I’ve always had hot dogs here, and love them. But their home made corned-beef hash is a truly life-affirming experience. Try it, and see!

Unilocal shows this place open at 12:30 on a Sunday and it wasn’t! Drove significantly off the highway for this and was very disappointed. Update your info!

Had driven by this place numerous times with no clue what type of food they served. New friend mentioned he ate here several times per week. Tried it out & not disappointed! Loved the chili hot dog & side. Great service & decent price. I’ll try it again soon!

Not impressed. Poor service. I ordered a MR bacon cheeseburger and received a WD cheeseburger without bacon. Cheese and bacon curly fries were all burnt. This is the second bad experience that I’ve had at this place. There will not be a third.

Best hot dogs and milkshakes in Danbury! For sure one of our hidden gems! The wait staff is always super friendly and accommodating. One of the only places that tell you your food will be ready in ten minutes and it actually is. The atmosphere is inviting and nicely spaced out for dining in also. I very generous portions and their coleslaw is out of this world. Definitely a wonderful stop if you’re in the area:)

Great food, great prices and great service. This place is a Danbury tradition. The restaurant is almost 100 years old! I had the home made corned beef hash with two poached eggs on top with hollandaise sauce. A great breakfast and it was served piping hot. By the way, the hollandaise atop the eggs in this dish was special request. Check it out out for lunch as well– their dogs are fantastic and made special for them by Hummel Bros.

There’s a big sign outside that says open Sundays, then you walk in the door at 1:30pm on a Sunday and they tell you they’re closed. Hmmm…

It was delicious and I love how it looks like an old classic diner, I feel like I’m in an old movie. This place is a historical landmark in Danbury and has been in business since like the 30’s. I’ve been here a few times and today instead of going with my usual French toast I decided to try their famous Texas hot Weiner. I’m guessing they pre-cook all the hot dogs because I got so sick as soon as l left. Other than that it’s a great place and I love the shakes! I just won’t be having any hot dogs

Let me start off by saying the place looked to be very clean. The restrooms were very clean as well. The waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. The service was very quick. I ordered their famous original Texas hot weiners, although I did get one with just chili and one with their special sauce onion and mustard. They both lacked flavor. Nothing«hot» about them at all, except for the temperature. The weiners themselves didn’t have much flavor and the chili was bland. The special sauce was obviously not so special, tasted very sour. I also ordered some French fries and I would’ve been better off just eating the menu which probably would’ve had more flavor than these French fries. It’s a shame that they charge $ 4.50 for these. They probably shouldn’t even charge $ 0.20, the fries were absolutely tasteless, one of the worst I’ve ever had. Although they looked good, they just had no flavor whatsoever. Way too many cooks, and people, get used to eating bland food and this place is a classic example of everybody loving bland food. Now bland food is not bad in and of itself, some people just like bland food. Some people just don’t like bold flavors or spices, but people seem to think bland is good. Bland is bland, plain and simple. This place does not warrant a second visit. I will continue my search for a good hotdog somewhere in Danbury and the surrounding area.

Not much here for vegetarians but I’d recommend the grapenut custard. It’s like a flan but very nutty and delicious.

Ordered a fruit punch and it tasted like very, very, VERY bland kool-aid. No flavor and what flavor it did have was that of a very cheap powder mix. I’d be embarrassed to serve that at my house. To non-discerning children, even. I sent it back and got water. The club sandwiches we got were good. They weren’t great, but they were your standard club sandwiches. The fries were great. Best part of the meal. No complaints there. Dessert was the biggest disappointment. The waitress told us they were well-known for their rice pudding. We both love rice pudding with all our hearts, so we foolishly ordered 2. Thankfully, we asked for whip cream, so we were able to eat at least some of our dessert. The rice pudding was clumpy and soggy like a wet egg white custard. It had absolutely NO flavor. None. It wasn’t sweet, it wasn’t cinnamony. It was just a wet, clumpy mess of custardy pudding filled with bland, al-dente rice. Laughable. We couldn’t believe how truly awful it was or that any restaurant would serve that. I’d pay 3 times as much for a tub of rice pudding from the supermarket before I’d ever order that again. Embarrassingly bad and really left a bad taste in our mouths — no pun intended. The whip cream wasn’t great either, but at least it was slightly sweet, so we ate it. I think I’d stick to breakfast stuff at this place, should I ever return. And water. I’ll stick to water.

