For the price, my wife and I were expecting a much better meal. Once we arrived at the bar we thought we were in for a serious evening of awesome drinks and a fabulous meal. Unfortunately, the latter fell short. Tre is no longer there and that is why we went in the first place. Bottom line is I would totally go here for drinks as the bartenders know their stuff and will make you amazing drinks, but the food is just mediocre at best for the price.

I had the kale and spinach salad(without Spanish chorizo because I’m pescatarian) as my starter, and crispy salmon for dinner. All of it was absolutely amazing. The salad was so refreshingly lovely because I needed a salad badly after being away from LA for several days. The salmon, amazing. Come here. Eat whatever. It’s all epic.

What a lovely establishment! I love the open view of the kitchen; it kinda reminds me of Hell’s Kitchen, lol. First I want to point out that our wine glasses were dirty; they were very spotty and had streaks and I guess fuzz from towels or something. For this reason alone, I wanted to rate a 4, but I must continue on… Julio was our server and I absolutely loved him! He is very courteous, attentive, helpful, knowledgeable and funny. If I get to go back, I want to have him as my server again! We received the most amazing Tomato Tartar amuse-bouche compliments of the chef; this little morsel was so refreshing and full of flavor. It was truly a spectacular start to our meal and also a glimpse of the greatness that was to come out of their kitchen. Our doctor instructed us to order appetizers, and we pretty much shared all around the table The Salt & Pepper Calamari were tender and had wonderful seasoning. I really enjoyed my Spicy Salmon sushi which had just the right amount of spice without setting my whole mouth on fire. Here is the problem that I had: we had a reservation, and granted we arrived 10 min late due to Dallas traffic and trying to find a place to park, but we were like one of few tables that were being served at the moment. After we had finished our appetizers, 30 min had passed; and we all took note of all the people that arrived way after us and were not only done with their apps but were already enjoying their main dishes. One of the girls asked our waiter what the holdup was, and he was quick to investigate. I asked to speak with management who apologized and did state they had gotten a bit behind in the kitchen because they, I guess, had gotten slammed. I thought to myself ‘I understand that, but we got here around 6:40, and it is WELL passed 8:00AND we had plans to try to catch a 9:00 movie’). He apologized and told me that desserts for the table would be taken care of. As we finished conversing, our entrees started to come out. Everything was impeccable. My lamb was cooked to ultimate perfection and had great seasoning. I must say that I do not like cilantro; however, the cilantro risotto with the egg broken over it was a thing of genius. This meal, in and of itself, was earning my 5 star rating again regardless of the glass situation(we didn’t even order wine anyway) On to dessert: at the suggestion of Julio, I ordered the Croissant Donuts(yes, omg!), the doctor and one of the nurses ordered the sorbet trio and the other two ladies had the Strawberry Shortcake. Doc insisted that I try his sorbet, and my ultimate favorite was the watermelon sorbet which was refreshing and very light. On to my Croissant Donuts: these donuts were layers of flaky, crispy goodness. I had never had anything like this before; I really enjoyed the flavors plus it came with a Mexican Chocolate dipping sauce as well. At this point, I was determined to rate 5 stars, BUT… I had to ask for my dessert to be all boxed up. When we got back to the hotel later that night, they had put the donuts in a box and DIDNOT give me the dipping sauce for them!!! Sorry, but you did not completely box up my dessert and the sauce is what puts the dessert over the edge. So in all after everything that had happened, I did drop my score one point. I will, however, say that I wouldn’t mind going back again someday if we’re ever back in Dallas.

GOEATHERE! Absolutely incredible place. Absolutely NO complaints! From the atmosphere, to the shopping area it is in, to the bread stuffed with rosemary, to the waiter who never let me run out of drink, to the manager who introduced himself to us THEN brought us free dessert just so we could try some, and lastly the delicious filet that literally melted in your mouth. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Two thumbs up, hands down!

