Urban Taco was amazing! We walked in and were seated right away. I ordered the hibiscus margarita. It was really good. Sweet, but not too sweet. My boyfriend and I shared the guacamole ceviche tower and 3 tacos and 2 sides. It was our first experience with ceviche and it was delicious! We both really enjoyed it. The fish tasted fresh and the guac was really good. We got a steak taco, a chicken, and a shrimp. The steak was by far the best though I also enjoyed the shrimp. Our server was friendly and the food was reasonably priced. I have no complaints. We’ll be back. It was a great first experience.

Urban Taco is located in the trendy neighborhood of Uptown in Dallas. I had three tacos that were good and filling. The place has happy hour and offers specials on drinks. The menu is your standard Mexican food menu that you will find in most Mexican restaurants. The place can get crowded because it is in Uptown. You will get decent Mexican entrees in a hip section of Dallas.

Food was excellent but make sure you read the fine print on the lunch menu. They tried to inform me that they charge xtra for corn vs flour tortilla but it’s not listed on the lunch menu it’s on the regular menu! Get together and stop trying to up-charge people!

Worst customer service in a very long time. The place wasn’t even busy! Tacos overpriced for what you get. I’m guessing people don’t come here for food or great service. Patio has great seating… that’s about all the positive I’ll compliment.

Mango Mojito. Hands down the best drink there! We are big fans of this place. The food is always amazing and service is excellent. I have been here twice both times with larges groups. They have always been able to sit us quickly and the staff is very helpful. Chips and salsa trio is a must. We ask the server to pick them for us and we were not disappointed. Everything on the menu is just fantastic. My favorite is the quesadilla. So filling, I always bring home leftovers.

Looooove this place! What do I love? The chips, the salsa, the Avocado ceviche stack appetizer, the cheesy, spicy, shrimp Diablo rice dish, the tortillas and omg the Cojitos! Coconut –mojito!!! Everything is really fresh and flavorful, waitstaff and kitchen staff are accommodating. They have an outdoor seating area great for people watching but no heaters, bring a jacket(or drink more Cojitos). Music was a little loud for conversation(have more Cojitos) Now dessert! Just say yes! Yes! Yes! It’s also really good and not the standard restaurant desserts! Also available to reserve on Open Table. Check out happy hour specials

I was a big fan. Went after work with a work friend. Sat outside. Great food, good atmosphere, good service(little slow but super friendly and got a check in from the manager). Got some great guacamole with a few unexpected ingredients like roasted peppers, roasted onions, zucchini… Killer. Yucca chips and house made corn tortillas for chips. Dinner was a taco trio with rice and beans for $ 12. Very happy. Veg tacos were not just afterthoughts like other taco places. I would recommend the corn taco and get it again if I return. Potato-zuc taco was decent also. Corn tortillas thick, fresh and delicious. Friend said the margarita was well above average and chicken quesadilla looked tasty with crispy fried chicken and extra toppings.

My wife and I were only able to walk around Dallas for a single afternoon, but we were both really happy that we stopped here for dinner! Great drinks and awesome food. Easily our best meal here on our short visit. The guacamole topped with mole was the best guac we’ve ever had. My wife got a delicious red snapper ceviche, and I got 3 of their tacos. If I had to choose 3 tacos again if get 2 of the«pollo de mole» tacos(chicken with mole) and then pick something new — thy were that good! The grilled green onions as a side is also a killer choice!

Fun environment. Drinks were amazing. Patio is perfect when nice weather. Salsa variety is awesome, especially the spicy avocado dip. Quesadillas and veggie tacos are definitely something to get again.

Apparently this Urban Taco is a flagship location — larger space, larger menu, full staff, and a bar. And this is the location that has Texas Monthly’s mention of one of the best tacos in the tate: Tacos a la Tuma. Basically, it’s a taco that consists of a layer of tortilla fried with Manchego cheese, and supposedly with slices of jalapeños nestled in between(honestly, I’m doubtful of this, but it was a spicy platter). It consists of an al pastor variation that has habanero salsa, avocado and pineapple. And what did I think of it? I thought it was good — but spicy(habanero sauce and jalapeño, i guess?), a bit greasy(because of the fried manchego tortillas) and also over-seasoned overall since all of these ingredients consists of strong flavors. But somehow the flavors did meld together — and I’m undecided if I did actually enjoyed it — since I’m the kind of person that thinks«less is more.» One of the best tacos in Texas? I wouldn’t agree, but it may pull of as being one of the most unique taco offerings in the state, without going«international» in its fillings such as with Velvet Taco, Taco Ocho or Torchy’s. Also, I’ll honestly admit that I was surprised that I received complimentary yuca chips, or yuquitas. I love yuca chips, and they were enjoyable. I was just surprised because I did not receive these complimentary chips in any of the other locations. And the sides I had here were far better than the ones I had in the other location. Grilled green onions and roasted corn in crema. Would I return? Probably not. But if someone suggested Urban Taco, then this is the location to go to in particular. Skip the others.

