Great authentic German food and beer! Really great service! They were very busy Columbus Day weekend, but we were greeted instantly, told to find ourselves a seat and they’d be right with us. A nice waitress came over within 5 minutes and took our order. We had a beer within another 5 minutes– and mind you this place was PACKED and understaffed– and they still made it happen with a smile on their faces. Sure they weren’t sticking around to chat us up, they simply had no time. But they got to us, got us seated, got our orders and got our drinks in under 15 minutes and the place was PACKED. I was happy with everything, the food, and I’m picky about German brats, was authentic. Great place to watch a little football, eat a brat and drink a craft brew.

After a long day hiking this place was an oasis. A quick bowl of the house chili set me right. But it was the beer I really came for… The Marzen– an Oktoberfest brew– was exactly what I needed to balance out the day. None of that Punkin spice or nutmeg and clove here… Just a balanced fall ale that finished smoothly. The menu is short– only a few items plus a special or two(try the bratwurst!) For a small town flanked by WVA mountains ya can’t go wrong. Take home a growler… You won’t be dissatisfied!

The food is great here with some nice beer choices. You have some 3 HDTVs inside and plenty of seating space. Pool table and other entertainment. If you are not a fan of dark beer be prepared to try the Angus Macker Bawdy County Sweet Oatmeal Stout to change your mind. Can be a bit pricey.

I did not eat here, but came by in part of my WV brewery tour this summer. I had a delicious flight; the oatmeal stout was by far my favorite. Unlike most other stouts, it was pleasantly bitter — which I LOVE. Unfortunately we went on a very hot day and it was just too hot to hang out for a long time in a place with limited ventilation.

Excellent fare, very tasty! Locally grown selections too. And the selection of brews was enough to satisfy the most discriminating of ale palates. Two thumbs up!

LOVEITHERE!!! The beer is awesome; there are 5 on tap and their tasting set-up is really great, it totally helped me nail down what I wanted to order. The staff is super nice, incredibly friendly, and knowledgeable about the beer on tap but I think my favorite thing about the place is its set-up! They have tables to eat at, a bar, couches to lounge in, and then a bunch of different games you can play while you’re drinking, I think they also have a fire place too. We played shuffle board and pool but they also have darts and it looked like there was a dance floor too! Come for great beer, super friendly staff, and an awesome atmosphere that is really fun to hang in!!!

This was awesome!!! My newly husband and I were up here(from Baltimore) for our little honeymoon. We had dinner and really wanted somewhere to just have a couple beers and relax. We went to Mountain State Brewery which was awesome, then ate some burritos. We came to Blackwater brewery not thinking we would get much because it didn’t seem like a «popular» place. We walked in and it was quiet but comfortable, the women who served us was very friendly and the owner(Lincoln) was amazing!!! I would recommend this place to anyone. I had the stout which was one of the best I’ve had and I’m picky about my stouts. Definitely somewhere you can unwind! ENJOY

Excellent food! The food takes a while because they have one cook, but it is an amazing experience!

Love this place. Great beer — lots of old-world style ales(the EPA is my favorite, followed by the oatmeal stout in a close second), solid rotating menu, friendly and helpful staff, and a lovely atmosphere complete with roaring fire, all sorts of games(darts, foosball, shuffleboard, pool…), and TVs so you can catch the game.

From the outside it looks like someone’s trailer but get past the looks and you can have a decent time. Service is very friendly, the staff is small but they are attentive and helpful. Very limited menu and apparently it changes from week to week depending on what the owner/brew-master feels like putting out there. I was able to try some chicken wings that we cooked nicely and of a decent size. This place is about the beers, they have a variety on tap, I recommend getting the flight of their available options to see which better fits your needs, they tend to go light to dark and there is one that should meet any beer drinkers standards. This place is good for general gathering, they have a couple of TV usually turned to West Virgina games in the Mountaineers are playing You can also just sit around, play Foosball, darts or pool, they’ll even provide you playing cards if you want them, Decent little spot to visit if you’re visiting the nearby Blackwater Falls.

We visited on a Saturday while staying in a cabin at Blackwater Falls State Park. Upon entering, the waitress/bartender/only person who seemed to be working informed us it would be about 20 min before she could take our order. We only came in for a beer but decided to wait. She continued to tell everyone that came in that it would be a long wait which is a total turn off. She seemed completely overwhelmed. The server was actually very nice and was trying her best but she obviously needed more help. Beer was good but could have been colder. Prices were decent.

Beer was watery, not cold enough and not carbonated enough– we got the bruschetta and the fish sandwich– the fish sandwich was obviously frozen and frost bitten– we couldn’t eat it– bruschetta wasn’t that great either– would not recommend it

This place has great potential. I love the space and the burger was great. The fried pickles were delish as well. I’m sure they will continue to craft their skills.

Not big beer drinker but thought the sample I had was really good. Lots of German fare, tried the bratwurst which was great, boyfriend had hot wings and would get those again. Nice staff, decent prices.

It was a wonderfully hidden gem in a not so hoppin’ area. We came here on a whim and so glad we did. The beer was great and the wings were delicious with their homemade sauces. The owner and staff were great to speak to and overall was a great night.

Stopped in for some beers — fantastic !! Amazingly fantastic Kolsh, great EPA and the service was fantastic and food was really good. Nice people, intelligent brewer with some real skills and fun time. Very pleased and will come here again! Some if the best beer in US

I really want so badly to like this place, but I just can’t. Its such a shame because its a local brewery, and West Virginia doesn’t have many. The beer is flat and mostly tasteless, with no body. The food is not much better.

Great local beer. I found that the owner just took over the place and is in the process of re shaping it. The food menu is small but good. The fries are home-made and very tasty. This place had potential.

If you are going just for the beer, it was terrific. The food, not so much. I got the trout and it was under seasoned and just all right. The hubby got the snitzle and again, just all right. The food is nothing spectacular. The beer however… we got a light ale and(forgive me if that is not the right way to say it but I am no beer expert) was just fabulous! It was light and crisp. I would say stop for the beer, not the food.

Rather disappointed in this place really. The second star came from a decent schnitzel that I had(the jaeger). The rest of the food was ok, but the spaetzle was uninspired and pasty. Service was slow, even though there were only three tables in the bar area, with us being the first there. The beer was the real disappointment. I got a flight of samples, and 4 out of the six were intolerably bad by microbrewery standards(all the light beers). The light beers were watery, under-carbonated and possibly stale. The IPA was the worst of those four, with an odd/off hop aroma and flavor that was almost soapy, underwhelming, under-powering and about the worst IPA I’ve ever had. The porter and the stout were tolerable, but again suffered under-carbonation and wateriness. Given the stark comparison beer-for-beer to mountain state down the road, there is absolutely no reason in my mind to drink the beer here. But if you do, drink the darker beers on the menu. The décor I guess gives it the first star, it’s pretty charming and european on the inside with a great fireplace and open brewery behind the bar.
