This was one of those places that I’d always pass by, but never got myself to actually go inside and try. After eating here, I decided that this is a good place to go to get rid of your sushi cravings for a reasonable price. I opted to order off the menu and got the Philadelphia Roll and Dynamite Roll. Both were pretty decent. The Philly had more cream cheese than salmon, so the taste of cream cheese was a little overbearing. I don’t know why I ordered the Dynamite; it has shrimp, which I hate, but it was tempura so it had a nice crunch to it. Plus, the various toppings added a lot of flavor to the roll. They also give free miso soup and edamame with any main course order. It came out to around $ 15. This isn’t high quality sushi, but all in all, I will probably be back if I ever have a sushi craving.

They have all kinds of sushi items and some other stuff like fruits, salads, desert. Unfortunately nothing tastes good. So yes the price seems pretty cheap but in the end you don’t get to eat much because the food is simply not good.

Very inexpensive for a sushi buffet. Decent quality fish and fairly attentive staff. Lots of little things are included like miso soup, menu orders, and desserts. Came here for a late lunch on our way to Tahoe. Had salmon /tuna sashimi, salmon /tuna nigiri, dragon roll, Davis roll, and more. Particularly liked the fried oysters. Great deal!

I pass by this spot everyday because I work at UCD but never like the sushi in Davis. Yes I got spoiled by SF where I grew up. Until I got to Davis Sushi, I have been spoiled again with their all you can eat sushi and sashimi. Of course the quality is as fresh as much the money you pay for all you can eat. Price is reasonable for student budget. I love their sushi boat around the bar with little plates for display and enjoy. Their salmon sashimi is good and I saw a lot of customers take those. Good deal right? We enjoyed our experience there with good service and«clean water» glass!

We love Davis sushi buffet for years recommended by a friend from Reno who used to learn in UCD. This is family local owned for years and of course we come here for local business. Locals buy locals. The sushi is fresh and rotated on a long curve of the small«river» — my kids love to see it a lot. We love their fast service with some unagi rolls and spider rolls. I will come back and recommended to my friends again.

Came here with some friends who are UCD alums. They very highly recommended this place for cheap AYCE sushi. SERVICE: this is a cross of a buffet and revolving sushi type of restaurant. They have regular tables around the restaurant, but all the food comes out onto a revolving sushi bar. So your best seats will be right at the bar(otherwise you have to keep walking back and forth from your table to get food). It’s nice if you don’t like ordering and waiting for food to come out, but kind of a pain if you aren’t seated at the bar or you like having more than 2 pieces of nigiri at a time(NOTE: sashimi and hand rolls need to be ordered) MENU: the menu is pretty extensive — there’s a large selection of rolls, nigiri, hand rolls, and fried/hot bar items such as fried rice. There’s also appetizers like gyoza and seaweed salad. Best of all, they have SASHIMI! FOODQUALITY: the fish quality wasn’t bad — everything was pretty fresh including all the sashimi pieces(mixed sashimi is 7 pieces of salmon, tuna, octopus, yellowtail, hamachi). The mackerel was also fresh and salty as it should be. The masago(fish roe) and tamago(egg) nigiri were good too. It was weird how they cut their fish though. each piece of sashimi was cut in a diamond shape and super thin. TASTE: while the fish was fresh, the taste of the rolls that had sauce weren’t authentic. The most DISAPPOINTING was the UNAGI(BBQ eel). It wasn’t barbecued at all, and the sauce with it was way too sweet! Unagi isn’t suppose to be that sweet! I had to abandon my unagi hand roll after only taking one bite… I also didn’t like that the rolls looked like they were all smothered in sauces. OVERALL: not bad if you’re looking for quantity and don’t care as much about quality/authenticity.

This is local sushi restaurant owned nearly a decade ago. I am happy because they are still in business and have been doing well. Of course this is student-like crowd corner and perfect for those who love in/out service. I was a student of UCD about 5 years ago and I understand why my all ex-roommates loved to come here for«good» sushi when we were at low budget after the 3rd every month. I am nearly surprised at the unchanged price after a while and it is funny for me to pay them at the cashier with my engineer paycheck today. I just told the cashier there«keep the price and quality same like it for next 5 years». I will come back with my wife and 2 kids on my next trip to visit my Bio prof. there again.

