WARNING… DONOTTANHERE! EVER~! i have been going to this tanning salon off and on for the past four years at both locations. i moved from north dallas to downtown area and now white rock lake and joined at the one on mockingbird lane. I stayed through all of the horrible customer service and ghetto tanning rooms because it was cheap and I only tanned once a week. Then recently it turned into a nightmare. I noticed while tanning inside of the beds were filthy. hair of all kinds(even the kind down there), dirt, dust all trapped inside of the beds look like they havent been cleaned in a year… i stopped going after i saw this. then i started getting white spots on my chest. the dermatologist then told me it was Tinea Versicolor which is a skin fungus contracted from dirty surfaces SUCHASTANNINGBEDSNOTBEINGCLEANEDPROPERLY. WHEN I WENTINTOCANCELMYMEMBERSHIPTHE«OWNER» TOLDMEITCOULDNTOFBEENFROMTHERE … THATITSNOT A BIGDEAL. THENWENTONTOASKME «DIDYOUREALLYHAVETOSAYALLOFTHATINFRONTOFTWONEWCUSTOMERS?» «NOWIMGOINGTOLOSETHOSECUSTOMERSBCOFYOU!» how dare this man talk to me this way after what his beds did to me… this place is a joke. Terrible customer service, terrible beds and rooms and terrible cleaning practices … DONOTTANHERE!

Reading the previous reviews has me a little worried about when I cancel my membership. Also, I didn’t end up with such a cheap monthly rate. What’s up with that. I haven’t tanned at a salon in many years. Seeing as I’m going to CA this week and haven’t had a chance to get any sun this summer I decided to bite the bullet and get a monthly membership. In the past I always used Palm Beach Tan and boy do they have PCT beat on appearances. PCT looks like it needs a serious make over. I love the stand up tanning bed and theirs looks so old. Plus the handles to hold if you want to raise your arms up are so effin high that I can’t reach them. I know I’m short and all, but come on. At any rate the tanning bed is getting the job done, and I have not had to wait to get into the stand up bed. Win!

Okay, here’s the sitch on Park Cities tan. I read the reviews before I got there, and I was prepared for all sorts of debauchery and horribleness and irritating flights of stairs, etc. So I guess you can say I had low expectations going in. But, thankfully it hasn’t been quite the hell on earth I was anticipating. Here’s the deal with me and tanning. With my work schedule, it’s pretty impossible for me to get any amount of sun before the summer starts. Which means, if I don’t hit up Skin Cancer USA at the beginning of the summer, I’ll be on vacation somewhere gorgeous, bathing in SPF50 and still spend half the week looking like an evil tomato’s stepsister, which isn’t all that great for your skin either. So in the winter I rock the pasty-ness(with a spray tan here and there), and at the beginning of the summer I head to the beds to get a base tan so I can actually enjoy my outside time. Suffice it to say I’m not a tanorexic, I don’t bleed Australian Gold and I would really just like to walk in, walk out and get on with my life. Which is exactly what I can do here. The location is perfect for me… I take the DART rail to work so I just pop over on my way home and BAM! some semblance of color. It’s not glitzy and glossy, but you’re paying $ 13/month. What the heck are you expecting? The girl who signed me up for my membership set me up with a free week on the super-wicked-awesome-crisp-you-like-bacon-beds to help me get started, and after about three trips I really did seem a little less white. Anyway, I’m happy so far, but still a little sketch about what’s to come. Oh, another bonus… they’re doing a trial run right now on super late night hours, and I think they’re open all night on the weekdays, at least until further notice. Now that I’m getting old and gray, that means little to me, but I do remember having a round-the-clock tanning place was freaking AWESOME when I was still in school and waiting tables.(Get off your shift at 3:30am? Sweet, let’s tan!) Anyway, I’m happy for now. We’ll see if I encounter any billing problems, etc… they did mention at sign up that they have a new cancellation policy. All you have to do is go in and fill out a form 30 days in advance(no more mailing). I asked them specifically because the postal service and I don’t get along. Who uses snail mail anymore anyway?

