John is awesome, he was so thorough in all his education and explanations. He even has a cool driving playlist that reiterates key road rules and driving techniques! John also has a very calm demeanor which helps set you at ease whilst practicing. John helped me pass my California Driver License and even booked the driving test for me at the DMV. I would recommend John to anyone young or old looking to pass their driver’s license or gain confidence on the road! 5 stars for John!

John is super cool and my daughter learned a lot from him. She said he makes her feel comfortable at the wheel and he’s a delight. He sings and hums while my daughter is driving. you’re super cool John!

As many others said in their review, I’d also like to point out how helpful and how great of an instructor Mr. John Mendoza was. After failing my first driving test, I met John Mendoza. He taught me a different approach regarding the road, that really helped me understand more clearly. Every time I would get behind the wheel, I used to get really nervous. But he would crack jokes to make me laugh and encourage me to be more confident. He even took me all around the DMV route to familiarize myself before the big day. Thanks to his help, I passed the test with one try after being under his lessons.

I contacted John whilst I had my
Permit because I needed an instructor to take my test. Needless to say, I not only was able to pass my test with flying colors but John has taught me so much more than driving. During the lessons, he is attentive and is excellent at keeping you and himself calm, you never feel threatened and he trusts you 100% behind the wheel. I would recommend John to anyone, thank you brother !

I was in a situation where I can get driving practice only through lessons. I had nearly 30 hrs with other driving school and with 3 failing driving test with DMV (walnut creek/​concord). It was frustrating for me to keep spending on costlier professional lessons. I decided to buy car and practice with my friend but when I have to take driving test for fourth time, I wasn’t confident. I moved to Daly City by then and I searched for affordable driving instructor through Unilocal and I found John in Fun driving School. I have to say all these 5 star reviews holds true to every word. Originally, I planned to have one class with John so I can know Daly City DMV routes.
After first class, I wasn’t feeling right. John had his way different than I learned and I wasn’t ready to change it in last minute. But on second lesson, I could see how beneficial it is to stick to his instructions as I start to understand how each maneuver helps in keeping me safe on the road. I ended up taking three lessons with him and I passed my DMV test with one point. I still regret for not start learning with John, I would have saved lot of money, frustration and would have learned good practice. Now, I drive over 100 miles each day for commute and his methods have made me confident and remain safe driver on road. His methods might seem bit unconventional, but if you stick to it, you will not only learn faster but with best possible methods.
oh and he is really funny! most entertaining cool person who have sat beside me when I was behind the wheel with high bp.

After getting my permit, it was really difficult and nerve-​wrecking finding a driving instructor. After looking through and finding so many great reviews I decided to call John Mendoza back in 2012. I was incredibly hesitant and nervous at first but just a few minutes into my first lesson I knew I had a great teacher.
With every lesson, I found myself getting more and more comfortable at the wheel. Mr. Mendoza would always play music and sing along, tell jokes, and talk about his life. I had so much confidence with Mr. Mendoza in the passenger seat, every drive out to the city felt more like comfortable afternoon drives rather than lessons.
He walked me through the whole process of getting my license. He scheduled my appointment, took me on another practice run an hour before my test, let me use his car, and helped me stay calm and relaxed the whole time. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have gotten my license. He had every bit of confidence and faith in me, and I’m so grateful that I can recommend him to anyone looking to get their drivers training done.
I’ve been driving for over 3 years, and it wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for John!

Brother John is an amazing driving instructor and is great at making you feel at ease when you’re behind the wheel. He really does care about how well you do, and wants driving to be a good experience for everyone involved. There are few times I’ve enjoyed being behind the wheel as much as I have than when John was instructing me.
If you’re nervous about driving, or just looking for a good instructor, you really can’t do better than John Mendoza.

I dont think I would find the confidence in driving had it not been with this guy who taught me and encouraged me that I can do it, and I did! Passed the driving test just today and I am, of course, grateful because all through out every lessons, he kept his patience all the time. Even on the day of the behind-​the-​wheel test, we drove around just so I will get used to driving the area again, and I admit, I still had to be reminded of what to do and what not, but he was still patient with me trying to calm me down as I was getting anxious with the test.
I would highly recommended this guy as an instructor. You’ll learn more than what you paid for and he’s a cool teacher. You’ll definitely have fun while learning. Thumbs up for John!

Friendly, funny, and patient guy. Had a 2-​hour session for manual transmission. Stalled a few times, timing of my feet were not in sync yet, but John’s ability to stay calm in these situations proves that he knows his craft. Just know that it is $ 100/​hr for manual, but price is not an issue when you have legit instructor. Would recommend.

I just passed my behind the wheel test on Monday, the day before my permit expired lol. I had 2 driving lessons with Kuya John. And within those 2 days I can say that I learned a lot from him. John is one good instructor and a funny guy, I could tell that he loves what he does because he is patient and makes sure that you know and understand the road rules and signs. He won’t let you drive anywhere you’re not comfortable driving in if he knows you’re not ready yet. If you’re taking your behind the wheel test in Daly City, Kuya John will take you driving around the area to get you familiar with it. There are 3 possible routes the examiner will take you on and John will show you all three of them.

John was very helpful when I called to schedule my daughter her 6hr course. He made me as a parent feel safe and not worry. That was soooo important for me ! She has her first driving test next week !! Excited !! Thanks John !!

