Haute Again

Just moved to Davis a few months ago. Wandered into this little shop and found amazing and beautiful clothes! No, they weren’t at dirt cheap thrift shop prices, but I paid for quality at a fraction of what the items would have cost new. I bought a beautiful Italian coat for $ 60 that I’m sure would been hundreds new. (In perfect condition, I get compliments every time I wear it!). Also a lovely gathered knit skirt that is comfortable and pretty for $ 25 and a simple black leather purse, not a name brand. on sale for $ 10. Since the shop is small (despite being 2 stories) I like that the owner let me wander and take my time without hovering over me, but when I asked for help to get something down she was warm and accommodating. I had a great shopping experience there, the clothes were in perfect condition, and I will definitely go back! (ps I do not know the owner, she’s not a friend, this is a real review.)

This is a pretty cute shop with friendly staff. However, most of the stuff is pretty expensive for a consignment shop. I looked around the store and saw dresses that were marked as if they were brand new. For example, I remember seeing a used Ann Taylor dress that was $ 50 – 60. I put the dress down in disappointment. They had Coach bags that were slightly discounted but comparable to retail prices. If you go down the street to SPCA or Goodwill, you can find similar items that are super affordable. I got a practically brand new Coach bag for $ 5 at the SPCA. I understand that this shop is located in downtown and is also a consignment shop, not a thrift store, but if they made their prices more affordable, I’m sure they would get a lot more customers. The other consignment store near the University (Boheme something) has stuff that is slightly more expensive than the thrift stores but customers feel like they’ve found some good deals rather than feel like they are paying retail prices.

I was just walking by when this place caught my eye. I was about to open the door when a lady came rushing from outside to tell me curtly that they aren’t open yet. Well, ma’am, if you don’t want customers yet, a «sorry, we’re closed» sign would be useful? Also, maybe don’t put your street sign out when you’re closed? — because that’s usually an indication that you want people to come in, right? To top it off, the hours on their storefront said they should have been open. Could this have been any more confusing?
Also, why the rudeness? How about «Sorry, sir, we’re closed right now, but you can come back in about 10 minutes»? Seriously, would that be so hard? Seems like customer service 101 to me. Maybe this isn’t the right business for you?

I had a couple of really nice dresses that I wanted to ask about selling. The person who was there and hardly acknowledged me made me feel like «what do you want and why are you here». I ended up not even asking about selling (a good black wool dress) anything.
This is no «miscommunication»; she really needs to work on her attitude. Maybe she thinks that it is O.K. because «after all, this IS Davis»

I’ve been there a few times and the lady that is dry as Death Valley is the owner?! I would agree with the other reviews she is awkward. But last time I went in, there was a very friendly young girl that was very engaging and ended up buying a few things. Maybe if the owner didn’t make you feel like are doing a disservice to her, I would go back.

This store is truly underwhelming. It is small and has two floors, but there is not a SINGLE item that wasn’t frumpy, bad quality, or matronly. I was misled by the store name «Haute Again,» which implies style and taste. I don’t think they owner really pays too much attention to quality in the items they accept. Not a good place to go if you’re into style and fashion. I always walk right past this store. Also, when I visited, I wasn’t even sure if it was open because there was not a single person in sight. Is anyone even employed here?

I wasn’t even able to experience this store. I took heed of the review below, but thought I would give them a shot. The store was closed when I got there. The sign with their hours said that they should have been open for another 2 hours. I was only in Davis that day and was very disappointed. I just think a store should be open when it says it is.

I love thrifting and consignment shops so while out on my lunch break, I found this niffy shop and decided to check it out. I went in, it was empty. I said, «hello?» and the owner/​sales lady comes rushing down the stairs and gives me this disgusted look like…“oh…”. Oh, I’m sorry. Did you not want customers? I felt so akward like the store was closed that I had to ask for permission to look around her shop. It was raining hard and it wasn’t the best weather to go shopping in but really? This is how you greet customers? I’m sorry I didn’t get dolled up in my prom dress to go shopping but no need for the unfriendlyness. No smile, nothing. Not even a «if you have any questions, feel free to ask» and everyone who has worked in customer service knows that is the biggest pick-​up line! The whole time I was browsing, I felt so akward.
Shop wise, there were a lot of cute clothes and even if I didn’t buy anything today, it didn’t mean I didn’t like the shop or would not come back in better weather. But after this «warm» greeting, I’m definitely not coming back.

This is a quality boutique with an amazing selection of fashionable clothes, shoes, purses etc. I’ve had a great experience shopping and selling consignment. The transactions are always organized, professional and friendly.
The location is excellent– central Davis right next to Sophia’s Thai restaurant. And the shop itself is beautifully decorated and has multiple levels so… huge selection!
I would recommend this shop to anyone who wants to find great quality clothes while having a fun, funky shopping experience.
