We used to eat at the Highland Park location, then ate at this one a few times when they moved. Stopped in here around 2:30 on a fri afternoon. There were plenty of choices of entrees and vegetables. We found one clean booth and sat down. I overheard someone working say they only scheduled 2 people to work the floor. Seriously? on a fri? They were doing their best to get the tables cleaned off and still serve customer needs. As for the food quality. Not what it used to be. My fish tasted like something I could have gotten out of a box at a grocery store. Vegetables(potatoes/corn) were fine. My roll was fine but overall, not impressed. My husband got what he’s been eating for decades. Said it was good but just a bit«off» from how it tasted at the original location. Doubt we will make a special trip to that side of town again.

This place is great… yes, I just said that about a cafeteria! Food is always fresh and delicious and the staff is awesome! I also enjoy that they have live piano music while you dine. Seriously, this is a great place for all ages.

I know why I don’t want to get old and be in a nursing home — they’re going to serve me food from this place. Colorful got my attention, bland, poor quality reassured me I should not try this again. I grew up eating at the Highland Park Cafeteria on Knox Street; the owner’s of the original will come back to haunt these folks. It is blasphemous that these people can use the name to serve something of such poor quality. Try the deli case at the Albertsons next door, better fried chicken and salads.

Haven’t been to HPC since it left the old location. Wasn’t as good as I remember the old one to be, but, still very good. Positives: Very clean, very courteous staff, ample parking, piano player was great and the food was very good,(it’s all about your preference). Negatives: Location, difficult to get to for most of Dallas. HPC needs a location more centrally located. I don’t want to fight 75, Mockingbird or I 30 to get there.

I loved HPC when it was in HP – And I love it in Casa Linda! The food is dependably delicious, and the staff like Quin is always readily at hand to do that little something extra I might need for a perfect meal.

Was there on 2÷11÷16 for a EDN network meeting. Good food and good location. I would recommend this restaurant.

I attend a meeting at Highland Park Cafeteria every Thursday. The food selection and service are always top-notch! I love coming here!

Ok, so the place has really gone off the rails with it’s micro-management. If a dish has any kind of meat in it, besides some sort of leftover hash, it gets bumped to the select plate, which is 14.99. I had quit eating at HPC recently because of this, but their one saving grace was Tuesdays. Meat loaf, mac n cheese and collards. Well, they have now ruined that for me as well. The meatloaf portions are now half as thick. I guess that was better than making it 14.99, but let me just say this. You have just micro managed my business away from your cafeteria. Luckily, there are other, better choices available to me.

My husband and i had our son’s rehearsal dinner here! The venue performed above and beyond all that i hoped! My father went on and on about the deliciousness of the ranch dressing while my brother-in-law was crazy about the balsalmic. They had prepared 3 meats(fried chicken, brisket, and grilled salmon) — all were juicy, flavorful, tender. The sides — their traditional mac & cheese and squash casserole and the green beans were yummy. I just didn’t have room for the mashed potatoes, but others said it was good. The staff were terrific and in all areas in were superb from the planning to the cleaning and preparing the room and tables to the guys who serviced the drinks. Wonderful place! Wonderful people! Wonderful rehearsal dinner replete with microphone for people to talk!!!

This place is terrible. I would rather eat at Golden Corral and that is saying alit since I don’t like to eat there either. The food tasted like it had added flour and corn starch to make items go further. So disappointed I could not eat. My 80 year old dad said it isn’t what it use to be but he still liked it ok. i can’t recommend this place.

Head and shoulders above other cafeterias around here. My dad lives in Tarrant County and likes going here, too. I usually get baked chicken. All the veggies look so good and fresh that it is hard to choose Always get the pinto beans though as they are just like the ones my granny used to make! Family agrees. Attentive waitstaff always coming by checking to see if we need anything.

Cool atmosphere but basically a more expensive Lubys. I got chicken with corn and broccoli, corn was over cooked. Husband got chicken fried steak with gravy and mashed potatoes, he ended up with mashed potatoes on top of his steak to help with it being so dry. He also got Mac n cheese which he usually loves and didn’t finish.

Best of its kind on earth! They are keeping the tradition alive in style and even better than ever. My grandmother and great grandmother went there back in the 1920s when it opened and went there all through their lives. The menu has all the classic items and not one was overcooked which is hard to do in a cafeteria setting. Keep it up and I’ll be back to keep the tradition alive!

If you like old people and turkey tetrazzini then this is the place to go!!! The rolls are a hit or miss(get the ones towards the back– those tend to be fresher). Chicken and dumplings on Wednesdays. Good cookies. Bitchin mac n cheese but I only get that when I get baked/fried chicken. White meat is dry– dark meat is better per usual. 4⁄5 stars because the tables are sometimes sticky but it’s a cafeteria what do you expect???

The food was not all that great. My steamed vegetables tasted very greasy and most vegetables were swimming in some type of heavy sauce.

The food is probably the best cafeteria style food in Dallas, but the customer service sucks! I recently went at a time when there were no customers in the takeout department . The lady taking my order didn’t great meet with a «hello,» just a «how may I take your order.» I ordered a vegetable plate. It took 15 minutes for my order to return, so I thought she’d forgotten about me. Too many workers were just standing around talking amongst themselves. Not one of them asked me if I’d been helped. When the lady finally returned with my order, she packed it up, with no eye contact or an apology. Sad! For the amount of money people spend here, customer service shouldn’t be an issue!

You can call it heaven’s waiting room or a post-church cafeteria but just remember that HP Cafeteria isn’t your average Luby’s or Furr’s. I’ve been hearing about HP Cafeteria for ages and I finally got around to checking it out on a Sunday afternoon, with the post-church crowd in full swing. I grew up going to Furr’s with my extended family after church quite often. I don’t care for Luby’s food; I’ve had too many stale experiences there. HP Cafeteria is similar to those chains but with a more personal touch and much better food. Of course HP Cafeteria has your old cafeteria favorite dishes(and a few that are too gelatin for me) and an abundance of variety. The staff is jolly and even at 1PM on a Sunday, the place is overly crowded. Prices are very reasonable. The dining room feels like your granny’s house but in a good way. Let the in-house piano player serenade you while you nosh on fried okra and chicken cordon bleu. For that all around, down-home cafeteria experience, HP Cafeteria is your go-to place. It’s a perfect comfort food option for a cool, rainy day. And every dish comes with a side of retro Texas nostalgia!

I love this place and will definitely be back! It’s a Piccadilly restaurant, all of the food is scratch made in house and you can tell! It’s warm and welcoming inside, with a piano player playing live music. I got the vegetable plate, with the squash casserole, eggplant and spinach. The squash casserole was fantastic and I would come again just for that side! It comes with a roll and I had the jalapeño cheese cornbread, amazing, if you’re a cornbread lover like me! My husband had the fried chicken which he liked as well. The desserts looked great but I was too full to try. Even though is a Piccadilly, the service is great, they refill drinks quickly, offer to-go boxes and are very friendly. It’s definitely a senior citizen hang-out, but they know what’s up.

OMG, I hadn’t been here in over 5 years and it was soooooo good. Home southern food at its best! I had the smothered streak, mac n cheese, mashed potatoes, cucumber salad, squash casserole, butter chess pie and sweeten tea. Great service! Friendly Texan staff!
