Lots of unrealized potential. Was here twice. First time, the parking lot was so bad, had to park next door at a closed establishment. Went inside only to find a wait that was long enough to watch the wool grow on a sheep’s back. Left and went across the street to Molly’s. Second time — better parking lot. Ate at the bar. Menu was uninspiring. Tap selection was very substandard. had an appetizer and left to go elsewhere. Has potential(it’s beautiful inside), but needs to fix:(1) Parking,(2) Beer Tap Selection, and(3) Menu. I want to be inspired to eat and try things. My dining partner had he same impression, so it wasn’t just me. Go elsewhere. Nothing to write home about at all.

Absolutely wonderful meal. Food was perfect and the service was impeccable. Ask for Tony R, he made our dining experience terrific!

I used to just think this was an over priced meat market. And, to be honest, I was just there on a Friday night, it’s still a bit of a meat market. But with their revamped menu it’s dinner and a show. My husband and I had the calamari and wings as appetizers. We always say you can tell a good place by their calamari and Max 40 did not disappoint. It was cooked perfectly with no «tentacles» which makes my husband happy and was a very generous portion with a yummy chipotle like sauce that was a nice change from the usual marinara. The wings were ok, we got barbecue will probably try spicy next time. I got the seafood platter and I was going to make it 4 star because the oysters were a bit small but the clams and lobster were delicious and the cocktail sauce mixed with horseradish was really superb. My husband got the tuna and was quite happy. They gained the star back when the bus girl took my glass of wine with a sip left. My husband told the waiter and he comped me a glass. That is a sign of a classy place and a good waiter. I’ve been here before and been less than impressed. After tonight I will definitely go back. I am glad I gave this place a second chance. If you like good food, good staff and good people watching I highly recommend it. 2÷13÷16 update Stick with the bar. Tried the dining room. Wondered why they had tables open on Valentine’s Day weekend. My dinner was great but I had the fish. My husband ordered his steak medium and it was rare. The lighting is so bad he didn’t realize it until he was already into it and our waiter was nowhere to be found so he just sucked it up. Our waiter was so lazy, we had to ask how specials were cooked, when I said I loved the cocktail sauce and asked if it was homemade he said«good question» but never answered it. Dirty dishes sat at the table way too long. I could go on. And he wasn’t busy. Their prices are as high or higher as Black Angus but there is a reason that place was sold out. Definitely won’t make that mistake again.

They should change the name to misogyny forty. There were three women in our party. To say we were ignored would be an understatement. The food is pedestrian. We had to practically trip the waiter to get bread, order, get coffee and get the bill. Never going back.

I don’t typically go out of my way to come to Max 40 just because there are better bars on Mill Plain, as well as better restaurants, but when you’re with a group of people who agree to come here, it’s not like you’re going to be the odd one out and decline. Right? The parking lot is an absolute nightmare, but that can be said for both Zen and the Max liquor store, not really a solo establishment issue. I’m not a fan of the bar crowd here, seems like a lot of middle-aged people drenched in cologne/perfume and standing around the bar area, making a bit difficult to traverse around occasionally. I’ve eaten the food, specifically a burger, and it was just alright, nothing crazy. Tap list is meh and the Old Fashioned I had one night wasn’t anything to write home about. It’s also super dark sometimes, even in the dining areas where it’s nice to see your food, so there’s that. Not a fan, but again, I wouldn’t be ‘that guy’ to try changing everyone’s mind if I was with a group of people.

Nothing to write home about. The food was good but nothing to pay their prices over. The wait staff seemed unknowledgeable about the wine, befuddled, and distracted(perhaps the B-team). My FIL ordered a brandy Manhattan that came out in a martini glass and the waiter told him«well that’s what you ordered!» Our steaks came out slightly undercooked and they had run out of scallops. Sadly we will not be back– they think way too highly of themselves.

We had the rigatoni and the chicken under brick. Both dishes were excellent, generously portioned, reasonably priced and served piping hot. Could not have been more satisfied!

