Drinks are good(Maximo heat — yum!). Food is mediocre. Service was horrible. Several people at my table spent most of our meal with empty drinks. Took forever to get our check. Never got chips and salsa refill. Probably will not be coming back due to the service alone

LOVE Love Love this place!!! We’ve always gotten excellent service at this place. My favorite is their chips and salsa, comes with a salsa trio. One time we went in and they said they weren’t doing the trio anymore, and then someone else said they were and brought it out to us. Keep the TRiO is all I have to say people!!! It keeps me coming back! We’ve been there at least 20 times, mostly for dinner, but their Sunday brunch is great too! Their brisket tacos are only second to my own ;) Soooo good, incredible flavor! My husband loves the mole con pollo and they also have some stir-fry bowl(can’t remember the name) that he really likes as well. Their drink«La Paloma» is really really good– Very refreshing cocktail with grapefruit. We always have a great experience here. P. S. It’s a great place for business luncheons too, they have a private room with a setup for Presentations. Been to several meetings here in the past that we’re very successful.

Great food. I have been here several times and love the three sauces. Upon today’s visit I was given one sauce I requested the others and was told it would cost $ 1 each. Really? Is this true or is the bartender trying to make some extra cash?

Ok tex lex place with good jalapeño margaritas and fish tacos. Table side guac is also really good but ask for extra spicy if you like a kick. A little pretentious but overall good. Also heard from my neigh I that they the chile relleno was also very good.

The staff… welllll, they speak to you friendly enough, but the sincerity is questionable, as there aren’t any smiles behind the words… weird. That said, the bbq brisket, … OH! YES! The wait time, ATDINNERTIME, ATCHRISTMASTIME … alarmingly brief! I was concerned, thinking this can’t be a good thing — Why aren’t they packed(?) No worries — the food is awesome, the atmosphere, sexy. Very nice experience.

Just don’t do it. I have never been to a restaurant where the staff was so outright rude. We ended up paying for food that we did not eat just because the situation became so tense. Bad food. Bad service…

My husband and I were excited to try this new spot for lunch on Valentines day. We entered Maximo and were greeted with a smile and sat down quickly. Sad to say after that it went down hill, out waiter took about 15 minutes to greet us take our drink order. Constantly having to look for our waiter then 25 minutes to payout due to computer issues. Sad to say this might be out first and last visit.

I really liked this restaurant. I was not paying the bill so I can’t comment on my final impression of how $$ it was, but the entrees and drinks were pretty darn good and I really liked the ambiance and décor, creative and not the run of the mill TexMex typical higher end chain look for the décor. It was very TEXasy in both the feel and the size of the servings, but I was with a group of people from work and we had a great time and were not at all disappointed. I had the shrimp entrée and of course we tried the fresh guacamole as well as the ceviche. The ceviche was a bit different with a tomato sauce base but still very good. Also there was a Tres Leches cake(we ordered a couple of desserts and shared) which if I am not confusing it, was out of this world. Would definitely go back when I am back in town!

A friend lives around the corner from Maximo’s and he asked me over to have a drink before an event we were attending together. We sat at the bar since it was just a quick drink. There was plenty of space, surprisingly enough. On our way to the bar, I did notice cozy sofas in a dim lit area — very romantic! The bartender was super cool and helpful! He explained the different margaritas and drinks on the menu. I went with the Maximo Heat which had jalapenos in it — it had a very nice kick yet very refreshing. My friend ordered the Paloma which has, I believe Sauza tequila and grapefruit juice, very refreshing as well but a bit bitter for my taste, still super delish! I will definitely come again and try the food and also take advantage of the romantic seating area towards the bar.