I came here tonight for dinner and had come about two years ago with my husband — I remembered eating here from back then and really enjoyed the food. Coming back here tonight — it was clear why. The food is delicious, this might be one of the most underrated Unilocal reviewed spots I’ve ever seen in Dallas. This place does not deserve such a low rating. We ordered the salsa trio — get the rooster pica, and avocado lime crema, optional third — you will not be disappointed. Husband got four tacos — chicken tinga, and a few others which he really enjoyed. I got the shrimp quesadilla and it was cooked really well, but was extremely filling. I also customized a part of my order and they got that down to perfection. They have an awesome list of drinks and a beautiful patio. Waitstaff is quick and efficient. Will definitely be back!

Weekday lunch on patio. Attentive server who let us linger with the last of our chips and salsa. Brought water for our doggy friend tagalong. Food was fine. They give you these free plantain(I think?) chips and they’re like, the crunchiest things ever. I kept eating them because I’m a glutton and with each bite was pleasantly surprised I didn’t chip a tooth. We got the trio of salsas with chips because duh. We didn’t happen to pick any spicy ones, which was fine but a bummer. I liked the creamy avocado one the best. Poblano pepita was solid. We couldn’t pick a third so we asked our waitress which was her favorite and she recommended the jalapeño zucchini. I just double checked the menu online to make sure I got that right because there was absolutely no heat to it. And it didn’t taste like or have any noticeable zucchini in it. It’s a solid pass for me. My entrée was meh. The mole chicken taco wasn’t anything to write home about; I like a nice rich mole sauce and this tasted watered down and bland. The shrimp taco was fine. I’ll probably return at some point because there are so few places in Uptown I don’t actively hate.

Came in here on a Tuesday afternoon so there was barely anyone here. Very convenient that you can park right next to the building considering the area. Parking around McKinney can be annoying sometimes. We sat out on the patio and it was perfect weather so that was nice. I like how it’s right next to the road so you can watch the traffic and people walking by. Cool atmosphere. The host had us pick where we wanted to sit and was very friendly. Our server, Manuel, was really helpful. Made some good recommendations on drinks and menu items. They bring you house made potato chips with a little bit of seasoning on them while you wait for your order to come out. I didn’t love them but they were free so that’s always a plus. We ordered some chicken quesadillas, 6 different tacos, and a couple sides(black beans and onions). The quesadillas were awesome. I’ve never had chicken Milanese on a quesadilla, unique and delicious. The quesadillas also had a couple strategically placed jalapeños in them which gave a nice, unexpected kick. The tacos were all good, authentic Mexican tastes and freshly made corn tortillas. I was impressed that they were able to make everything without cilantro, which I hate. A lot of Mexican places say that isn’t possible, which typically means their food(salsa, pico de gallo, guacamole, etc) isn’t fresh. I’m giving this place 4 stars as opposed to 3 mostly because of how great our service was. Request Manuel if you can! Here’s my overall ratings– Atmosphere– 3.5÷5 Food– 3⁄5 Quality/Value– 3⁄5 Drinks– 4⁄5 Service– 4.5÷5

This spot is very good for a Brunch or a date but I am still a fan of the old fashion Taco Stands that serve regular breakfast tacos and street tacos. This place is good but different. I just prefer other taco places. I used a Groupon which was a good deal. I would definitely get the Crab tostadas and the cocktails, everything else was Hit or Miss and wasn’t memorable but again I am used to the old fashioned gritty taco stands in Oak Cliff.