TL;DR: Boat sushi. Good quality. Better sushi than hot food. The charm of Davis Sushi Buffet is its train of floating boats carrying plates of unlimited sushi. There’s no need to wait for popular items like Salmon nigiri or California rolls because there’s always a plate or two on rotation for you to grab. If they don’t have something you like, you can order it through the server. Occasionally, other things will pop up like fried fish balls or steamed pork bao. Hot food like chow mein, fried rice, gyoza, shrimp tempura, are served on the side at the hot bar. Quality wise, the sushi is pretty decent for a sushi buffet. It’s definitely better than your seafood buffets like Tomi or Todai. The hot food, however, isn’t the best. The gyoza and chicken skewers aren’t the greatest; I’ve definitely had better from Jusco where they make it fresh. The majority of my meal was sushi, and I had a few bites of hot food for good measure. I’ve only been to this place and Jusco and the jury is still out on which one is the best. If you’re looking to fill up on primarily sushi, go with Davis Sushi Buffet. If you want a balance of sushi and hot food, go with Jusco.

Firstly this place smells when you first walk in, and the floating sushi bar looks like it has not been cleaned in years. The wait staff was not very attentive or courteous. In addition our entire table got dirty glasses and we had to ask for new glasses, and two of them were still dirty. The food is cheap and you get a lot but it tastes terrible. I would never go here again and I regret even going the first time.

I would rate the food itself as 3 stars. There are certain rolls that were good but not a lot. I didn’t have as much variety as I would like. Not many desserts. I didn’t see any Korean ribs on the boat like pictures(at least for Thanksgiving lunch, which I paid dinner price for). I did try most of the rolls and nothing made me go nuts and want more of… 1 extra star is for the extremely friendly and attentive staff and being opened on Thanksgiving lunch to satisfy my craving.

3.5STARS Just a short way from Fuji AYCE Sushi, Davis is a solid competitor. The place looks and feels cleaner inside and food is on the same quality level. Many of the items Fuji has removed from their menu are still available here at DSB. Korean BBQ, spare ribs, honey walnut shrimp are all available in the serve yourself buffet. My only complaint here would be that the buffet is not heated so the food is cold or warm. Lunch is $ 13.95 and Dinner is $ 17.95, dinner also includes a drink so the price is affordable. Our favorite item here was the soft shell crab hand roll which was delish! Oh one word of warning, when you order rolls they are HUGE, maybe you can request ½ orders that way you can try more items before getting full :) Overall DSB is a good AYCE sushi spot and I prefer it over Fuji.

Solid sushi buffet. There’s a good variety of rolls, sashimi, and dessert/fruits! You can grab sushi rolls off the boats or you can order from the waiter for bigger rolls. I like the salmon skill rolls, miso soup and sashimi. Also, I had a pretty good coffee flavored mousse at the buffet. It’s not the BEST quality that you will find, but it’s an AYCE place… so it’s quantity over quality. It will certainly satisfy your sushi cravings though as long as you aren’t a sushi snob. :)

$ 13.95 for all you can eat during lunchtime. The price says it all. It is worth it because the price is cheap but you only get average sushi. I think i’m spoiled from bay area sushi so I would only come here if i am really craving sushi and don’t care much about quality. Get the sashimi on the ordering menu if you like raw fish. This way, you don’t have to be full from all the rice. I sat in the bar and I didn’t know you could order things from the menu. I wish they told us earlier how this place works as I arrived. One of the servers came up to my party after 30 mins in and asked if we wanted to order anything. I was confused because i thought we could only eat what was on the sushi belt. He handed me a menu after, but the menu was so dirty. There is a bar near the back for desserts, shrimp tempura, chicken wings, and some other random fried food. I wouldn’t recommend anything there except the fresh fruits. The chicken wings were very tasteless. Overall, I would come back again since the price is low and the food isn’t terrible.

