This place is overall amazing! It’s been ridiculously hard to find a decent authentic Mexican restaurant but this is one of them. Their menu has so many options to choose from. Tortas are definitely delicious but my favorite are the Huaraches. The taste of their fajitas are to die for! Portions are huge too! 1 torta or Huarache is enough for 2 people. Very reasonable prices.

Good food, worst service. We took long time to place the order and over 25 minutes for food. No menú, just in the wall with small letters. The cashier had bad attitude.

I tried their their torta de jamon, and no… I didn’t like it. The only reason I would ever bother coming back is because my fiancé really likes the place, but the tortas aren’t all that good to be honest.

The torta’s are the best!!! We finally found a true authentic Mexican food! She has the biggest selection of Mexican drinks too! This place also has desserts too. It’s truly a 5 star! Plus the bathroom is surprisingly CLEAN! This is wonderful we will be back.

I was craving a Torta and came across this place. Very disappointed at the price. I paid $ 10 for a steak Torta and fries. There’s a place in East Dallas that is so delicious and half the price.

This review is for the torta I tried here. I love tortas and have been looking for the best around Dallas. This place is somewhat near my work so I thought I’d drop in. I got a beef torta and that’s it. A beef torta runs $ 7.50. I thought that price was a little high for a torta compared to other places I’ve been, but that money is nothing for a good authentic meal. This torta sucked. :(The beef was really gross and not fresh. I felt like it was prepared in advance and warmed up slightly. It wasn’t even hot when I ate it! The bread wasn’t great either. They do put a decent amount of veggies in it. I also judge torta and taquerias by their homemade hot sauce. No points on theirs either. Two stars for the nice guy in front, and the somewhat edible meal, but I will definitely not be back.

This is my first time in Dallas, and I love me some Mexican food. I’ve gone to several Mexican restaurant around the north Dallas area and this the best one by far. The food busts with flavor and it’s kept me coming back. I’ve tried several plates and I honestly can’t tell you quick is my favorite just yet. They’re all that good. Don’t look for presentation here just good eats. They are good with their customers.

Heard good things about this place from a friend, so I knew I had to stop here while in this part of town. Upon entering, the girl at the front did not seem interested or enthusiastic to take my order and was somewhat rude. Not a big deal as I came for the food and not the personalities. I ordered a chicken torta. Ingredients were fresh, but somewhat bland. The sandwich came with chicken, lettuce, onion, tomato, avocado, refried beans, and mayo. They use a boiled chicken here with a mix of dark and white meat compared to most other places that use grilled meat. They put a good amount of chicken on the sandwich. They didn’t seem to use any seasoning on the chicken. The layer of refried beans was very thin and you can barely notice they were on the sandwich. Vegetables again were fresh. Bread was standard fare, but the sandwich is large. Depending on appetite the sandwich might feed 2. Overall, not a bad sandwich, but nothing incredible that makes me want to come back again. Solid 3 out of 5 stars. $ 6.89 for a sandwich of this caliber is a little steep.

My sister loves the tacos here so I had to try it. The tacos were indeed good, but I also loved the horchata. I also tried a huarache with nopalitos and some big long thing that was huarache shaped but filled like a gordita. Both of those were not so good. The huarache tortilla was not firm enough and flopped around when I picked it up. You can’t really eat something that shape unless you fold it. Then it’s just a taco… so what’s the point? The other thing(starts with a T… sorry don’t recall the name) was just unfamiliar and I didn’t enjoy it. All in all, definitely cheap food and certain items are worth coming for like the tacos, horchata, and grilled onions. Yum.