Nice atmosphere. Ok beer on tap, not much of selection. Bartender didn’t really know what she had. Food was ok, nothing to brag about. We had to ask bartender for a lot of things that should just be immediately given to a customer — utensils, etc. & her service was provided with almost a snooty sneer when we asked for these things. This was not a great service oriented place, but the atmosphere made up for lack of service & the food wasn’t great but it was hot.

The owner of this restaurant reached out to me on my review and made an effort to right a wrong. I was impressed by her quick response and willingness to make up for my last visit. The next time I am in CT I will give this places another try.

Love the big corner padded booth. Perfect for 6. Service, salads and drinks were delicious. Big bar to eat and drink at. Only downside is parking lot. Packed and not enough spots.

Had a celebratory lunch here & was very happy with the food/drinks/service/décor. The Grey Goose Dirty Martinis were on point! Fried Calamari was perfect. Also really happy & appreciated the authentic Veal Milanese. Almost forgot I had to return to work.

We went at 6:45 pm on a rainy Friday night and did not have to wait to be seated. We were given water at the table and then the waiter came by with the menus. He gave us some time to read the menu and make our choice. The menu was limited, but covered most areas of food. I chose the 10 oz. filet mignon and my husband the lobster roll. Both of us absolutely loved our meals! The steak was flavorful and not smothered with seasoning. The great taste of the meat came through. The pre dinner salad was excellent, and the sides of my dinner, veggies and potatoe au gratin was out of this world. I forgot how much I liked potatoe au gratin! The price tag was a bit pricey considering we did not have alcohol, but we did have a couple of Devine desserts! This will be my new favorite place and definitely will be repeated!

Went there last night with a friend. The calamari was excellent. The eggplant appetizer was ok. Great ambiance though overall. Great pre-game spot

The food is about average for an Italian-American grill near NYC. We didn’t go for the dry aged beef, and still spent $ 125 for 2, with cocktails, 1 appetizer and 2 entrees. The«Chicken Under a Brick» was moist, the seared salmon was dry. Mediocre meal and spotty service for a «special night» price.

Came here for a drink on Sunday and must say this place is gorgeous. Huge open space, large bar, the windows are actually garage doors which is pretty cool. We came by around 1:30pm and it was pretty empty. We sat at the bar and just got cocktails, bartender was okay. I really enjoyed the décor and the look they are going for this place. Really nice. I will have to come by another time to try the food.

My little brother recently completed 8th grade and as a celebration dinner after the ceremony my family decided to go to Max 40. To sum up our experience, we were met with hostility from the hostess, the food was bland at best, and we generally felt like a burden while paying hundreds of dollars for our subpar dinner and service. When we arrived, I told the hostess, a woman with dark hair and a leopard print outfit(the first clue) that we would be a party of 8. She sat us in the bar at one of the high top tables. When my mother arrived a few moments later, she wanted to sit in the dining room because, after all, this was a celebration for my brother and there were two children present, so we would rather not sit in the bar. The hostess acted as though sitting us in the 75% empty dining area was a huge inconvenience. After we were sat, I went to use the restroom and was walking behind the hostess and realized she was about to complain about us to a waiter because he held up his finger to his lips to shush her because I was behind her. Absolutely unacceptable! Do your job and don’t complain about the people paying you! This event just started the night on the wrong foot. The waiter was actually fine, but the tone had already been set by the hostess. I can only speak personally about my meal, the one vegetarian option, but the salad dressing had zero flavor to it and my pasta was equally as bland. The consensus at the table was that the food was lacking inspiration. This was my first time here but obviously my last. My mother liked this place which is why she recommended it but I am doubtful she will be back either due to the fact the hostess was so unaccommodating and tried to gossip about her request to be seated at another table. When people go out to dinner they want the whole package– good food and good service. We had neither at Max 40. Honestly, I think service is even more essential than good food– I would work on remedying the hostess situation first and foremost if I were the owner.

Unbelievable lunch deal! $ 9 for a beer and 6 oysters. Place is beautiful, oysters were fresh, Eddie my waiter was fantastic. I will be back… with friends! Give this place a shot! You won’t regret it.
