Such a sweet group of guys working here. Very patient with me as I shopped for liquor for my egg nog. They even let me return a bottle when I realized I wanted another type of liquor instead. I can’t speak on the prices of their selection compared to others, as I only purchased two small bottles from behind the counter. However, I would definitely go out of my way to shop here again just to be helped out by their friendly staff! Right on!

This is simply the best place to buy wine in East Dallas. Like the review before me, I know my way around a wine dept and sometimes I’m willing to meander and shop on my own. But, at PK’s you really really REALLY want to talk to them and take their recommendations to heart(and to the cashier.) Really.

So, I was sent off to the liquor store to pick up some good mixers for making Ultimate Margaritas. That sounded to me like an open invitation to do a little browsing and pick up a couple interesting items. In addition to having the requisite Grand Marnier, Triple Sec, and Blue Curaçao I was sent for there were 3 big highlights for me: 1 — Found a new Maker’s Mark 46. I had never seen this before and asked the guy behind the desk if he knew anything about it to which he gave a great explanation of the new aging process and what expected flavors to anticipate — SOLD! 2 — they have Gosling’s Ginger Beer. This was a great treat for making the official cocktail of Bermuda with some awesome Dark Rum we had on hand — BOOYAH. 3 — they have a really good beer selection at good prices including a full stock of Harpoon Ales from Boston. Love it. Plus, they do the email list and will send me $$$ off coupons. Awesome business.

I’m so in love with PK’s. And it has nothing to do with the fact that they sell booze.(ok, maybe just a little) My first visit was pure curiosity just to see what they could bring to the neighborhood that was any different from the other two liquor stores at the same intersection. I was greeted by a very friendly lady who let it be known that she was available to help should I need it. Believe it or not, I know my way around a liquor store(I know that shocks some of you) and don’t usually need help or like chit-chat while I’m browsing. But she was so friendly that I found myself talking to her. A lot. Honestly, I didn’t even notice the liquor section because as soon as I walked in the door, my eye was drawn to the wine section. The wine section of most liquor stores is usually an after-thought that is located in a dark corner of the room and home to a couple of crowded racks that hold the usual(i.e. generic) boring choices. Not at PK’s. So pretty. I’m a sucker for a good wine layout. The space is airy and bright with only a couple of floor racks, which leaves plenty of room to wander, and two walls full of a fun selection of wines that I’ve either never heard of or haven’t gotten around to trying. As I was paying for the two $ 15 bottles I’d chosen, I mentioned a recent discovery and bemoaned that I hadn’t been able to find it again since I first found it. Before I could blink, she gave me a request form to fill out. What the hell, I thought. I may end up on their spam list and they’ll probably never have my wine in stock, but why not. Imagine my surprise when, a week later, I got an email letting me know that my requested wine was in stock. *blink* Huh. That’s never happened before. Now incredibly intrigued, I stopped by PK’s on my way home and was greeted by a very friendly man(who I now know is the manager) and the same lady as before(still very friendly) and shown to my now-stocked wine. Yep. It was my wine. And he apologized for the higher price than I’d mentioned I paid previously… and gave me a discount because of it. I guess I could stop here and tell you that PK’s is very interested in going that extra step to earn business away from the nearby competition. They certainly had my attention. Then I found a thank you email from the manager a few hours later. That pretty much sealed the deal. PK’s may not be the cheapest hootch source in town but they’re damn sure the most interested in making me happy. That, my friends, is priceless.
