Yesterday, chocolate milk and donuts sounded AMAZING. And I was able to get them quite early in the day from a local shop. Today, however, I slept until after noon and knew I was out of luck for mom and pop donuts. Enter: Dunkin Donuts… open til 8pm. Normally, Dunkin gets a 2-star review from me(except that I drink a lot of their hot chocolate when I go to upstate NY in autumn, mostly because the DD up there is 24 hours and they have WAY better hot chocolate than Tim Horton’s) because their donuts just aren’t that great. But the friendliness of the employees is what bumped this up to a 3-star. Even the girl outside on her break greeted me as I walked in. The woman behind the counter politely told me that they were out of the cinnamon cake donuts(which was really the whole reason I was there). The donuts were alright today: much moister than I am used to, and they tasted fresher as well. Still not at all comparable to a local mom and pop shop(I even drove by Lil O Donuts across the street to make sure they weren’t open before heading over to DD– Lil O tends to be open later, but not as late as 130). One nice thing about Dunkin is that they DID carry bottled chocolate milk, which I honestly didn’t expect. I had planned to stop off at 7 – 11 on the way home to get some. Overall: Dunkin Donuts will do in a pinch, but it’s rarely my first choice.

Dunkin Donuts really isn’t that great. I don’t know why some people are so gung ho about Dunkin Donuts. They do have good coffee, but their donuts really aren’t that great. I was at this store the other day and overheard a manager conducting a job interview. She mentioned to the candidate that the donuts aren’t actually made at the store. They are made off site, brought in each morning and then frosted(or whatever else) at the store. If I understood that correctly that doesn’t sound so good. I would give anything to have a Kripy Kreme in this area instead of a Dunkin Donuts. Unfortunately Krispy Kreme has closed many locations and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some of these Dunkin Donuts closing as well(one did on Beltline in Addison).

The only thing that I’ve tried are their coffees. I love the hazulnut coffee with cream and sugar. It always tastes perfect everytime I get it. The people that work there are always so nice and friendly. No matter how early it is, their all so perky. It must be the coffee fumes.

What can I say about Dunkin Donuts coffee… It’s simply delicious! Delicately brewed every 15 minutes, whether is full or empty. Although Dallas has a few Dunkin Donuts, I was happy enough to encounter this place since it’s close to school and work — that really hit the spot since I love their pumpkin spice cappuccino. I know for a fact that In Chicago, people like to get their caffeine fix from Dunkin Donuts rather than starbucks, I guess this is bound to happen when there is a dunkin donuts in every corner.

DD is rollin out in the DF-dub! This is apparently the 1st of 150 more to come Dunkin Donuts opening up in the metroplex. While, these new locations will serve all sorts of crap, literally, they are trying to seize the market in competition with java-goers(literally Starbucks goers). This makes me happy because I hate Starbucks — why do people actually enjoy their coffee?! While it puzzles me, I have to praise DD’s Iced and Hot coffee… both of which I love. And, they are also less expensive than a cup of joe @ Starbucks. And, might I add… I love their donuts – particularly those damn chocolate holes! All I have to say is as long as I can continue getting my chocolate donut holes and iced coffee from DD… keep em comin!

For the 1st day in business I didn’t think they’re were to packed at all. Sure, they had a line, but not what I expected for a grand opening. I had a variety of their donut holes and the taste was there, but seemed kinda dry and not as soft. I’m not exactly sure if they’re 24hrs or not, but if they’re gonna stay open longer throughout the day I’d think they’d have fresher donuts. I also had their chocolate filled, the filling is what made this donut so creamy delicious. Their coffee seemed ok, but for the cost of my coffee I would have been happier going to a Starbucks, Dunn Bros, or a Saxby’s. Oh, and they also have some sandwiches and personal pizzas. The pizza looked like something I need to try on my next round. Now I’m just wondering if they’re gonna expand that location to put in a Baskin Robbin’s like the DD’s up North and if the other family owned donut shops in the area are gonna be able to compete and survive as they plan to open up over 150 locations throughout DFW in the next 7 – 8 years.