This place was half empty on a Saturday night. Beautiful space, complimentary valet, great for a big group, but I doubt I would come here were I not invited by somebody else. The food was pretty good. Upscale Mexican(which basically means overpriced), with decent salad options. I had a Bandera salad — this is a HUGE salad, so if you plan to eat an entrée as well, you might want to share this with someone else. It was really good. Thick slices of tomato, carmelized onions, goat cheese, greens, avocado… nice and fresh. Our table also shared guacamole, which they create for you tableside, and that was good as well. The chips were a little too thick for me, although that did ensure that they didn’t break when you dipped into the guac. For drinks, I had two versions of the Maximo Heat — the one on the menu(on the rocks), and then the«up» version of it, served in a martini glass with no ice. Order yours«up» if you’re not a fast drinker, because I nursed my first one and by the end, the ice had melted and it was watered down and not very good. The«up» version, though, was spectacular. All of the desserts were $ 5, which is actually a great deal, but everyone was too full to order one. I found no issue at all with the service. There was one waitress who kept trying to bring food to our table that no one had ordered, but she wasn’t our server so it was no big deal.

It was surprising that they were pretty dead on Friday night. The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous and I know a restaurant like this in Houston would be a total hot spot. It took maybe 5 minutes for someone to come to our table. That person brought us chips, salsa, and water! Then we waited another 5 minutes for our waitress. She took our drink order… 5 minutes pass and then she finally takes our food order. Our waitress was a little cold at first but she warmed up as the meal progressed. Chips and salsa– Chips are bigger pieces and have a thicker cut. The salsa was warm but still tasty. We also got a try a pineapple and jalapeño salsa which was really refreshing. Not a bad start to the meal. Max-a-rita– Simple and limey. It’s definitely strong. I was feeling it half way but I’ve become a wimp at drinking. Laredo– Cheese enchilada, beef crunchy taco, and chalupa with guacamole salad. It was good overall since I was starving. It comes with beans and rice but I don’t like beans so I ordered extra rice. The rice was awful. Mexican/spanish rice or whatever you want to call it shouldn’t taste like that. The flavor was okay but the texture and feel of the rice was extremely off for me. Rio Grande– 3 types of tacos: carnitas, chicken fajita, and bbq brisket. The BF really enjoyed his food and that is why I gave it a 3 star and not 2. For him tex-mex is the same no matter where we go or who cooks it. But he really enjoyed our dinner that night! It’s a nice place to try if you’re in the area but I doubt we will go out of our way for it.

I came here with a large group of friends on a Saturday evening. I was really impressed with the restaurant’s décor and layout. Since I was a little early, I sat in the foyer area next to the bar. The bartender approached us for a drink order since there was less than an hour left for happy hour so I ordered a strawberry margarita. For $ 6, it was a really good deal as the glass was huge and the flavor was out of this world. Sadly, the food was less than stellar. I ordered The San Antonio which came with three enchiladas. I requested queso on top as I’m not a fan of the other sauces offered. The waiter struggled to understand what I was requesting as he initially confirmed I wanted my enchiladas dry then later confirmed I wanted shredded cheese on top. After much explaining, we finally got on the same page(although I feared my enchiladas would be topped with shredded cheese). My entrée looked appetizing and was topped with queso. However, the queso was extremely thick. Someone else ordered their enchiladas the same way and commented how the queso had a cheese whiz texture. I wouldn’t go as far to say as thick but pretty close. Yuck! Our waiter provided everyone with to go boxes. However, we had to wait an additional 30 minutes before receiving our check and even longer for him to run the credit cards. Today as I was checking my banking account online, I saw I was charged for another meal. I was set to call the bank to dispute but figured I’d give Maximo a chance to correct. I spoke with Pete who told me he would call me back once he investigate the charges. He called back within 10 minutes and confirmed someone else ticket was added to my card. He agreed to issue a credit. The service for the most part and drinks at Maximo are definitely good. I will probably return and try another dish that isn’t topped with queso. ***Update…the manager called me the following day to confirm my credit went through. Impressed with the follow-up. ***

This is a really great place for happy hour. They have tons of margarita specials and really good chips & dip. FYI — it can get a bit crowded in the bar area, and sometimes the waiters are not very attentive. Also — definitely get the Maximo heat! It’s a margarita with a kick(muddled jalapeño), but not too spicy. The Paloma(w/grapefruit) is great too.

I typically go here to sit at the bar and drink the great drinks. My favorite is the Effen Cucumber martini. It’s delicious!!! Barbara and Matt, the bartenders, have awesome people person personalities. Juan, the Sous Chef; his food presentations are always beautiful. So beautiful, I don’t want to eat it sometimes; I just want to look at the entrée!