There is of course a story. One of the dental nurses where madame and I go is married to the chef Andre Natera. I sometimes take food to the dentist’s office — for the great staff there. So the nurse mentioned that her husband is a chef. Yeah, I though — shorthand for works as a line cook somewhere. Totally my bad. Chef Natera rocks! I had seen that he had taken over as Exec Chef at the Marquee, and that he was doing good stuff. This was just the impetus we needed to go. And so we did. It was fantastic. The measure of a good place is not in how well they execute the commonplace, but in how well they handle adversity. Madame ordered the lamb special, but between her and the waiter there was a miscommunication. She likes her beef rare, but her lamb medium. The lamb came medium. She mentioned it, plate whisked away, to return with the lab just right. No attitude from the restaurant at all. Nice visits from the GM(Jeff) and the chef(Chef Natera) to check on us. Chef natera came by the table to discuss the menu with us — told us what he thought were the best things on the menu. Fabulous pasta dishes(and yes these were comped — full disclosure) with green pea agnolotti for me and ethereal pillows of gnocchi for madame. Delicious spicing on both dishes. making me hungry just to think about it. I had the duck — rubbed with dried porcini and chile — with mushrooms, some sun choke and brussels sprouts on the side. A dessert called Junior Mint — and we were happy campers. Good spot — and I am glad that Linda caught me at a disadvantage at the dentist to tell me how good this is. She is(and should be) proud of Andre.

I took my friend here for her birthday and we loved it! The atmosphere was very classy and the staff was friendly. We started our meal with the Crispy Duck Spring Rolls(mouth salivating) and the only word to describe it is yummy. The skin was not oily and the combination of flavors were skillfully mastered. Then, we were at it with the Lamb Sliders. I love lamb’s gamey taste and it was coupled with feta cheese, so this too was also devoured. We couldn’t wait to get our entrees with the appetizer being such a huge success! We ordered the Smoked Bone-In Pork Chop with Mascorpone Fine Grits with Honey Glazed Vegetables.(sounds good, huh?) All this wonderful food was washed down with their delicious cocktail, Trail Margarita. I’d definitely go again. The executive chef was handsome to I might add.

BESTMEALEVER! The only thing that could have made it better was a view of something, we sat inside the restaurant so I’m sure a balcony or patio table would have been amazing but regardless this was the best meal I ever had. It definitely gives Seattle’s Canlis a run for their money. We started with the carpaccio and calamari, both incredibly delicious, the carpaccio had larger chunks of capers as opposed to the regular small pea sized peices most restaurants have. The calamari was lightly breaded, almost fluffy with some kind of(chipotle?) aioli underneath it. The three of us split a bottle of chard while I had a 6oz filet, bf had the duck and his sister ordered the salmon along with tables sides of foie gras and truffle fries(truffle fries are my weakness…) When our entrees came out, we ended up getting two orders of foie gras instead of just one. Our waiter who was older and a bit frazzled apologized and fixed the bill for us, not that we minded one bit about the extra plate. It was this mistake that caused me to eat each bite of steak with a peice of foie and OMG, I can’t even explain what kind of magic happened in my mouth. Haha. I finished every peice of EVERYTHING, I ate the whole plate of calamari, my entrée, the foie gras and the truffle fries. It’s times like these; when I realized I’m eating despite the fact that I’m so full I feel like I’m going to explode just because the food tastes sooo delicious. Long story short, I can see how service may get spotty sometimes(the table next to us didn’t get their cocktails from the bar for qutie some time) but my wine glass was NEVER empty during the meal and the waiter was so courteous. The food was dead on, I loved it, reminds me of Parcel or Alexander’s in the Bay Area :-) People watching here is pretty awesome too, some of the women wear beautiful outfits! And I secretly loved the flower arrangement in the background, it had a slight Ikebana feel to it, I wished I could take it home with me. LOL. Also, they have an AWESOME playlist — reminds me of shopping at Bebe, it’s lounge/house music.

We enjoyed some cocktails at the bar last night and really enjoyed it! The bar is very large and a great space… love that there is a patio above the cinema marquee! Unique cocktail offerings and a nice wine list too.

The new executive chef Andre Natera wows with his new menu. Every course was perfection. Specially notable was the ahi crudo, roasted beets, and Brussels sprouts appetizers. Our main courses were also a revelation, the baked potato gnocchi was the best gnocchi we have ever had and I won’t even get into the desserts except to say save room. All in all a flawless evening. Thank you Chef Natera!