Used to come here all the time in college until I worked there for five quarters during the regular school yeah, then I stopped going all together. The practice was, whatever fish on the plate on those boats that weren’t eaten, would be picked up and be put in a bowl for the next opening whether it be lunch or dinner. So if u must go, don’t be the first in line or else ur eating fish that’s been previously left from the last business hours! If u must eat there, just stick with salmon because people eat that the most and salmon is decently fresh compared to tuna!

Went here on a Sunday. There are open 7 days a week & close at 9pm on Sunday. Their all-you-can-eat buffet is $ 13.95 pp for lunch or $ 17.95 pp for dinner. They 2TV’s playing the game, so that’s a plus. There is a ton of seating, at the bar & at the tables. You go up to where the little boats are carrying the plates of sushi, SUPERCUTE! Like legit wooden boats floating in the water. lol. If you don’t see anything you like, the waiters are always readily available to take your order. It’s all you can eat so anything on the menu is also a part of that deal. A win if you are starving! They have a little station at the corner that you can get the fried foods, chow & desserts. The chow main was not good, tasted like it was there for a while. I ordered the Vegetable Tempura which comes with tempura fried sweet potatoes, broccoli, onions & cucumbers. With the sauce, yummers! Their seaweed salad is pretty good! They cleared our dirty plates off of our tables regularly & filled out waters. Great service :) Oh! You pay up front, just FYI.

Davis Sushi Buffet’s big advantage over Fuji’s Sushi Buffet(also in downtown Davis) is that you can order rolls, nigiri, and other items a la carte if you’re not in the mood for the buffet. My friend and I shared three(large and good quality) rolls for about $ 12 each(not including tip). The courteous staff also offered complimentary miso soup and beans. The buffet’s about average for a sushi buffet — not brilliant sushi, but good for the price. If you’re ordering a la carte and hungry, I highly recommend the enormous dynamite roll($ 10). You can also order a la carte to-go. I’ll definitely be a repeat customer.

My roommate and I like coming here every so often to stuff ourselves full of sushi to satisfy any cravings that she has. Quality isn’t all there but quantity for sure. The sashimi isn’t the freshest and occasionally I would taste a frozen bite. It’s nice that you can order sashimi by the plates. For a sushi buffet, it’s decent but could be much better. First thing though, I feel that food standards and behind the line rules are very relaxed here. I’ve seen someone behind the line using bare hands to make a nigri, touch other things not related to food and then go back to making more. The paper menus look ancient and makes me weary to touch them. When ordering directly from the chef, it’s a bit difficult since there are a lot of things between them and the bar seats. It is easier to tell a waiter but they do take a while to get the order in. There is a hot food bar at the left side of the restaurant with noodles, fried rice, chicken and other random things. It has desserts with some fruits and cream puffs. It the food really looks sad sitting there; it isn’t quite hot and can be very oily. I’ve had a chicken wing that was pink on the inside while another was very dry. As for the food on the boats, I like that they have little portions of seaweed salad with an octopus salad(I can just have a little of both without grabbing a plate of each item). They have some dim sum but it’s the frozen ones that seemed to be re-steamed(I’ve seen them available in the frozen section of 99 Ranch). Final Thoughts: All in all, it’s a sushi buffet that caters to college students. I can’t really expect too much out of this place except a full tummy(not always happy) and a $ 16 check for a lunch meal.

First time going to davis for sushi and maybe my last. I stopped by another sushi spot before this one but it was more crowded i wonder why, we just decided to try this sushi boat restaurant my friend was dying to try, since they have one in the bay area which he thinks is awesome. We came hungry i pulled up a chair sat down and went to town. I ended up paying 20 dollars, this is a all you can eat buffett so i should have known the food wouldn’t be that good i mean it was ok but next time i definitely will just pay extra for a fresh plate of sushi then it not being the way i would like it to taste. Overall would i give it a second chance possibly the food def looked good i just feel like they could have made it better that’s all.

We drive all the way from Cupertino to eat here, regardless of the weather condition. They sushi is good, but not really impressive. But their sashimi has always been fresh when they bring it out to you. You have to ask the the people behind the counter for them. It comes out fast with a reasonable serving size. Do not wait for it on the sushi boat. The side dishes are so so. Their lunch starts at 10:30 ends at around 2:30 and dinner from 4:30 — 9:00 so make sure you get there on time.
