Went there for lunch. Seems like a nice cozy place. Had the lunch special of oysters with red beans and rice. The oysters were ok. Wasnt that impressed with the red beans and rice. It was under seasoned. Maybe i tried the wrong dish. I will definitely give this place another shot

Oh Crawfish season, how I love you! I like their dungeness crab and tehir snow crab both are steamed as they should be with corn on the cob and new potatoes, but crawfish is the best and Shuck N Jive has alwasy been my favorite place to get it. Definitely a t-shirt and jeans type place. Just order yourself a cold beer and chill on their patio. Fun times.

Rolling north to watch the Giant’s game last night a friend suggests going to Shuck ‘n Jive near Midway and the GB. I like their location on Greenville so I decided to make the drive to this one. Upon arrival, I parted the curtain of smoke and we found a booth. Aside from the game, it was pretty quiet — people just staring into their beers and minding their own business. It had a feeling of a boarder crossing truck stop somewhere in Kyrgyzstan where secret debts are paid. We ordered some beers and the crab & artichoke dip for starters. I think I tasted some crab and a bit of artichoke. The rest was a filler of what looked like a fistful of cheddar. Next came the oysters. These were fine but varied greatly in size and flavor. We were taking our time to order our entrees when our waitress swung by the table to announce she would be back in 15 minutes. She was going next door to have her lip pierced. With a few encouraging comments we got to enjoy her entire history of body art. She even turned her lip inside out to show where the new post would go. We all got a good look. The child is also headed to LA next week with her BFF to explore an acting career. I’m sure we’ll see her soon on Direct TVPPV for $ 13.95. How often to you get cold beers, oysters AND a floor show? After she returned and got a complete update on her situation, we ordered. I decided on the chicken & andouille étouffée. What can I say? If the government made an étouffée you could buy with a WIC card it would taste just like this. Bland and disappointing. A healthy amount of Tabasco was the only thing that breathed a little life into this meal which was DOA. So since we were not filling up on their food, we filled up on beers and finished watching what was a truly exciting game. Shuck ‘n Jive, don’t think I will be back to your north DAL location anytime soon. Je garantis !

Shuck N Jive is part of a local chain(I know of 3 locations: one near SMU, this one, and one in Addison; there is a new location coming on GBT). SNJ has a dual role in my life :-) First, it is an old school bar. Again, not a hip place but definitely a comfortable place to drink with friends. SNJ’s second role in my life is their excellent crawfish and snow crab prepared cajun style. Both are top in class in my opinion no matter what price you’re paying for them. Overall we prefer the location near SMU but it’s indoor seating is limited. This location on Rosemeade is much larger with a lot of room both inside and outside on the patio. N.B: Got a note from a reviewer that at least the Addison location claims to be separate from Rosemeade so these may not all be a chain. I’ve never visited the one in Addison. But for sure the one on Lovers and on Rosemeade share menu, food preparation, décor, etc.