This place is way out my price range but I was lucky that my Mary Kay director treated us to this. My initial reaction was that this was a nice place. Cool that there is a second floor and we were seated in an area by ourselves away from everyone else. I had the flat iron steak that came with crispy goat cheese polenta, mushrooms, green beans and green peppercorn glaze($ 30!) They gave us some sesame cracker things to start and some small cornbread like muffin things and also the chef made us some really good ceviche thing!(I don’t know if all this was given to us because we had a special party going on or if they usually do this for everyone). When my meal came, it came with 5 slices of steak, 2 goat cheese triangles and a few green beans and mushrooms. My first thought was that this looked more like an appetizer, but it was surprisingly more filling than it looked — either that, or I ate too many sesame crackers haha. They were addicting! The steak was good! Not the best I’ve ever had but I liked it with the peppercorn sauce, though I think it could have been spicier considering it was peppercorn. The green beans and mushrooms were also good in the peppercorn sauce but my fave was the crispy goat cheese polenta. Honestly, I have no idea what it really is and it didn’t really taste like cheese but it was delicious! It had a hint of spicy which made it really great! Overall, although the food was good, I don’t know if I would pay that price for that size portion of a meal. But it was definitely nice to be treated. *This review was from July(sorry, late I know) and I think the menu has changed a little*

I have mixed feelings about marquee. Although the location is cool and the décor is gorgeous the food doesn’t match up to the hype. Don’t get me wrong, it is delicious but not even close to being one of the best restaurants in town and way too pricy. I appreciate that the menu is changed often but I wish some of the«favs» we’re available year round

We went to the Marquee Grill for Mother’s Day brunch, and there as a three-course price-fix menu. The food was fine, but I was disappointed that they were«out of» the item that I wanted to try – eggs benedict. One would think that a restaurant wouldn’t run out of such a classic dish! Otherwise, we enjoyed the food, especially the chocolate cake at the end; the chicken on my entrée salad was also quite tender. The view on the patio overlooking Highland Park Village was nice too.

It’s hard to beat this place for location, atmosphere, and food. It has a nice size patio which is wonderful for warm days because you have a beautiful view of HP Village. The filet mignon was tender and flavorful, and comes a la carte like many menu items(about $ 35 – 40, not bad). The sides are enough for two people to share, and I HIGHLY recommend the bacon cheese grits. They were much more than just breakfast grits, they were gourmet and thicker– very good! I had a glass of Cab for $ 12, and it was very good(the only two choices were $ 12 and $ 24 Cab). The only thing I didn’t like were the muffins they brought out before our meals. They looked like cornbread, but didn’t taste very good. I will definitely go back. They take reservations, and it’s a nice place so dress appropriately. :)

Just recently, I was introduced to Marquee Grill by visiting girl friends in Dallas. We came here for dinner on a Saturday night. Luckily we had a reservation because the restaurant was packed. One we were seated, I found out that former Chef Tre from Top Chef was in the kitchen. After finding out, I got really excited to see the menu. Everything sounded and looked delicious. As for starters, we ordered: –Crispy Duck Spring rolll with red chili sauce– 3.5 stars. –Texas Quail Rockerfeller– 4 stars(this was pretty good. The quail was cooked perfectly.) –Steak and eggs– 4 stars –Marinated Jumbo Shrimp– 4 stars(delicious!) As for the sushi & raw: –Kobe beef carpaccio– 4 stars After finishing our starters were half way full from our meal but luckily I split my entrée with one of my girlfriend. We had split the Short Rib-Foe Gras stuffed burger with truffle parmesan fries. I give this meal 4.5 stars. This was so good. I took the first bite of this burger and it was like music notes playing in my head. The burger just melts in my mouth. The burger was moist and had the complexity of the perfect burger. The Marquee Grill provided great waitstaff and service. This is a place that I must come back and visit.

Your name in lights. No wait. You, on the marquee. No really, actually on it. Why? Because it doubles as a patio, overlooking a quaint 1930’s era outdoor mall. The old movie house in Highland Park Village, has been converted into Top Chef champ Tre Wilcox’s, first restaurant: Marquee Grill, with easy access to the theater. The kitchen makes the snacks for the movie theater too, plus you can bring in cocktails. Score. Here are your instructions: Head upstairs, this place is deceivingly large. Head to bar.(No brainer.) Order a Beeman Ranch Steak, or the Barramundi, flown from Australia, farmed raised, contains no mercury.(yuck) Sip on a Oaxaca Sour, made with illegal mezcal. (Just don’t try and channel the spirit of Errol Flynn and leap off the balcony.) Watch out for sword fights. Movie screening optional. Uh, You’re the star remember?

