What a blast and great way to start off the run season for the Unilocal Running Club. What I loved most is that it was a short enough distance to be fun but long enough distance to be a bit of a challenge… especially that darn hill. It is very family friendly and the race entry fee is easy on the pocket book.

This is a great, smaller, community oriented 5K, put on by the junior league of Lakewood. On their 9th annual 5k(2013), there were about 250 entrants for the 5k, with lots of young folks and young families with kids. I thought it was a festive and mostly well put together event, but there are several points they could’ve done better. For instance, they should have better signage pointing runners to where the registration/race packet pick up stations are, where the start line is, where the bathrooms are, etc. Before the race, I ran around quite a bit(and to the wrong places) to try to find the starting line, then my race packet(both are in the same place in front of the Lake Highlands high school, and then a bathroom. There is a mini carnival party in the parking lot of the rec center, but it’s really quite small, with about a dozen booths giving out baubles, a petting zoo, a bouncy slide, and music.

This was probably a perfect race for the Unilocal running club to start off with. The race itself was well organized and well it should be it’s been going on now for nine years. The race was organized by the junior league of lake highlands. I was happy with the price options at this race. They did well by starting the fun run people well ahead of the 5k start. The carnival was great and they had tons of food, water, chick fil a, and un sweet tea from enchiladas. They had a cross fit tent out there at the carnival but I’m not sure if Scott L had a chance to check it out and meet the people. The race itself had over two hundred participants. I think we all did fairly well except Cat might have had an issue with timing. I’m thinking it might be from her trying to eat before the race and getting sick. The race results were posted very quickly after we were done and I was pleased with how it all went down. I hope this is one of many races we might end up doing in the future. I will tell you that immigration was unable to keep up with me today! Great fun and I’m glad we had a solid turnout. Thanks, to all that showed up and this was a great start to whatever goal it is you’re trying to achieve.

In a leafy green neighborhood with gentle hills and country roads without curbs, the air is fresher and you’ll feel miles away from Dallas, just seven from downtown. This Junior league sponsored run feels a little overly idyllic, with cheerleaders rooting you on at the street corners and a large number of children entries with Dads pushing strollers. It was the unabashed Chic Fil-a tent that brought me back to reality: Mama wasn’t in PC urban Kansas anymore. A small race with a 1 mile option that is good for the whole family.

Fun times! Anthony said he was running like immigration was chasing him. LMAO! I was running like I needed to throw up… and I did. I threw up my biscuit and gravy I ate 45 mins before running… damn! what a waste of money! lesson learned!!! Never eat whataburger before a run! I needed to eat something so I can have energy to run. Something fast and cheap… perfect, whataburger! fun times guys!!! lets do some more 5k’s!!!