I got the jk cheese steak with provolone cheese and grilled onions. No lettuce or tomato. Best cheese steak I’ve ever had! Better than Pats and Gino’s in philly.

Takes you back for sure. I’ve been here twice and I have to agree with some of the other reviewers when they say it’s nostalgic. It surely looks like a place from the 70’s or 80’s for sure and that is a very good thing in today’s world. The décor is very comfortable. The staff is very friendly and both waitresses I had were very pleasant. I ordered my typical bacon cheeseburger and the fries. The burger was just fine and the fries were as good as I would expect there to be. I know they’re more famous for their hot dogs, but I have yet to try them and hopefully will one day. The menu is pretty sizable and reasonable. Has it’s own parking lot in the rear. As another reviewer said, it’s a hidden gem… literally. I’ve passed by here plenty of times without ever even realizing it was there. If you’re in the area, be sure to check it out.

The burgers and mac salad are the items to sample. If u r from NYC the hot dogs are good but can’t compare to competitive hot dog brands. When in Danbury I would go again for the mac salad which is light and salted just right and the hamburger juicy when give the rare request. I’ll be back.

This place is so nostalgic to my childhood when I travels with my dad(a former truck driver) these were the places he would stop at. It is pure Americana and in very good shape for what I would assume to be a 40+ year old establishment. The décor is right out of a history book. So are the classic waitresses and the entire staffs cool JK logo shirts. All that’s missing are the paper hats. Now for the menu, it’s diner fare but the signature item is the hot dog. Texas Weiner to be exact and this one is no joke. The dog is delicious and tailer made for this site only. The rolls are also proprietary but they as well as the hot dogs are made off site. I sampled the hearty chili on 2 dogs and had an original Texas Weiner and let me tell you 3 is a bit much. 2 dogs will do it because the hot dogs are big and the bums are a bit more dense compared to the packaged ones you can buy at the grocery store. I would recommend this place to anyone Jones’in a chili dog. But my favorite was the Texas Weiner.

Decided to stop at JK’s based on Roadfood.com’s recommendations. Definitely yummy Texas Hot Weiners. Very good spicy ‘sauce’ & nicely grilled split dogs. Got mine with ‘the works’…sauce, onions & mustard. My husband tried his with ‘the works’ & chili. Yummy, but I’d stick to just the ‘sauce.’ Only downfall… I was hoping for fresh battered onion rings, but received standard breaded rings. Although still very tasty, kind of not what I was hoping for. Cool home-town place to stop when traveling through Danbury!

Great local place in Danbury. We loved the«Donald»; french toast bread sandwich with ham and cheese. Plus, we tired one of the original hot dogs. Great chili on the dog, nicely steamed bun and great hotdog. We also go the club sandwich with roast beef and bacon. All were great, the only downside was the coffee; it was made more like my mom would like it. I prefer it dark and strong. Their coffee was too weak for me. The coffee was not bad, just too weak. Great local place with a good story and still ran by the family. They have breakfast all day too.

I LOVEJK’s!!! Danbury’s legendary restaurant. The Wieners are amazing. The Meatball Grinder is my favorite. And French fries with gravy. If you want comfort food, this is the best place in Danbury to do it. Remember to bring cash though! They don’t take credit cards.

This is a local neighborhood spot with lots of regulars. We had the patty melt and it was chock full of nicely caramelize onions and plenty of cheese and perfectly toasted bread. It came with a side of excellent and creamy cole slaw and we ordered a small onion ring order and it was a lot. Really enjoyed our meal here. Plan to be back.
