Compared to other shops I’ve frequented around CA, Ohana Pro Shop isn’t too bad, however, the first thing I see when I walk in is a counter and not a wall of bowling balls or bowling accessories for sale. Sort of a turn off for me as I have«SHINYSYNDROME» to new bowling balls. Charles was the guy who helped me out for the drilling and sales of my first bowling ball in CA. I generally purchased my bowling balls online or in Asia. I’m pretty content with the service I received, as he seemed like he was passionate about the sport of bowling too. PROS: — Conveniently located within Classic Bowling Center. — Accessories are readily available — Bowling Shoes are inexpensive and they have my size! CONS: — Small variety of bowling balls for sale — Bad Ventilation — Bowling balls on display are somewhat dusty… — Random store hours. Must be a FOB trend. :( OVERALLEXPERIENCE: Its a hit or miss here depending on what you come to the shop for. I’m more of an order-it-online type of person. If my ball is really jacked up and needs some minor polishing, then I’d bring it to Ohana to get it touched up.

I remember coming here before this place turned into the ohana pro shop. And at first glance you would think they only thing that changed was the name of the store. After a few beers maybe that would be true. The good: They have a couch inside.(+1) Brittany is really friendly when she greets you and asks what you need done if Ivan is busy.(+1) The Bad: The balls on the rack look like they never leave the shelf. And I’m not talking about being on display either. It appears he gets/has more used up balls than quality good balls.(-1) The rosin bags and other small portable equipment is located in vending machines now instead of the snacks that are once there… that’s odd(–1) The Ugly: I have witnessed him drilling someone’s brand new«lights out» bowling ball in such a way where: A: He eye balls the holes but doesn’t really take any tool to measure for accuracy. B:He found a way to make the grip much smaller and uncomfortable than a baby size house ball. C:You could swear he looked annoyed/peeved when he’s on task drilling and using a vaccum to suck the ball. D: After a few questions over the years you can pretty much tell hes not as informed about bowling balls and equipment as you would like/hope him to be.(–4) End result: I never thought I would say this but go to sea bowl. *gasp*…and ask to see Raymomd .You will notice the difference

This is a GREAT bowling shop. Ivan was there to help us and special order 4 pairs of bowling shoes… 3 for my brother, dad and boyfriend, 1 for me and he was so helpful and accommodating so close to the holidays and new year. we ordered shoes that he did not currently have in his inventory but he was quick to look up the items from the catalog and put in a special order to receive our shoes in time for Christmas. He definitely come through with the deadline promise… unfortunately, we FORGOT we even ordered the shoes and remembered a couple days after the Christmas holiday. YIKES. But, when we showed up he had a smile on his face and remembered us! I actually have one more pair to exchange which I’m supposed to do today, but again, his service is great and the shoes we ordered were exactly what we were looking for. I always see people in there ordering bowling balls and requesting adjustments so maybe if we keep up bowling, our next step will be to order fitted bowling balls for the family!

Ohana ProShop, located inside Classic Bowl, is by far, hands down, THE best pro shop I’ve dealt with. Ivan, the owner, is friendly, VERY knowledgeable, gives great advice to someone who isn’t a professional bowler, has ZERO attitude, and really makes Ohana live up to its motto, «It’s where you’re treated like family.» Most bowling pro shops are staffed by older gentlemen who tend to remind me of either someone’s grandpa or older dad. Not saying this is bad, but I’ve always gotten the sense that bowling pro shops are sort of «The Club» that, if you’re not all that knowledgeable about the sport/lingo/particular alley/etc., then you’re not likely to get as prompt or personalized service as the gang that is ALWAYS at that shop, who goes out for drinks or goes fishing with the folks behind the counter. Ivan is a younger guy(whose certifications are credentials are displayed on the wall, should anyone have any doubts) who maintains a pro shop that a PBA champ could know is a solid establishment, but also that a novice just starting out in the sport can come to and not feel like they’re getting taken advantage of. I’ve recently joined a league, and my buddy who got me to join took me to Ohana. He’d heard that Ivan knew his stuff. Despite the fact that Ohana is out of my way, there’s nowhere else I’ll shop for my bowling needs. Bottom line: If you want solid service, expert know how, ease of transaction and no attitude, Ohana ProShop is your first and last stop. Walk in as a customer, walk out as family.
