Very good and filling, but also prices are somewhat high for a burger joint. This place has tons to choose from to keep any burger lover nice and happy and most importantly full.

Apparently, Tuesday is BYOB day for $ 3.99 with a purchase of medium drink. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Not sure what she wrote on the ticket. My burger did not have any bacon, ketchup or mayo that I ordered. The burger was dwarfed by the iceberg lettuce and raw onion. The burger was flat 8oz piece of meat with no taste. The hand cut fries were flavorless till I put salt & pepper. Sorry, I was disappointed with my first and only visit.

Service and food were excellent tonight… Got the Tuesday burger deal… awesome burgers and the girl at the counter with the glasses was very friendly! We will definitely be back

Great place to stop for a tasty meal at a reasonable price. Food was ready quickly and they offered to refill my drink while I was waiting.

Burger — Good, not the best I’ve ever had but definitely solid. Nice backyard grill char flavor.

Nothing more to say than, BEST CHICKEN place ever! I wish they hadn’t moved from New Bedford to Dartmouth but they are so good. I always get the football special for my family of four! 20 chicken tenders, box of fries and a 2liter! Yum

First time eating here yesterday, got fish n chips. I did not really care for the fish, but the french fries were o-​k. Great customer service, I had no waiting time everything was ready in about 5 minutes. Maybe they are better known for their burgers, maybe I will try one one day.

Had Hawaiian burger, Full Monty, steamed hot dogs, and suicide wings. Service was so friendly and good. The food was out of this world. Real flame grilled burgers. Had the flame kisses charred taste. WOW!

Awesome little spot for a quick bite. Portions are huge and very affordable. The clam cakes and chowder have to be some of the best I’ve had. I would like to see them get some new ice cream flavors, like cookie dough, though. The staff is always friendly :)

Lets see. Better fries than 5 Guys. Better service than 5 Guys. More options than 5 Guys. And better burgers than 5 Guys.
This nondescript store front has a whole lot more than you would think in a great burger experience. Beyond pleasantly surprised.
We all got combos which comes with fries and drinks. We all got burgers and we all agreed it was a great burger. Even though it is small inside the tables and chairs were nice but almost everyone seemed to be getting takeout.
If I am in the area again I would go here in a heart beat.

Used to go here all the time in college. Love the wings (buffacue sauce is delicious). Friendly people and also offer some pretty good dogs and burgers too.

Family outing. I have had better hot dogs around town. I might go back to taste the burgers.

Asked for a lettuce burger and to my surprise received a burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a hamburger sitting on a plate of lettuce. I really enjoyed my burger!

I’ve eaten here a few times but the last 2x we where just disappointed. Onion rings super greasy n the burgers which used to be my favorite part is now making me wanna puke just typing this… it was so charred I’ve been burping it up all day. My stomach is so upset as well my fiancé too. He’s worse off then me he’s been in the bathroom All day in pain I think something went wrong here… well sorry maxs no more business from us…

Food was amazing. Staff was great. The only reason I am giving them 4 stars instead if 5 is due to prices. Two burgers, fries and onion rings $ 25. That’s a bit expensive for a counter service resturant.

Just left Max’s having had lunch there for a second day. Onion rings are outstanding. Clam chowder is thick with lots of clams. The place including the restroom is very clean. The staff is very friendly. Food is fresh and very good. I’ll be returning.

Great food and great service. I have been going to this establishment all throughout school and have never been disappointed.
Each time I have gone the burgers have been juicy and had the perfect amount of toppings. Some places put too little toppings and some put too much, Max’s puts enough where you get a solid portion, but not so much that half of it ends up on your plate.
The people behind the counter are always super nice. Very polite and will bring your food directly to you as opposed to simply screaming your name and making you get up. Not that I would be against getting up to grab my food, it just adds a nice touch.
You can also call your order in ahead of time which was helpful because over the summer I would go during my lunch break, I would call 5 to 10 minutes ahead of time and almost always had my food waiting for me when I got there (if it was not it was only a matter of minutes before I got it)
Great place, definitely somewhere to become a regular.