* Upon arrival, I was very impressed with the large wooden doors at the front entrance. A very majestic set of doors, much like you would find entering a Spanish castle. I can also say the valet parking was excellent. * However, it didn’t take long for my hopes to be dashed. Four of us from work went there during lunch on a Tuesday afternoon, and none of us was very satisfied by the experience. * I ordered the number 3 combination plate. * The fajita beef enchilada tasted stale and was served greasy and somewhat cold. It didn’t taste like beef(or anything good) at all. None of the tastes were distinctive — just a pile of indistinguishable food in a fried taco shell. * The chicken nacho tostada was a little better but lacked much taste. The beans and rice were not very plentiful and quite pathetic. They put the tostada over the little bit of tasteless rice. The black beans were also small in amount and tasted vinegary. * Overall, it’s a very nice, upscale space but the food is sub par. Big disappointment! * I might give it another try in the evening, or for drinks(bar area is nice) or for the patio in summer(looked very nice), but I doubt I’ll be back for lunch anytime soon.

They have a great bar area with a patio area. Actually they have a large patio area that is off the dining room, but I never really see a happy hour crowd here, which is a shame because they have great Margaritas and chips and salsa that comes with three sauces(a fruit like one a spicy tomato based one and a jalapeño guac type one) I live upstairs and if there were more of a crowd I would certainly hang out here for a drink or two. They have a Sunday brunch buffet as well and when I had it it was OK– omelet station, eggs and fajitas meat etc. Blue Mesa has a little more variety for the price, BUT Maximo does have more seafood on theirs so if that is your thing this is worth trying. Brunch on the tree covered patio is worth a shot and lets get the happy hour crowd going here so I don;t have to drive anywhere!

This place is very nice on the inside! I love the outside and next time I go, I’ll be sitting on their patio. Very much a «date place,» in my opinion. The chips and dips beforehand were unique and flavorful. We ordered Guacamole before the meal, and it was hand-prepared tableside. It was great! We had a choice of having it spicy or not, we choose spicy, but to my taste buds, it wasn’t that spicy(but it’s hard to get me to break a sweat!). I order El Dorado Ala Parilla and it was GREAT! I HIGHLY recommend that plate if you eat fish. It came with a type of pumpkin mashed potatoe-side and grilled asparagus, which is always a winner. This place is innovative and delicious!

FINALLY, went here after 3 years of living upstairs! We went for brunch and it was delicious. Geoff had a spanish style eggs benedict and pretty much wolfed it down and I don’t exactly remember what I had but it was delicious. Generous portion, great prices, and Geoff said the margarita(not frozen) was the best he’s had. Will be back for dinner!

Boy, they sure are proud of their margaritas! I suppose they should be after winning D Mag’s Best Of for their Maximo Heat, and I was offered one right off the bat when I sat down. At ten bucks a pop, I felt compelled to try just one. After his initial sales pitch for the rita, our waiter scaled back the excitement and seemed a tad shy for the rest of the meal. It was almost like he was hesitant to talk to us… strange. I also thought it was weird that the dining room was empty at 1pm. Do people not lunch here very often? We started with the duo quesos. I didn’t really care for the white one, as it tasted a little funny and cooled off really easy. I loved the yellow/chorizo queso, but you could see the ring of grease lining the cup which made me feel really terrible about chowing down on it. For an entrée, I chose the large Caesar Mexicana salad with added chicken. I think I ordered the wrong thing, because everyone else’s lunch looked good except for mine. The chipotle caesar dressing was more chipotle-y than I wanted, so it overpowered the salad and I could barely taste anything else. Also, the chicken was tiny and on the chinchy side; I wouldn’t have had a problem with this if the salad wasn’t $ 14. The best part of the entire meal? The salsas! I usually don’t like pineapple salsas, but their version is terrific! The creamy jalapeño was really spicy, and the red salsa was just right. I would have been happy to have their salsa trio as my meal! And as for the margarita? It was strong as hell and definitely had a kick from the jalapeño. It wasn’t too sweet, but I had to constantly concentrate on not sucking up the chunks of jalapeño. Although lunch was a bit of a let down, I am looking forward to returning for appetizers and ritas during happy hour. I have a feeling that experience will be a lot better.