It gets the job done. Barely… but it gets it done. My biggest concerns with them over the past four years(yes, FOUR) I’ve held a membership: 1) Their $ 20/year«cleaning fee» — WTF? Cleaning fee? Isn’t this taken care of with my monthly membership? 2) Confusion with locations, drafting, etc. I changed locations a few months ago and I got charged for both right after the move. Sure, I understand mistakes… but it happened again the next month. So they promised me a free month following to make up for the charges; what happens? I get charged, but just once. Grrr. 3) Pushy lotion sales. No, I don’t like lotion. I don’t use it. Don’t badger me every time I go in with a sale. I’ve tried to quit several times, and each time they sucker me in with a lower rate(my current $ 10.88 is a steal), which is probably why they have to keep charging the annual«cleaning fee.» And I’ll give ‘em credit for not charging me to freeze my membership. But it’s still not enough to keep me happy. PCT, I think we’re done here. Besides, it’s horrible for my skin. I’m still hoping to look like a goddess when I’m 80!

I’m less than happy with this place for several reasons. 1 — it’s not clean — stained hand towels, dusty fans 2 — $ 20 fee a year for ‘cleaning supplies’ — if you need your customers to pay for your tanning bed cleaning solution, maybe you shouldn’t be open for business. Cleaning is part of the cost of doing business. BTW, you pay this fee when you sign up and again January of every subsequent year you are a member. W?! 3 — two times I’ve been there, members were crazy mad about being overcharged or being charged after they cancelled their membership. both said, «the owner is not returning my calls.» that’s not a good sign! 4 — when you want to cancel, you have to send an original form to corporate, which is a P.O. Box and wait up to 30 days for it to be acknowledged. Hmmm, no proof of delivery and you have to wait 30 days to see if it was cancelled. Don’t like that. Strangely complicated when you can walk into any other tanning salon and just cancel. I’ve tanned off and on for years in many different salons. This one just has too many issues. No bueno!

DONOTTANHERE!!! I had the most negative experience at this specific location off mockingbird. The employees failed to inform me that you’re required to gather your own towels at the front of the salon so the first time I tanned I had to put my cloths on dripping sweat. Eww. I also almost got in trouble at my job because they put my timer in the tanning bed on for ten minutes longer than what I told them. I missed out on tanning twice because they closed early«Due to illness.» When I asked if I would get extra days for the inconvenience they told me there was nothing they could do because it would come out of their paycheck if they gave me extra days. The beds SUCK. At one point I had to put all of my cloths back on to tell the idiot up front that the bed wouldn’t turn on. I tanned the least at this salon out of all the salons I visited. Horrible customer service. DONOTTANHERE!!!

I have been a member of Park Cities Tan for at least 5 years, although I can’t believe they have been open that long! It’s in the strip center by Jason’s Deli and Pocket Sandwich Theatre(WTF is that anyway!) at Mockingbird and 75. I dont know anything about tanning, other than if i go take a nap in a warm place for a few minutes a couple times a week, I’m not translucent. I dont know what kind of beds they have, or if they are up to par with all the fancy tanning technology… so if you’re all into that, sorry.(and, wow… get a life.) I know they have radios and fans in each room, which is enough for me! I also know It’s cheap — I have paid $ 13/mo since I joined, with one renewal fee of like $ 12 every year. It comes out of my account, and although I have not been in over a year the knowledge that I can if i want comforts me. I can freeze my account for 3 mos(what a smart person does in the summer but I never remember to) and you get credits for upgrades or $$ when you refer a friend.(I have only gotten 2 friends to join in the last 5 years because tanning isnt something I’m really passionate about, however since those 2 friends got the big fancy memberships, I’m STILL cashing in upgrades on those bad boys.) Anyhow — What I LIKE: $ 13/mo open late plenty of beds, i never have to wait it’s NOT Palm Beach Tan(I’m not trying to get a date or be seen, in fact, I would prefer if no one knew I was here at all!) what i DONT– the little F’ers that work here couldn’t be less helpful or friendly it’s upstairs. yes, I’ve already had my workout, thanks(OR I didnt go to the gym… for a reason!) so, if your tanning salon is a status symbol, maybe you dont want to slum at at Park City tan where it’s only $ 13 a month. But, if not being mistaken for Powder at the Farmer’s Market is your only goal, I say check it out!