Another fancy place in fancy Dallas. Highland Park Village, to be specific, so you KNOW the people watching’s good. Luckily, the food’s pretty good too. We arrived for a pretty late reservation – about 7 people for 8:45pm on a Saturday. We waited and waited and waited until we were finally seated close to 9:30. Some of our party enjoyed cocktails while we waited but we were all antsy and very hungry by then. The gentleman who seated us was pretty apologetic(maybe not so much the hostesses) and indicated that some of the Mavs were eating there, so I don’t know if that had something to do with the wait? In any case, they sent three free appetizers(shrimp & grits, buffalo sliders, duck egg rolls) to our table and they were all quite tasty. My fave were the buffalo sliders, I would happily order a regular sized burger of that for my entrée! What I did get, though, was the salmon. It was kind of a healthy-ish choice because it was just fish & veggies(well, and a champagne sauce) and no carby stuff. I already forget what was on it, and the online menu has already changed so I can’t say exactly, but it was very good. Probably not THAT healthy, but I tried. Someone else had a NY strip and lordy was that good! Cooked absolutely perfectly(medium rare) and the best part? Foie. Gras. Butter. I have no words for how deliciously velvety the precious few bites he gave me were. It was decidedly NOT healthy but really amazing. We also wanted dessert – I had been salivating all day over the menu description of the Texas pecan tart with bourbon caramel, bacon paper(?!), and butternut squash praline ice cream and that’s what we ordered(so did another couple) but instead they brought the other couple the pecan tart but brought us the chocolate tart with caramel popcorn and salted butter ice cream. I started to complain, but we decided to just go halfsies with the other couple instead, and honestly – I liked the chocolate tart better! The pecan tart was too bready for me… and I never did figure out what the bacon paper was. Someone else got the almond financier but that was sort of forgettable. So, overall, there was the seating snafu which I think they remedied pretty well – everyone was happy with the free food; I wasn’t too thrilled about our table back in the corner where I felt away from all the«action» but I guess that’s what they had, and the desserts weren’t great. However, everyone was pretty happy with the rest of their food and I’d be happy to come back and give it another shot.

Well done Chef Tre! Well done! Service was awesome! Bartenders were friendly(and made awesome drinks). The cocktail waitresses could smile a little more. We got there pretty early before our reservation, so we had a few cocktails and an appetizer at the bar. Cocktails were yummy. We ordered the taro chips and jalapeño dip. So simple, but so good. My only complaint would be for more chips! Our server was very friendly, but we weren’t sure if he was new, because he had someone else describe the food for us. He did recommend a bottle for me and it was spot on with what I was looking for. Now to the good and more important stuff: For appetizers, we had the smoked Japanese Hamachi, coffee-chili rabbit tenderloin with chocolate panna cotta, and the duck 3ways(crispy, foie gras… and I forget the 3rd!) I’m not going to bother to describe the food. All 3 were awesome and I would so order again! For dinner, we had the smoked pork chop with grits and honey maple glaze… my hubby said it was a little dry, but the flavors definitely made up for it. He doesn’t care for grits, but it was good enough for him to eat! I ordered the crispy seared duck breast. I finished that plate with no hesitation! We couldn’t resist dessert. I’ve heard great things about the caramel popcorn chocolate tart and couldn’t resist. I would recommend sharing, because although it’s very tasty, it’s pretty rich. The caramel popcorn was a nice touch. My hubby ordered the banana tiramisu. There are some things I don’t like banana«flavored,» but husband killed it. It’s been rare for us to eat out and not have some kind of complaints. We would def come again! Well done Chef Tre!

Jason Kosmas brings his Employees Only cocktail expertise to Dallas… great job on the beverage menu. He really hit it out of the park with his Distinguished Gentleman from Kentucky: Makers 46 Benedictine Peychaud and peach bitters As for as the food goes… I would say this is the best pork chop I have ever had. I don’t know how they do it, but it is amazing. Also the rabbit tenderloin with chocolate panna cotta was pretty avant garde; I had never thought about combining rabbit with chocolate before but this was very good. Top it all off with some Ancho Chili chocolate ice cream and you have yourself a truly wonderful meal.

First off, the ambiance is amazing! It is a pretty big place with a patio on the first and second floor. It’s so pretty inside and makes you feel like you are in an upscale, city scene with so much style and class. The cocktail menu is pleasurably eccentric. I went for a martini that I can’t recall the name, but I didn’t love it. After I drank that one, I ordered two French 75’s, which were wonderful! Along with drinks, I had the crispy duck spring rolls and the jumbo texas shrimp with grits. The duck spring rolls were the best I’ve ever had. I will definitely go back for these rolls if for nothing else. But, I also have another reason to return… the shrimp and grits! I’ve never tasted shrimp with so many different flavor characteristics. It was late in the night, so I didn’t order anymore food. After dinner, we walked over to the bar and had more drinks. The drinks are strong here, which is a great thing. As an extra bonus, the service is wonderful. I really enjoyed my time here and will be making another appearance very soon.