This place probably deserves five stars. The first rule is to «let the business be what it wants to be.» However, because what it does is so strange, I’m keeping my fifth star. This is not the«taco» joint you’re thinking of. This is a avant-garde New-Mex kind of place. It’s the antithesis of where I would go if I were craving tacos. With that said, they do what they do well. For starters, the chips you get when you are seated are plantain chips sprinkled with a chile/lime powder. Interesting, but not what you’re expecting, I liked them, but no one else at my table did. Next, I ordered«chicharrones de queso,» an item listed under the«queso» section in the menu. The waiter warned me, but I wasn’t prepared for what I got. The cheese was fried into a thin, almost crêpe thickness, sprinkled with a LOT of the chile/lime powder, then rolled into a cone. Think of a large, thin waffle cone made out of cheese. We broke off pieces and ate it. Again, it’s definitely«queso» under the translation of «cheese,» but not what a Texan thinks of when ordering«queso.» I played it safe and ordered tacos al pastor. They were great, but even more amazing were the(tiny) sides: black beans that were refried and delicious, and the scrumptious roasted corn with lime crema. Having had maybe ¼ cup of each, I wanted more. So yes, this place has good food. Just study the menu online before you go and be aware of what you’re getting into. Looking for enchiladas? Look elsewhere. But if you’re up for some experimentation with some Mexican flavors, this will fit the bill perfectly.

Love Urban Taco. Their food is always top notch, as well as the service. I love this location because its right on McKinney Avenue where the trolley passes and the energy is great. The food is not your average Texas tex-mex style, its very authentic and high quality. Just a quick tip the«queso» is not your average queso its fried hardened cheese .It is good, but you definitely have to have a acquired taste. They have a beautiful patio, a big outside TV, heaters and nice comfy seats.

I was quite impressed! My passion fruit margaritas were delicious and the red snapper and ahi tuna tacos I ordered were light, refreshing and well seasoned. The spicy/salty seasoning on the chips was scrumptious and I’m pretty sure they used the same seasoning to rim the margarita glasses. We ordered a few salsas and I especially recommend the lime salsa. The service was great. We came in with a group of seven on a whim and they got everything together very quickly. I’ll be back!

I’ve been looking forward to visiting Urban Taco. While the service was great and food was a little disappointing. I really wish we could give half stars, this would be a 3.5. Coming in a little past the lunch hour, the place was starting to clear out a little bit. We were seated straightaway with no waiting. Our waiter came right over and took drink orders and gave us some time to review the menu. We order some chips & salsa; Avocado lime crema, black bean & corn pico, and tomatillo serrano. The home made chips were warm & crispy. The avocado crema was perfect, great flavor and very smooth. The tomatillo serrano was zesty and tangy as except it. But no one really liked the black bean/corn pico. The corn was sweet, but black bean & corn pico was served cool. The flavors really didn’t blend at all. We all were expecting it be served warm or at least room temp, this probably would have let the flavors come together better. I went with three tostadas; De Crab, Barbacoa, and Chicken Tinga. The crab was delicious. The lump crab meat was so sweet, the other ingredients(smoky morita sauce, red onion, capers, roasted corn & pickled veggies) didn’t over power the crab. You could easily enjoy the crab is this tostada. The chicken(chipotle braised chicken, queso fresco, pickled red onions & cilantro) was equally delicious. The chicken was tender and moist, almost melting in your mouth. The barbacoa(Dos XX Equis chile braised beef, salsa roja, grilled onions, cilantro, melted asadero cheese & black beans) was the only disheartening tostada in the trio. While the beef was tender, it had very little flavor. Probably because I was served cold. The chicken tostada was warm, but here the beef tasted as though it had been sitting and allowed to cool. So I didn’t get that burst of flavor I was anticipating. The atmosphere was very inviting and I would to come back and try a few items from their menu. Looks like a great place for happy hour or just hanging out for drinks.

Oh Urban Taco. The last few times I’ve been in you’ve really failed me. I’ve wondered if they are short staffed very often because tables seem to take forever to be bused. Beware if you sit outside. The two tables next to us weren’t bused for a good twenty minutes so flies decided to take over those tables. We spent a good amount of our time swatting flies as opposed to relaxing and enjoying our margaritas. The servers are so nice but they are soooo slow. This last time we got our food before our drinks. Mind you we ordered our drinks, sat and looked over the menu, ordered food and then received the food before our drinks which were ordered first. Sadly this isn’t the first time this has happened when I’ve gone. The food itself has gone downhill a little. My tacos came out dry as if they sat under a heat lamp for a while. My barbacoa meat had a crust over it that I’ve never had on it before. It gave it a bit of a crunchy dry flavor. My side of corn had way to much«cream» to it. It made it more of a mush which I wasn’t really a fan of. I really hope this place picks up and becomes what it used to. I used to really love coming here but as of lately I’ll pass.
