Cool selection of stuff that you don’t find just anywhere. Reasonable pricing and you are welcomed and then left alone to wander through the hoarderesque piles of guitars and music. Check it out

This place is a music lovers nirvana. I stumbled upon Shake Rag when I was shopping around for a replacement band for my record-player, and I was directed to John at Shake Rag. John was extremely helpful. He had me bring in my turn-table, and he fixed it on the spot with a temporary band, and explained a few techy options with my problem and temporary fix. All of this was much appreciated — especially since I hit dead-ends with every other place I tried. John was friendly. If you are having problems with a piece of equipment, I would recommend contacting Shake Rag. If they can’t fix it, they’ll steer ya straight. There is also a super cute, blind, shop cat on the premises, so watch where you hunker down to shift through records.

I found this little gem by a buddy of mine who picked up some guitar gear down there. I’ve been multiple times, and it is truly a great place to kill some time and see some goodies. I love all things vintage. I love all things vinyl. I love guitars. My only complaint is that it feels more like a place where a collector owner stores his things. The prices are steep, even for vintage. It seems like John is pretty attached to what he has because some of that stuff(if you can get to it) wouldn’t have a chance of selling at a pawn shop for half the price he’s asking. I’m not hating… I love Shakerag, I’ve had great conversations with John. I will be coming back for sure, I just have a hard time spending $ 25 – 35 on a record where he has 15 of the same ones stacked up in decent shape. The guitar selection is hit or miss, same rules apply. The prices are collector prices and not selling prices. I do love John’s shop, and I like to dig for records and see what the latest thing he’s brought in is… but unless the prices came down on some stuff, I probably won’t be buying anything for awhile unfortunately.

Great place to kill a few hours and dig for old records, and look at all the neat stuff. John behind the counter is laconic and relaxed. When i needed a new needle for my 40 year old turntable, he found an original manufacture replacement and gave me a good price. When that needle turned out to have a little more wear than anticipated, he swapped it out for one in better condition. Some record store employees will make assumptions about you based on your clothes/music/anything, but i don’t think John gives a fuck. Last thing, one of The Kills recently bought a guitar here that they use on tour. Not any music store can say that.

The tag line on their website is «all the stuff your mom threw out… we got it». I believe it. My friend and I wondered in here on a Saturday afternoon. If you’re into vinyl and guitars there are plenty to look at. The back room is almost nothing, but different kinds of guitars, amps, boxes of records and CD’s. And what looked to be a recording studio. I noticed there was a lot of Beatle’s memorabilia. In the front room there’s a lot of random old toys, record players, a stand up bass that belonged to Jimbo from Reverend Horton Heat, and old hospital gurney, band posters, old microphones, etc. We spent probably 20 minutes looking through everything. The owner was playing a guitar when we walked in and watching an old black and white movie on PBS. Seemed like a cool guy that you could BS with. If you’re any type of music nerd this is a definite place to check out. PS — I saw on their website that they buy, sell and trade.