«ginormous» tortas, and its not the size that impresses most, its the taste and the way the ingredients mesh together; bunch of my coworkers wanted an «authentic» experience and even though communication was sometimes a challenge for my peers, they treated us well and felt welcomed — place is legit

The Valley View Mall is one of those typical junkie shopping centers that you would see in some obscure town on a family road trip, with your typical convenience stores around and far too many chain eateries around the aforementioned area. Fortunately, you can often find some real gems to dine at if you venture past the Mickey D’s. In this case, you would do well to find yourself inside of the good ol’ Tortas la Hechizera after a bout of middle-class shopping. Yeah, it doesn’t have the same appeal, in name or deed, as «On The Border», but there is absolutely nothing in the way of service or family-friendly here… unless you are outrageously cultured. I will be honest; I felt way out of place. If you have ever thought of what it would be like to eat at the most authentic of Mexican eateries, then look no further. Here, they offer much in the way of tortas, tacos, and tostadas, all done in a very nitty gritty fashion. But, some of the real rowdy, greasy goodness comes in the form of a huarache. Now, if you were a footwear junkie in the 2000’s, you know that the original Huaraches were Nike kicks endorsed by Kobe Bryant. Here, the huarache is a fried masa board(not actually a board, but it is enormous – they size of a plank), topped with lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, and huge slices o’ avocado. The toppings vary, but I went with a vegetarian friendly potato and jalapeño(I think they call this combination«papas y rajas»). I think the«jalapenos» here were actually just green bell pepper. The hash brown-like tuber cubes were crisp and tender, though not fresh. The refried beans were a little bland, so as to not add anything in the sphere of flavor for the masa dough. The avocado saved the day, but what does avocado NOT save? TLH. What a cool name. «Do you want to make a date for noon during lunch hour at TLH?» On top of the ghetto atmosphere, you will just feel super gentrified by eating here. You, being a person who looks up where to eat on Unilocal, will find this and pop-in for a special occasion with someone, who also looks to find the hot spots, joining you for one of these infamous tortas.

This place is great, definitely doesn’t hold back on their servings! Great portions, fair price and pretty good tacos too. I recommend al pastor.

Stopped by here, since my midas car repair thing was taking quite awhile. They’ve got spanish shows rocking on the tele, and this place is pretty filled at like 1pm with a steady stream of to-goers. Business must be pretty rad. I ordered 2 barbacoa tacos and 1 chorizo taco. 1.30 $ a piece. They came out and looked great, I tried a barbacoa with a lil bit of their chili sauce on it. and was kinda blah. Then the kind lady at the front brought me a lime to squeeze on them. and thats where the magic happened. I guess with the addition of this lime juice, these tacos tasted 1000% times better than without. Good cheap eats, provided ya bust out that lime juice on the tacos.

Meh is right! Was in the area for strawberries and cream, so my friend and I decided to eat dinner here. We both ordered tortas, mine milanesa, and his al pastor. Really, nothing special going on here folks. The breading on my chicken(?) was crispy and it was ok, and the meat was the thinnest thing I have EVER seen. Sometimes I was just eating the fried batter along with the torta bread. I snagged a piece of the al pastor from my friend’s plate, and it was pure fat. Not exactly the sensation I was looking for. I’ll be heading back to El Fatfish when I want my tortas, or even El Rancho.

so I went to eat there with a coworker yesterday… he had the Tortas which was huge! with chicken fried chicken, ham, lettuce, cheese, chorizo etc etc etc the bread was hot and soft and with their house made hot/chilli sauce it tasted awesome! I ordered 2 quesadillas thinking it was going to be barely enough and cost me atleast $ 12~15 since that’s what all the gringos charges at their fancy smancy over priced latino/tex-mex restaurants … it was only about $ 6.75 after tax which was a huge + … when the waiter brought them to the table I was a bit confused what I had actually ordered they fried a huge tortilla or chip like pita bread and fold it like it’s a omlette… inside slow cooked fajita meat that’s very juicy and tender also some cheese/onion I believe? then on the outside massive amount of lettuce + more cheese and again it comes with their house made hot/spicy/chilli sauce which was mildly spicy but very flavorfull I give this place 4 stars on food ½ star on deco and environment … I will definitely revisit again to try out other items on their awesomely taste, great value, authentic menu

