Found my new go-to chocolate shop! Say no more to those shrink wrapped crappy boxed chocolates. These chocolates taste even better than Fannie Mae before it started being mass produced. The milk chocolate buttercream is the best thing you’ll put in your pie hole. The chocolate is smooth and creamy. The buttercream is sweet and silky with no throat burning sensation like you get with Fannie Mae’s. Need to give a shout out to the gentleman who helped me out. He was super nice and asked me if I wanted to try any samples. Does a bear sh*t in the woods? You know the company is doing it right when they let you try before you buy. I also found out from speaking with the guy who helped me that this is the sister store to the Old Fashioned Candies store in Berwyn. Which happens to have a Unilocal review of 5 stars with 30 reviews and has been in business since the 60’s. So you know they’re doing it right!

Old Fashioned Sweets is just what Darien needed. Not the extra calories, mind you, but a novelty candy store that you can dash into to get your chocolate fix or a last minute gift. First, the staff are super friendly and helpful. They make sure that you don’t leave unsatisfied. Their love for their shop is shared with their customers. On the two occasions I was there, the clerk helped me assemble gift baskets, paying extra attention to details such as the placement of the goodies and the color of ribbon used. You can get a beautiful and bountiful basket of treats for around $ 20(including candies, box, and decorations). It goes without saying that their candy treats are delicious and made in-house or at their sister store. My favorites are definitely the chocolate covered pretzels. You can purchase the twists by the bag, and they also have candy coated pretzel rods that go for 75 cents to $ 1.50 as I recall. They also have candy covered oreos that come in unique flavors, like key lime and berry. And speaking of unique flavors, they have lemon bark that has a smooth but strong citrus kick(comes in lime too). They have all this in addition to boxed chocolates, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and chocolate figures and pops. They also have vintage candies too, like this thing called sponge candy. Oh, by the way, they let you try pretty much everything they make. I swear I don’t work for them. I’m just excited to have a cute mom-and-pop shop like this in Darien. And if you’re feeling guilty after they’ve stuffed you with sweets, they have a gym in the same corner!

Talk about being a kid in a candy store! I can’t get enough of this chocolate. They have a lot of the vintage candy, but the chocolates they make is phenomenal! If I could eat their chocolate every day for the rest of my life, I think I can die happy. By the way, their peanut brittle is to DIE for! I hate any type of brittle or toffee, but I think this brittle is the best I’ve eaten. By the way, the sticker on the back of the brittle says it contains soy, so be careful if you have allergies!

Wall of vintage candies draws my kids attention(like wafer saucers and gummy worms and wax lips), but it’s the handmade confectionaries on the other side that draw mine! Have really fun and cute molded chocolate(like baby pacifiers and golf balls and graduation caps — which can be personalized). What I appreciated the most was that they make their own chocolate! I think I remember the owner saying it was a family recipe. Just stopped by one day… daughter going to a birthday party… looking for a gift topper. Super-friendly owner and staff asked about the party’s theme — Minion movie — they had minions on a stick! They also had quite a few chocolates great for teacher gifts and grad gifts. The chocolate is delish… really enjoyed their lime and lemon bark… and, of course, the kids loved all the old fashioned candy!

Rather a dangerous little shop next to The Frugal Muse. Nice selection of old-fashioned candies, plus misc chocolate novelty shapes and chocolates. This is the largest selection of cordials I’ve ever seen — half a dozen flavors, including Pina Colada and Tequila in addition to the usual liqueur type flavors. The chocolates are nice(available in dark and milk), though the creams are too sweet for my taste. Caramels are medium chewy, not liquid, not quite soft. The homemade toffee is delicious but sadly not available in dark chocolate. They also have sponge candy(plain and milk chocolate dipped). Very small selection of sugar-free available. Friendly service; looking forward to coming here again.

Large variety of hand-dipped sweets. My favorite is a tie between chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate covered Oreos. Perfect local place to satisfy your sweet tooth. Highly recommend– and great customer service too!

Very high quality products and friendly staff! Had chocolate strawberries and the cutest chocolate suckers made for my baby shower! Everything was made nicely and absolutely delicious. I would have took pictures but everyone ate it all so fast! They have a wide variety of sweets as well as a very clean and organized shop. Definitely recommend for events or just stopping in to get a few sweet treats, you won’t regret it! Will be going back very soon!
