwurst and the one with Jalapeños and Cheese. Both where really good. Also the fries where great. Beside that my colleagues tested the beer, and also here we have thumbs up. Over all a nice experience and sitting outside with good weather is always perfect.

The Biergarten on Lamar is more interested in pleasing the tastes of «foreigners» than Texas customers. Certainly, they don’t care about supporting Texas breweries. Because of their snobbish and misguided loyalties, I will not return to this restaurant. On a recent trip, I ordered a Community Witbier, which was listed on the menu. Unfortunately, the bartender informed me that they no longer served Community. As an explanation, she said«foreigners»(her word) complained that a place called a «biergarten» would serve anything other than European beers. Naturally, I expected that the owner of a Texas restaurant would enthusiastically tell people visiting the Lone Star State that our local brewers make great beers that would even satisfy European tastes.(Hell, maybe the owner would even throw in a «Don’t mess with Texas!» and give them a sample.) Apparently, that’s too much to ask from an uptown restaurateur like Joe Palladino. Instead, the Biergarten on Lamar kowtowed to the pretentious demands of «foreigners» at the expense of Texas brewers and customers. Is an authentic«biergarten» limited to European beers? No. For example, check out the great(and legitimately authentic) Jorg’s Café Vienna in historic downtown Plano. Jorg’s is an «Austrian Café & Biergarten» with an Austrian owner, menu, and recipes.(Side note, the Biergarten on Lamar should first attempt to develop an authentic menu before holding its nose to Texas beers.) While Jorg’s has a great selection of German, Austrian, Belgian, and Czech beers, it also respects the quality of local beers by keeping them on the menu. If you are interested in an faux authentic«biergarten» with an overpriced menu and misguided loyalties, the Biergarten on Lamar is for you! If you are looking for an authentic biergarten that values quality over pretense, then check out Jorg’s.

Great food, great beer, casual atmosphere. Very similar to Fassler Hall in OKC. Loved it.

This was a perfect quick dinner at the bar after a long day at work. The prime rib sandwich was really really great. The reason ll was just as good as the meat. Very juicy and tender with lots of flavor. French fries were hot and fresh too. Loved the concept and open style kitchen with long beer bar and urban German décor vibe.

Absolutely horrible food and service. 6 people in my party and 6 wrong orders. First of all, the menu looks legit… but when we roll up to order the guy says«we’re only serving burgers and fries.» We were hungry and on a time crunch so we went for it. Now, you would think that with only 2 options on the menu that they would get it right. Nope! For example… I ordered a burger medium well with mustard ketchup lettuce tomato. I received a burger medium rare with lettuce tomorrow and onions. My buddy ordered his lettuce wrapped. He got the same thing I did. My kid ordered a cheeseburger plain. She got the same thing I did. And so on and so on. Avoid this place.

A nice fast casual restaurant. It’s simple, minimal and unassuming façade has some block english letters on the front provides very low expectations. The interior was pleasant. We were surprised to find out it was a fast casual joint. Their schnitzel is on a sandwich. It was a little soggy. Each sandwich comes with saurkraut. Bonus points because they have a table tennis table. A stiga one.

Came in for a visit with my husband after already eating lunch. Couldn’t help but order a pretzel and a black cherry soda. Pretzel was super delicious!

I didn’t try the food. This is about the beer… There’s two or three local craft taps, good enough. Because the selection of gorgeous German imports is terrific. The draft system is all top of the line(I got a sneak back room peek), glycol jacketed, sanitary lines. The gas is beverage grade(not food grade) CO2, which is rare — and required(if you asked me) for beers with nuance like classic German beer. Let me repeat, gorgeous German beer on an awesome draft system.

The décor albeit new, fresh and clean is nothing to what you will see all over Germany in a Biergarten. The view from the outside seating is spectacular for downtown Dallas. The Pommes frites, French fries taste like something from a cheap burger joint. The pretzel backed fresh and hot with AMERICAN style Dipping sauces, spicy ranch, cheese and spicy cheese was anything but German. Where is the German Mustard Meine Herr? I tried the potato salad, it was some weird white style sauce with some onions again anything but German. Before 4 pm you serve yourself at the counters I needless to say we did not try any of the sausage sandwiches You do get onions on your bratwurst in Germany. Or anything else since we were more than disappointed on what we tried so far. Lastly the beer selection for this atmosphere and location was only 15. There are over 1,100 breweries in Germany go figure. I expected way to much for this location and investment. Especially since the name is written in old fashion German font(Shrift) Biergarten. Someone need to go to Munich and fast and see what you really should be doing with your menu. Very disappointed. I lived in Germany for 6 years and go back every year so I know my German food(Essen)!

Don’t expect the potato salad to be German style. Really it’s just cooked, sliced potato, served cold and flavorless for $ 2.50. No one will notice or care if you don’t eat it, they got their money. Reuben was good — tasty rye bread. Staff pretty indifferent. Nice that they have a chicken sausage option. They should sell their t-shirts, which are the best thing here. I hope it gets better!

I have so looked forward to eating here as I have watched the construction of the building since it was just a parking lot. Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed when I had lunch there last Thursday. I ordered the chicken schnitzel(of course!) and thought I’d be getting a nice plate of food. What I got was a bun with ½ of a schnitzel and nothing else. No condiments no seasoning, no vegetables. And it was cold. So disappointed. P. S. It’s Frauen, not Fraun.

I came here on opening day as was a little disappointed. The good: Nice simple ambiance with great outdoor seating. The bad: Sixteen beer taps, a little light for today’s beer bar. The beers are pricey. The ugly: The servers and bartenders are beyond clueless about the beers they are poring, all glasses are in metric(a good thing), the beer is sold by the ounce and the servers have no idea on how to convert .5 ml into ounces. Conclusion: A little education will can turn a 3 start into a 5 star review.