Growing up in L. A, I learned that some of the best Mexican food on the planet is served at hole-in-the walls and off catering trucks. I love tortas(Mexican sandwiches for the uninitiated) and needed to find a new hook up when the wonderful Tio’s Tortas closed a few months back. When my buddy told me about this discovery near Valley View Mall, I was primed and ready to go. When we pulled up to the non-descript strip mall and I saw that it was truly a hole-in the wall, I got excited. I was not disappointed. Joe F was essentially right. If you are a gringo, you may stand out. However, the cool rocker chick behind the counter was more than happy to navigate us through the bilingual menu, which consists of a variety of options. Mine had 4 different types of meats including milanesa(think thin chicken fried steak), ham, and chorizo. It also contained beans, cheese and avocado. My mouth drooled. Unfortunately when I learned that my torta would cost $ 7, I was taken aback as that far exceeds the norm. Well, then I was served and the cost made sense. This torta was freakin bigger than my whole head. I have a hearty appetite and barely finished half. So why three stars? First off, this place has zero atmosphere. Secondly, the quality of ingredients pales in comparison to Tio’s…but hey, this place is very worthy of your business. I equate it to Burger Island. Kenny’s is till my favorite but Burger Island cranks out some inexpensive gut-filling chow. Torta la Hechizera will remain on my radar for those times when my stomach feels the need to be on the brink of bursting.

When we walked in to Tortas la Hechizera my buddy jokingly said«How long until someone asks where we’re from or what we’re doing here?» The answer? 10 minutes. The first thing the guy at the table next to us asked when we sat down was«So.. .where exactly are you all from?» It’s a hole in the wall place that clearly caters to a Latin crowd so I’m not surprised they were curious when 9 semi-drunk/hungover white kids piled into the place on Saturday at noon. After I ordered my medio litro of Pepsi and bag of guacamole flavored chips, I decided to order the Aragon sandwich. Fajita beef, ham, avocado, tomato, lettuce and queso blanco all on a crispy but doughy monster bun. It was salty, sweet, crispy, chewy, creamy and about 2847 other flavors and textures that all worked together in the best of ways. The beef was a little gristly and had more fat than I usually prefer, but there were enough options to encourage me to come back a second time. The sandwich was huge and despite my best attempts I only managed to get ¾ of it down(which was a feat in itself). For $ 10 all in, it wasn’t a bad deal, but the quality of the sandwich and ingredients weren’t as good as Tio’s Tortas(R.I.P.) for the same price. A fun find that I’m glad I checked out, but don’t see it becoming a regular spot.

I found the sister restaurant to this place through Scott’s review of it on Dallas Food. His Mexican on Maple series described la Hechi’s quesadilla as «raw masa formed into a pocket, filled with(chorizo) and quesillo, squeezed shut, then deep fried. Made to order, the hot masa is crisp and the cheese gooey.» Driving around in circles on a hot Sunday afternoon this summer I fell in love with this concoction and had been thinking about it ever since. Imagine my delight, seeing this sign when exiting the parking lot of Valley View Mall some Saturday afternoon. La Hechizera! A northern outpost of this little torta and taco place was an answered prayer. This time I tried the tacos — barbacoa, fajita, pastor, carnitas. The fajita ended up being my favorite. A little onion and cilantro, squeeze of lime and sprinkle of hot sauce and I’m set. I could eat 8 of these without stopping. But I won’t. Well, not today anyway — I just ate 5. DH loves the tortas. Particularly one called the pambazo. It’s a sandwich where the bun has been dipped in a mild guajillo sauce, topped with any type of meat(usually he gets chorizo), then cheese, lettuce and crema and the entire thing is put on the grill to get a nice char on the outside. He loves his sandwiches and this is one of his favorites. They also have homemade flan and a jiving little jukebox.
