Huevos Fernaldos is DELICIOUS. I wish i could have it every morning. So good. Just walked in after about 17 years and nothing has changed, which is perfect. I didn’t know they’d moved and gone back to the same building(or so says my grandma?), which is equally awesome. The toys and candies and little things I vaguely remembered, the cookies stuck out in my mind, but so glad to come back as an adult and truly enjoy the place. So much love for Fernald’s.

Okay, after eating seafood for 10 days straight, I needed something different. Not only are the sandwiches the best I can remember, the vibe is quintessential Maine. I wish I had the time to sit in the store for hours people watching. My kids loved the candy and cookies. My wife and I had 4 different sandwiches over two days… all blew us away. If you need a great lunch sandwich, this is a must have!

Fernalds is Fun! Fernalds food is great– my favorite sandwich stop on the way out of Damariscotta. Amazing variety of sandwiches. And breakfast is excellent(although arrive before 11 for more options). Muffins, scones, sticky buns, all very fresh, available any time. And if you need more substantial go for the Bigelow, a sour dough and egg and bacon fried sandwich. Awesome!

Great place for a sandwich, many varieties and combinations to choose from. I had a roast beef club and we also got a meatloaf sandwich. Will definitely return!

Feels like time to update my review, about five years since my original review. Fernalds is still a definite five star place. It’s still got great sandwiches. candy, ice cream, and an awesome selection of handmade and assorted knick knacks and toys. It’s still got an amazing staff, most of who have been there for many years and all of whom are either family or friends with the owner. But there is one big difference. Fernald’s now accepts CREDITCARDS!!! There was a small celebration in my family when we saw the Facebook update about them accepting credit cards and let me tell you it is glorious. No longer do I have to remember to bring cash. No longer do i have to worry about not spending too much. Instead, I just go to Fernalds. I’m stuck on the Help Me Rhonda right now, and have been for the last four years. It’s a Thanksgiving dinner sandwich and it’s better than any sandwich I’ve had anywhere else. Everyone who vacations in the Northeast says that their local sandwich shop is the best, but I know I’m in the right because Fernald’s definitely ISTHEBEST!

Friendly staff, stopped in for a quick bite. We had a great grilled cheese and good conversion with some locals. The store is adorable and has ice cream.

Be patient, order ahead, or relax. the sandwiches are sooooo good! breakfasts are perfect for diner style fare, and the store itself is comfy. They offer some of the best gluten free options for sandwich bread around. Be a good customer, you will be treated well. Favorites are the TinMan with added hots or bacon, or in the cooler weather the Some Likes it Hot!

The atmosphere is the best. Their sandwiches can’t be beat. Go there, you’ll be happy you did! The place is quirky, kitschy, and fun. Its filled with tons of nostalgia… from toys to album covers, to posters. My two year loves the old matchbox cars! They have a wall of penny candy and their baked goods are unreal. Their menu is classic… and eclectic. They have the old standbys like BLT and Reuben, then they branch out and get fun and creative with things from there. Never a dull sandwich. The food is prepared fresh, is delicious, and relatively quick. They also offer vegetarian and gluten free options. We live in Newcastle and this is one of our favorite places to eat. Would honestly and gladly recommend Fernalds to anyone!

Don’t forget the breakfast menu… When Blue Marble and The Breakfast Place closed last year, there were very few places to get breakfast in town. Thankfully, Fernalds moved in, with their delicious red flannel hash and eggs bigelow. Their homemade muffins are fantastic as well. Give them a try in the morning… you won’t be disappointed.

I wanted to love this place. I really did. My husband tells tale of Fernald’s when he was a kid, located in the now-new location downtown Damariscotta. I was so excited to go there after his description of how great the food was back in the day, and loved the atmosphere – very bohemian, crunchy with mismatched furniture and a whole rack of self serve coffee urns. Too bad the food isn’t as good as the vibe. Two weeks ago(July 4 weekend, Friday AM9:30ish), we stopped for a quick breakfast sandwich on the way into town. My baby was asleep in the car, so I ran in while the husband stayed with her. Staffing was light, so I understood when there was no coffee in the aforementioned self-serve dispensers.(All 6 were empty – completely empty). People were standing around with coffee cups, waiting. I ordered a Bigelow sandwich for myself and grabbed a muffin(again, self serve) for my husband. I waited 20 min for the sandwich, and when I asked about it, I was told it would take ANOTHER20 minutes to make it. So, I skipped the sandwich, and we had muffins. And I was so annoyed I can’t even tell you if they were good. TOday we tried them again, for lunch. Service was not as bad as for breakfast, they’ve staffed up, and we got our sandwiches in a few minutes. I had the BLT. Sourdough was nice, but nothing extraordinary, and the lettuce was shredded and tasted of preservative. For $ 5.50 for 2 small slices of bread and a few pieces of bacon, I wanted crisp, cold lettuce and fresh tomato. I was disappointed. My husband had a salmon sandwich, which he thought would be fresh from the description. Turned out to be smoked, so was a disappointment for him. His reaction? Meh.