My husband and I moved to the Bay Area in 2013 both not knowing how to drive. After a year, we decided that it was time to learn. John helped us both learn to drive safely and more importantly, to pass our behind the wheel test.
At first I was very nervous and anxious, I was surprised when he took me to the road a few minutes into our first lesson. One thing is for sure, John knows his craft… He is a very good driving instructor. However, I lacked the ability to be in control on the wheels, I doubted myself and all the nervousness took the better of me. I was a mess of a student… But John was really patient and never lost his cool.
My husband on the other hand learned right away, fast. After a few lessons with John, he took his driving test and passed — one take! And to think he didn’t have any prior experience either. He had never been on the driver’s seat before we met John. He got his license and we bought our first car. I continued to be on the passenger seat.
I was not ready to take my DMV test and so I took some break from driving then came back to John after almost a year. I really wanted to be able to drive. At first, I asked my husband to help me practice and thought I could learn from him and save some money since we now have a car that we can use. But we ended up arguing all the time whenever we drive together. There were a lot of yelling, cursing and crying in the few nights that we attempted. So to save our sanity, we both agreed that it’s time to call John again.
I went back to my lessons with John and, man, what a difference. The second time around I was more confident and I knew left from right, gas from brake — things that I really struggled due to nervousness before (yeah, I know… That’s how bad it was). I even enjoyed driving around with him during lessons. I was finally able to listen to his driving playlist (I heard it before but never paid attention to it because I was a nervous wreck) which he especially selected for his students (I saw the sign, Move your body…) and more importantly, I was able to learn so much from him. After 2 lessons I was ready for my driving test and guess what, I passed! One take.
The things I learned from John, I think I will always remember everytime I’m driving. He taught me how to be confident on the wheels and how to understand the hazzards of the road and to react appropriately. If you’re looking for a driving instructor… Don’t hesitate. He’s as good as the reviews said he is. After all, I found him by searching from Unilocal too.

I was hesitant at first, but I immediately felt comfortable with John. The lessons were straightforward and to the point. He took me around many familiar routes and not-​so-​familiar routes, which I was very nervous about. After a few lessons, he took me downtown, which definitely scared me, but he assured me that I was ready and made sure that I was calm and comfortable the whole way through. On the day of my test, he took me around the actual route of the test, which definitely prepared me for what was to come. And after having my permit expire the first time and a few months into my second permit, I passed! =)
Overall, John is really good at what he does and is very passionate about it. If you’re interested in a fun and informative instructor, then I highly recommend John!

I passed my driving test first try back in 2011 with the guidance of John Mendoza.
John was a great help and will guide you through everything you need to know without the pressure of driving.
He taught and explained to me everything I need to learn about the road the first 30 min and made me drive for the rest of the time immediately showing me tips and tricks that helped me become the safe driver I am today.
As soon as I got my hours completed he helped me get an appointment and showed me what to expect on the test.
I recommend him to anyone who needs help learning to drive and passing the drivings test. He is a cool guy that will make you feel comfortable behind the wheel and will act as your mentor and friend.

First things first, i was only taking a 10 day leave coming from a 5 month deployment and i did a last minute appointment with him. He made it happen.
2^nd, he picked me up on time and he gave me a refresher course! (I havent been driving for 5 months) it was clear and it all made sense.
3^rd, after getting taught for 2 consecutive days (only) he was able to schedule a last minute driving test for me before i fly back to virginia! And I JUST GOT MY LICENSE TODAY!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Just imagine guys, i havent been driving for 5 months, 2 refresher courses and he got me rolling out of dmv with flying colors!

I took couple of lessons with Kuya John. He was my very first instructor and my only way to practice as well. Very accommodating, precise and makes driving really fun and cool. What I really loved was the so called graduation part. He let me drove down at Lombard Street (Crookedest Road) and couple tourists attraction, which for someone who’ll be driving within San Francisco will try to avoid
Tip: He’ll take you to certain areas in Daly City and let you familiarize with it, road conditions and traffic flow. Guess what!!! that’s where my examiner took me for my actual.

John is very funny and out going, he defiantly made the driving sections fun and relaxing. I never thought I could pass my driving test the first time I tried, but I did. Thanks to John and I enjoy driving a lot now :)

I want to say Thank you John! You made learning how to drive easy and comfortable for me. He’s the driving instructor that you will be happy to have. You will learn and enjoy at the same time. I didnt just learned, I conqured my fears too because of John. He is so positive! Which I like the most in a person. No dull moment during the lesson. Made me more a doer! I will recommend him to all the people who wants to learn how to drive and have fun.

I passed my driving test yesterday. John is the best! Even if I didn’t pass my first time, it doesn’t hurt the fact he is a great instructor; I trust him. Go for him!
I agree with all other 5-​star reviews. Just summarize some points I want to point out and admire:
1) John explains well on everything he tells you to or not to do; the reason behind it, the scenarios, how to remember it, etc. Why the stop sign is Octagon; why put down side mirror; why straight backing… just mention a few. You may feel surprised or weird at the beginning, but later you’ll find out John’s always right!
2) John tries to make you relaxed, encourage you. While making sure you understand and learn quickly, he’s patient, even if I did something alarming he never get annoying (unlike those examiners…)
3) John tries to keep the class funny. And the songs he uses during the class are chosen in purpose. all somehow related to driving, keep awake, encourage…
4) John can be your friend, not just instructor