I have had food from this establishment 3 times now, and have waited to see if I got the same quality every time. I can tell you that indeed I did!!!
Sunday my husband stopped in to get a couple of burgers (for friends) and a seafood plate for myself. He RAVED about the burger he had the Hawaiian and loved it!
The seafood was FANTASTIC! the scallops were cooked perfectly along with the fish, clams and the shrimp (which were de-​veined *awesome*!) the only sub-​par thing in that meal was the fries… They didn’t taste cooked all the way through, almost like there was too much in the fry basket. No big deal, too full with everything else to eat them. I am not a fan of coleslaw (unless it’s KFC), so I did not care for that either.
The potato skins were also good, full of butter, sour cream, cheese and bacon! they were so yummy and really hot even after taking them home to NB…
Yesterday, we stopped in again since my husband was in love with his burger and I tried the Hawaiian and it was AMAZING!!! The combination of the pineapple, BBQ sauce and flame broiled burger was sooo good! There is bacon involved, but in all honestly everything drowns it out (so it may not be needed) I LOVE THIS BURGER! I also had curly fries with it and they too were fresh and crispy and well cooked!
We stopped in again today for the same experience, and no different, everything was to PERFECTION!
I find myself craving this burger now! The owners were there yesterday and today, both are super nice and welcoming!!! They know how to treat their customers. I will definitely be going in more often, I can’t say enough good things!!!
You can’t get the quality of the burger here anywhere unless you want to drive to RI (Lux Burger & Crazy Burger) and the prices are OUTSTANDING! So please stop and and show some love!!!

I don’t give out many 5 star reviews but I think that Max’s in Dartmouth MA is something that is special and deserves it. First of all let me say that I have been to Max’s four times now and each time have walked away thinking «Wow, I’m going to bring one of my friends here tomorrow» but let me not get too ahead of myself and start from the beginning.
Max’s is a quaint little burger shack located on State St in Dartmouth (Right next to the famed «Gumbo’s Chinese Restaurant». Max’s is small inside but it has some nice window stools and a friendly atmosphere. Where Max’s shines is their food seconded only by their hospitality.
Now, if you have read any of my reviews in the past you will see that passion goes a long way with me. It is always about the little things, the details. Things that other places overlook, and Max’s has passion in spades. Their burgers are flame broiled to perfection, while staying juicy and flavorful along the way. The size of their burgers is very impressive, especially for the price that they are charging for these things. There is no doubt about it, for about a buck more than you would pay at one of those «fast food» places you can have a burger that is personally made for you and is as fresh as you would hope for every time you visit.
The owners of the business take great pride in their food, and they should. Burgers are masterfully crafted with different flavor combinations and served up to perfection. My favorite so far is definitely the Hawaiian burger which consists of a grilled piece of pineapple, bacon and bbq sauce. My second try of this burger I added jalepenos just to put some kick in there but, the saltiness of the grilled pineapple accompanies the burger and the bacon to add this amazing balance of flavors.
The Sloppy Burger is a sight to behold… but NOTHING you could ever dream of picking up and eating. Imagine the best Chili Cheese dog you’ve ever had… now remove the hoddog and put a delicious all beef patty that has been grilled to perfection on a fresh hot sesame seed bun…
Their potato skins are a completely different level of amazing. Filled with cream cheese, bacon and cheese and fried to a sinful golden deliciousness.
Honestly, for the money I cannot think of a better meal you can find in this area. My wife and I got two enormous burgers and an order of those amazing potato skins and it came in well under $ 20…
To say that this place is a MUST VISIT is an understatement and I hope everybody comes out to this wonderful local treasure and gives them a try. I’m fairly certain once you do you will find yourself gushing about this place as much as I have.

My husband and I decided to give this place a try after I saw it on phantom gourmet yesterday. The food looked great on tv, big surprise! They are home of the BAB (big ass burger food challenge).
My husband and I got a burger he got the sloppy burger and I got the buffalo burger and we split the potato skins. After biting in to my burger I got a mouth full of charred burger, as if they haven’t scraped the grill clean in a decade. I can’t get the taste out of my mouth, I didn’t finish it needless to say and as I type this I’m actually getting sick thinking about it. The potato skins weren’t anything spectacular either, they’re «stuffed» with sour cream cheese and bacon, way too much sour cream even for me and I love condiments. My husbands burger was just ok from what he said, he has no desire to return either. The chili and cheese they topped his burger with is the stuff you get out of a bag and it was just gross looking. Wasn’t impressed. I could grill a burger better and I get paid a lot less for it.
The girl who was taking our order was very nice and she brought our food out to us and made sure to ask how everything was and if we needed anything, upon walking in it was as if the men working the grill hadn’t seen a person in a year, they just sat and stared like they were in awe lol. My one star will go to the girl who took our order! She was nice!

Cowboy burger was pretty tasty and the patties taste like they might be marinated with A1 sauce.
Wings were surprisingly good too, though way too expensive.
